Ok So I bought a new monitor... The Asus VG248QE 144hrz gaming monitor that has 3D... I go and hook it up and blam 60 hz maxs..
So i Dl the manual and list for nvidia is dual link display only.. you know that white dvi cable thats not missing any pins.. no split in the pins..

And so I call Asus to ask them to help me set up the monitor thinking im doing some thing wrong.. and they tell me that Nvidia doesnt support 120hz or higher and that you can get up to about 85hz using nvidia.. and they claimed that was straight what the manager called the OCing department..

And So I called Nvidia.. to ask about are cards.. and they also tried giving me the run around.. they told me that the monitor has to support it for the cards to do it and I explained it did and they asked me how I had it hooked up and I told them via HDMI.. and they 2 told me that none of there cards support 120hz or higher via hdmi.. and that I had to use dvi dual link cable.. I explained that my Alienware did not have that port.. and asked if an adapter would work and I was shot down yet again..

Im really pissed right right now.. ive had this stupid plan to get the new nvidia light boost 2.0 and a 3d monitor to go with my M18x-r2 and now i cant use it...

    well played sir... well played...

I thought you had to use display port to get 120hz. HDMI won't hack it. 680M has plenty of power.

There should be a setting in the NV control panel to adjust it.

oh yea its there.. ive set it.. buuut its a no go.. hence why i called nvidia direct.. they told me that dvi dual link was it.. said display port and hdmi didnt have the band width to support the refresh speeds..

Yeah that's the case. Its a HDMI limit rather than nVidia false advertising. Max refresh of HDMI is 60hz @ 1080p. You need dual DVI to get 120hz @ 1080p, or 60fps 3D @ 1080p.
I've never been too sure of what the cables look like but had a suspicion our m18x's don't have them.
If that's the case, that's first on my wish list for a r3

We need Displayport 1.2 to do 120Hz plus refresh rates. I am not sure what the 680m / m18x supports. I could not find it in the spec. I suspect 1.1.

HDMI is a TV/Theater std, and at higher resolutions drops down to 24 or at best 30hz. In reviewing the HDMI.org site they are looking for more pixels, not higher refresh rates. learned this the hard way when trying to get 120 Hz, 3D game play on my TV. The HDMI standard is 720p at 30 or 60 hz. to get higher you need the nVidia proprietary display technology on DVI

DVI is the computer standard and as we know supports the higher refresh rates.

If there was a way to maintain my warranty and swap out the 680m's for 7970's I would really consider it. At least I could get eyeInfinity.

I think also AMD support frame packing at 1080p 60fps which is supposedly better than 720p.
Well, if you ever want to change cards you can PM me :D

I was under the impression that our display port could get up to 120hz (v1.2), not really sure tho ... since I could get 2560x1440 out of the miniDP to Dual link dvi active adapter to my dvi-d korean monitor(which require dual link dvi to work) I'd think that 120hz *should* work too with the miniDP. If your monitor doesnt have DisplayPort you'll need the ~$60 miniDP to dvi-d dual link active adapter (not a cheap one).

Yes but the frame packing means Left eye, then right eye. 30 Hz per eye. And I believe they still require DVI to do this. BTW this level of 3D support is identical to nVidia if you do not use the nVidia proprietary display technology.

nVidia supports 3D frame packing at 60 Hz but on DVI only. If you use the display port on the m18x it drops you down to the HDMI std of 720p when using nVidia 3D display even with the $50 software upgrade and a DP to DVI converter.

I tried to get 3D working well on my big screen but it is pretty bad, 720i on a 65" screen at 10 feet away is .. well .. freakin' UGLY.

I was really PO's after spending the cash on the 680m's and the nVidia 3D software upgrade, and distrustful enough not to purchase a nVidia 3D 120 Hz display.

