I have been to several computer fix it shops locally and none of them can get me these two simple plastic pieces. They want me to order a completely new keyboard (which by the way im not sure even would come with the two plastic clips. This is the keyboard connection to the motherboard on a alienware 18 (2013 model).
In the photo i circled the two pieces i need. one is the white plastic piece which i circled. The piece holds the keyboard ribbon cable in place on the motherboard. The ribbon slides into the motherboard female connector and the white plastic piece snaps over it so it doesnt disconnect. the second piece also in the photo is a small brown platic connector that you see does the same function as the white one only for the smaller ribbon cable that goes from the keyboard to the motherboard. My guess is the larger cable is for the key function and LED lights and the smaller possibly for the touchpad? I dont know the part number or the names of the pieces which makes ordering them from dell difficult.

I have been searching computer repair shops in hopes they have any older alienware or dell larger sized laptops laying around for spare parts. I would guess parts like that would be used in all the dell and alienware machines for cost effectiveness. Anyone who can help, i'd really appreciate it. Right now im using a usb keyboard which is fine, but im looking to sell and upgrade soon and well a laptop without a working keyboard and touchpad won't be a big seller. lol.

Yeah I’m finding the same issues. My best chance is someone junking an old broken one just to grab parts. Do you even know what the official name of the plastic ribbon secureing pieces are called? Lol

I have to be honest I want to get a new laptop with a 1080 in it but this laptop from 2013 still runs almost every game I want maxed out on its 1080p screen. The two 780m’s I have with the custom firmware and repeated I can run firstrike etc at 1000mhz and I am running the 4930mx at 4ghz by using the bios to overclock which makes it run fast and still remains cool while gaming. I was lucky with the chip lottery for sure.

I downloaded and succefully installed the custom unlocked bios because I have the same machine as the guy here who hacked it but honestly I had no clue what settings to change to I changed it back. I guess I’m stuck with it for now. I wanted to sell it while the 4930mx was still selling for a decent price .

No thank you, i don't need a motherboard , i only need the two plastic clips shown in the photo above. I found a computer shop where he has like 50 old dell and alienware laptops just for spare parts. He told me to bring him the two broken clips and he will find ones to match and give them to me.

No, your not stuck with it - just download the A12 standard Bios and overwrite the modded bios; I did that and it worked fine. Then I tried A13, it was crap, so I overwrote it with A12 (stock) again. There's no 'blocking' of changing/downgrading the bios.

No i meant im stuck using the regular bios for now since i had no clue what to do with the unlocked bios. Thats why i was hoping someone would post a tutorial or post what machine they have and what settings they changed for a stable overclock.

unfortunately the guy was full of sh$t. He wanted $100 to find the piece and install it because he said he has 100's of laptops laying around for parts. I told him go in the back and bring me a alienware or dell laptop, preferably with a full size keybaord just to take shot. He wouldn't he wants me to bring in my laptop, and have me have it taken apart already for him. the keyboard on the 18 is a pain in the ass if i remember don't i have to take the whole thing apart just to get to the keyboard to remove it?

Thats a flat flex connector, vertical entry, count the pin and pitch, and search for one on Mouser and/or Digikey, and order one, expect to pay some 2$ for the connector, then, remove the locking tab(thats what the white part is), and put in yours, or just use your locking tab, the side prongs are there only for the tab to not get lost when you remove the connector, if you insert the flat flex and the locking tab and what that flex is connected to doesn't work, its a problem of said part and not of the connector.

I cut plastic bottles up and made a strip long enough to grab with my fingers in the hdd connector ribbon.Different bottles have thickness variations for a tighter fit. Its been working for about 6 months and its much easier than the stock plugs.
