See the problem I ran into was that I tried doing a clean install. The first time started this whole BSOD mess then I tried last night and would not let me activate windows saying that it is an upgrade only key and that a previous version will have to be installed first. I thought this was weird but so far, no issues. We shall see.

No I didn't. I will save those methods as backups for now. I am willing to try anything. So far there have been no issues. I am installing programs now

So after spending most of yesterday evening pleased at my clean install of W8 on our M18x's, I noticed that we didn't have the usual system scheme click sounds in explorer. After many clean installs, I discovered that doing a clean install was some how leaving me with an almost empty Windows Media folder void of most of my system scheme sounds. I knew there was a problem when I stop hearing all the cool W8 Metro sounds. The only way I could get them back was to do a clean W7 install and then upgrade to W8.

So far so good on the upgrade install. I installed all of my programs and have the necessary drivers. Not a glitch yet. Still keeping an eye on her.

Out of curiosity, did you install IDT driver along with X-Fi MB software? - I'm just thinking that for us guys with an R1, there is no Win 8 version that I could see or find....same goes for a few others including USB 3.0 for the R1.

I installed the IDT driver from Dell's site for the R1. It seems to be working fine. I do have some crashing every now and then when trying to play League of Legends. It would freeze in the middle of the game and screen would go blank. I think this may be a GPU driver since I didn't install the latest Windows 8 specific one. It is the same driver from the upgrade. But other then that, it is working.

Never mind, apparently the latest drivers which I have are for Windows 7 and Windows 8. There goes that idea. Maybe I will run League of Legends in Windows 7 compatibility mode.

No problem. I was able to successfully install every Dell driver that showed up on the Windows 8 downloads page for my system except the integrated Intel video driver (didn't find it, but I think I have it disabled in BIOS). The other thing I noticed is that they have two versions of the Bluetooth driver listed on the page. I installed the newer one (Comm_Broadcom_Win8_X04_A01__Setup-39W36_ZPE). Again, I have not run into any issues after doing the clean install *knocks on wood* so I hope others are equally successful.

    Hey guys.

Anyone here experiencing Windows 8 reboots automatically?
I have had windows 8 installed on my M18x R1 for a week, with all latest drivers except the modded BIOS firmware A04. I first thought that because of windows update, but it still reboots even though I have chosen download and update manually.
Sorry If this topic has been discussed somewhere else, don't have time to follow up. Any advice would be really appreciated. :)

My computer likes to freeze in the middle of playing League of Legends and then restart. It is really getting annoying...

@M18xR1 users: Have you tried to install Windows 8 in UEFI mode? If yes, did it work?