OH wait! @xmadror what active adapter are you using. I would still like to confirm we have DP 1.2 though.

this is the one I have
For only $64.40 each when QTY 50+ purchased - Mini DisplayPort | Thunderbolt + USB to Dual-Link DVI Adapter

But I just read this from the spec :
so I'm not so sure anymore ... I'd still give it a shot tho. Or someone can send me a 120hz display and I'll happily confirm if it works or not I'll just keep the screen for my work :p
I dont know anyone with a 120hz display otherwise I could test it :(
most of my friend got those korean 2560x1440 lcd (60hz) after they have seen mine

Do not waste money on a powered DVI cable.

I HAVE a 144hz Asus monitor hooked up to my m18x right now, i have dual 6990m cards in it and i am running 144hz (120hz+) using a Mini-Display Port to Display Port Cable they are like 7-15 bucks on newegg. Here is a link to my thread and and like i said im running this setup right now so it works 100%.

Yes your 680m WILL run 120+ hz and no you dont need a 100$ DVI adapter you can use a 10 dollar mini-DP to DP cable as shown above :D im using it right now on less powerful cards.

See I been using that nvidia 3dtv play program for my vizio and I run at 240hz thru hdmi so I wonder why its not letting you work correctly. Altho what is weird I just noticed since i bumped from 580m's to 680m's I can no longer control the refresh rate of my monitor and I use it on my desktop just fine and it worked with my 580m on my m17x r2 and when i had the 580m's in my m18x.... hmmm I guess the 680m is only capable to work properly with tv's as of right now.... Now my idea of getting a LG 29" cinemawide computer screen might be out of the picture since I can't control the hz.....

240hz? Are you sure? Lol, anyway there is no doubt in my mind the 680s will run 120hz+, may be a driver issue but just change it on the desktop.

Well I been doing alot of reading and that apparently is the flaw with 680m's and looking at what I use to be able to do and what i can do now is completely different, I still have the ability to do my vizio 55" at 240hz, but my Asus monitor that I use with my desktop wont go higher than 60hz and it is capable of 120hz, and now fiddling with it and using the display port it runs at 120hz..... stupid driver malarkey. there is probably a way to make the hdmi recognize the 120hz for the monitor but idk i'm not going mess with it because with the vizio XVT3D554SV it works via hdmi at 240hz even tho the tv runs 480hz. Plain and simple just use the display port and your good by what i have found.

Ive never heard of any gamer able to get 120hz out of HDMI it just doesnt work, you can read around the net. Your TV is different because they have their own signal booster in them thats why you can pull 120+ hz on your tv and not your monitor.

The mini DP will get you there np :D and its way cheaper, glad you got it working.

Well, as the OP, Brother DumbDumb wants 3d, (as mentioned in the opening post and the reason behind my reply) the ONLY way to get true stereoscopic 120hz 3d IS via an ACTIVE MiniDP to Dual link DVI adapter. Otherwise it's a no-go. I've lost track of the number of posts that I have seen about the same thing on NBR and the only successful resolution (no pun) was the active adapter. As Irakndji mentioned, you will only get 30hz per eye without it.

As for comparing TV refresh rates and monitor refresh rates, that's a stupid thing to do as TV's have their own built in booster - as mentioned before. Just 'cos yout tellie say's it's 600mhz, doesn't mean that is what you are getting. Here, if you don't believe me, check it out and i quote from the following thread: TV Refresh Rate Explained: 60Hz vs. 120Hz, 240Hz, and Beyond | PCMag.com

So, it's not WRONG WRONG WRONG......I'd like to see anyone prove me wrong on the 3d thing. If you can do 120hz 3d via a passive cabling solution, I'm all ears - let's hear about it.....

Didnt mean to upset you i just dont want him spending 100 bucks on an adapter he doesnt need, he didnt specifically state he was going to use 3D, the monitor is 3D capable (i have the same one) but obviously doesnt have to be ran on 3D. Idk if the miniDP to DP cable will support 3d and if it doesnt then your adapter is the only way to go. BUT if he doesnt care about 3D you can buy the 8 dollar cable i linked earlier and save yourself 90 bucks.

I just want to clarify so someone doesn't have to read through all the posts here.

I have an m18x with Dual 6990m i use the display port to get 144hz with the Asus VG248QE. The cable i bought and am using right now is this StarTech Model MDP2DPMM6 - Newegg.com

I do not know if that cable will run 3d at 120+hz but it DOES 100% run 1080p at 144hz i am using it now.

Ah sorry to hear that, yeah desktop level cards have the dual link DVI needed for these monitors but the laptop variants dont YET. Anyway as i stated the mini-DP to DP cable will get you 144hz but i dont think it supports 3d, to get both 3d and 144hz you need the powered adapter linked earlier. Kinda confusing but thats the way it goes atm. GL in the future man.

Hahaha, I wasn't upset at all - I think we both have DumbDumb's best interests at heart, and like you, I was simply trying to ensure all the correct information is available. I havent's seen (or heard) of anyone being able to run full stereoscopic 3d via any other means of cabling, which is why I stressed the fact about needing the active adapter for that purpose. I thought it quite important, seen as how the monitor in question was a 3d panel. It's great that you can achieve 144mhz non-3d with a passive solution as indeed it is a cheaper option and one worth knowing about if you do not want to utilize the monitor's 3d capabilities, so from that perspective, you are spot on.

On the other hand, if you want to use 3d, like I said, the only way that I know of to get it correctly reproduced is via an active converter that I mentioned. I found an old thread that discussed 3d and it's quite interesting - one of the many threads that I looked through and posted on (sometimes in error, too!) about achieving full 120hz 3d via the M18x outs. If anyone wants to read it, its here:

http://forum.notebookreview.com/alienware-m18x/630931-m18x-3d-capable-hdmi-cable-3.html and a nice little article about using DP for 3d too, which states that even 1.2 will only carry a max of 60hz (30hz per eye): DisplayPort 3D - 3D Vision Blog

    Quoted from the above article:

I had a quick look at the monitor's spec's over here: http://uk.asus.com/Display/LCD_Monitors/VG248QE/#specifications - it doesn't say if the DP in is 1.2 but it DOES seem to indicate that 3d would only work via Dual Link DVI. See the I/O subsection, its worded to kind of indicate that dual link is the way to go for 3d - again, a little quote:

Just a shame that DumbDumb's returned the monitor now, we could have done with putting this baby to bed LOLOL - get it back, Bro - test it out! :p

Finally, another interesting read: Be Aware That 3D Vision Does Not Work at 144Hz on 3D Monitors

oh yea i plan on getting another one.. thing is i didnt do my home work and took an advertised product at face value and also made the mistake of thinking tv/monitors were in the same bracket..
When you pick up a monitor and it says asus blah blah led , hdmi 144 hz on the damn box... i espect it to do this.. or how i interpret it to work should i say..

    1. upon pulling it out of the box based on what i read on the box its self.. first and foremost work via hdmi.. 2. do the advertised 144hz via hdmi since this is the main selling point on the box.. no hassles..

and if it wont do this then dont put it on the stinkin box or in the adds for the monitor...

I wish they would have said some thing like this on the box.. and in the adds

asus blah blah led DVI DUAL LINK , 3d 144hz monitor.. then list hdmi in the fine print... why because now i know from reading the box that this monitor needs dvi dual link to work correctly..
hell even say some thing like asus blah blah led, dvi dual link/ Display Port 144hz/120*3d monitor..

now i know that ok 1. its main 2 cable connection probably needed are dual link dvi and display port.. and that it will do 144hz but 120hz for 3d.

Yeah, when i bought this monitor i read online about cables for literally 2 days before i ordered it, no one knew of another way to get 144hz without the dual link DVI, people had said the mini-DP to DP cable would do it but then they would say maybe not on your 6990s or im not sure if it actually works but it SHOULD work blah blah, at the end of the day i just ordered the cable to try it with the intent on returning it and getting the powered adapter if it didnt work, i really REALLY didnt want o spend 100 bucks on an adapter i didnt need lol.

But im a little different case, i didnt want the 3d aspect of it, just the 144hz.

Lesson learned and now you know :p

yea the asus box is very misleading to consumers... the monitor you and i both bought, when you first read the box... in lame i just bought some thing terms...and dont know sqaut (just saying..for the average person)
when you pick that box up it reads in big bold print 144hz...hdmi....3D... nothing about needing special crap to get it working.. which should be illegal.. its basically fraud and tricking a consumer into purchasing some thing under false pretenses..

also correct me if wrong, but in the 2 booklets included in the monitor it did not say any thing about needing dvi dual link or dp to achieve those refresh rate or 3d for that matter..

Hi all. Old thread but I found it useful when I was trying to get 3D working on my laptop, so I wanted to share the configuration I got working. The Alienware M17x was available with a 3D Vision capable display, but I wanted save the extra cash and go with a larger external display for 3D. Here's the setup:

    Alienware M17x R4, Windows 8 64-bit
    GeForce GTX 660M with 320.18 drivers, 3D Vision 2
    ASUS VG248QE

I bought the monitor and tried a HDMI 1.4 cable. I got 60Hz only. Hmm... then read the fine print on the monitor documentation and saw that 120/144hz 3D was only supported on the DVI or DisplayPort inputs.

I began doing research to find out what the specs were on the M17x R4 MiniDP. It seemed that others had used an ACTIVE DisplayPort to Dual Link DVI adapter cable successfully. But that was expensive and I read of someone who used the Apple Active DP to DVI adapter, only to have it quit working under mysterious circumstances (after a NVidia driver update allegedly nerfed it).

The Wiki on DisplayPort was quite informative and I determined that I might be able to use a 1.2 miniDisplayPort to DisplayPort cable. Some had used a DisplayPort cable (of indeterminate spec) to do 120/144Hz 2D but I couldn't find confirmation of 3D. BTW: information on exactly what specification a cable supports was virtually non-existent on most retailer's websites. Additionally, though the miniDP on my M17x was labeled with the Dual-mode DisplayPort logo (two plus signs stacked to the left of the normal DisplayPort logo), it wasn't clear whether it was a 'Type 1' (original Dual-mode DisplayPort spec) or 'Type 2' (the new 1.1 spec) which supports "stereoscopic 3D formats".

I ended up buying an Accell UltraAV® Mini DisplayPort to DisplayPort 1.2 Cable - SKU B143B-007J. Accell was clear about the support spec and it worked beautifully.

There were only two issues: When I first plugged it in, the ASUS VG248QE displayed everything in black and white. I found that I had to bump up the Digital Vibrance in the NVidia Control Panel, it was set to 0% by default which resulted in no color. Second, I was not able to choose a 144Hz refresh rate for 3D, but only because the NVidia drivers do not yet support it (as steviejones133 pointed out above).

Thanks for the information! Hope this saves someone some time and frustration, Cheers!

That's a great write-up, Skulhammer - thanks for posting up your experience and solution, it should help others out a fair bit.

I think that as long as both monitor and pc are both capable of outputting/receiving either HDMI 1.4 or above OR DisplayPort v1.2 or above, technically just the cable should suffice. It would be interesting to hear what specification the HDMI in of your monitor was - I think the HDMI out's on the latest generation Aliens are all 1.4 capable.

Although, from my understanding, HDMI 3D will only be supported at 60hz with all the right ports/cables. Newer HDMI versions might solve that.....

    Thanks Steve!

One additional thing to pass on, though they didn't solve my problem and are waiting to hear back from me, NVidia tech support did pass on a really interesting tidbit: If you go to the "Set Physx Configuration" page of the NVidia Control panel it shows which ports are connected to which GPU. In my case, the integated Intel HD Graphics 4000 had output to two VGA ports, 4(really?) HDMI ports, one DisplayPort, and two ports of a type I do not recognize (one of which connected the integrated graphics to the built in "Laptop Display"). This comes into play when you have a system with the http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nvidia Optimus technology. My Geforce GTX 550m showed one connection: the a DisplayPort.

Each port is distinguishable by a icon that corresponds to the physical connector: VGA a 15-pin connector, HDMI by a long connector with a bevel on both lower corners, and DisplayPort by a long connector with a bevel on the lower-right side. I'm not sure what the fourth connector represents, see the attached image:

    Physx Panel.jpg .

This indicated that my GTX 660m could output directly to the display port. All this time I thought that pictogram was just eye candy. Though based on the diagram, it would appear that the GPU is not able to output to the HDMI port. I doubt that, but have not confirmed it; perhaps it does a pass-through? I'll try it out and post the results. Now it is time for some Portal2, which has the best stereoscopic implementation of any of the games I've tried thus far!

    Skuly out.

Has anyone been able to confirm if the 680m and Aliemware support Displayport 1.2 on the m18x R2? I have searched far and wide for an authoritative statement on the spec without any luck. Notebookcheck says it does, but then they were the folks that said the 680m supported nVidia Surround for a long time (I bought the dual 680m's based on their spec and review), hence I no longer consider them reliable.

I cannot find any specifics on the Dell or nVidia sites. nVidia makes a BIG deal out of supporting Displayport 1.2 on their Quadro and Titan line so I suspect the absence of the claim on the 680m means no.

It would be very useful to get the detailed specification on both the HDMI and Displayport connections and the applicable design standard (displayport 1.1a? is it ++?). It could save a lot of heartache.

EDIT: I finally took my M18X into the sunlight (yup I took the beast outside). I could finally make out the teeny tiny ++Displayport Logo. So one question answered.

It also seems that the adapter requirements may be different depending on the supplier AMD or nVidia. Apparently AMD requires an Active adapter for DP to dual DVI / HDMI conversion if you want to support high bandwidth. (more than 2 monitors in eye Infinity and HD3D. It is still fuzzy on the requirements for nVidia.

I have seen that m18x supports HDMI 1.4. It is unclear if this standard supports nVidia 3D @ 120 hz (as far as I can tell only the ASUS VG278H has the potential to work with it). Normal HDMI 1.4 just supports the maximum TV standard which is 1920X1080@60Hz. (30 FPS per eye) with a preferred state of 1920X1080@24 (24 FPS per eye which is the 3DTV standard)

Good lord this is far more painful than it should be.

    1) I cannot determine if the m18x r2 is HDMI 1.4a or 1.4b, and only 1.4b supports 1080p at 120 hz. I cannot find any confirmation that the m18x supports 1080p@120 Hz.

    2) There are huge numbers of DP to DVI active adapters, the specs are all over the place and the vast majority will not work with nVidia 3D at 120 hz. That being said I found this one UltraAV® DisplayPort or Mini DisplayPort to DVI-D Dual-Link Adapter with 3D Support that is certified to work. NOTE! It is this pixel clock that is the determining factor, so if you look for an alternative supplier look for the (330MHz total Pixel Clock Rate) slower clocks will give dual-DVI but NOT 3D.

I think the HDMI's on all current AW's are only HDMI 1.4 or 1.4a, basically as I've seen loads of folk "trying" to get 120hz over HDMI without any success. That could be down to the monitor "in" also not being 1.4b. Now, given that HDMI v1.4b was only released in October 2011, it's possible that all current Alienware designs will be based on a lesser HDMI out (if Dell did not up the port specification when designing the R2) and therefore will not be capable of transmitting a full 120hz over HDMI regardless of the version of HDMI in on the monitor.

You're right though, it's a minefield trying to find out about port specifications - I spent ages a while back trying to do the same with not much joy. Anyway, as you've probably already realised, the ONLY way to get full 120hz 3D signal from the existing Alienware line-up seems to be via an active Mini-DisplayPort to Dual Link DVI adapter.

I think the fact that asims who posted success using just a DP cable (passive solution, no adapter) was possibly attributable to his monitor's DisplayPort specifications or the cable was a newer cable supporting DP++ Type 2 (see below) - assuming that the DP out of the current Aliens is DP++, the monitor requires the same input support, which his obviously has. If the input of the monitor is not DP++ capable, it's my understanding it won't work as the signal is limited at the monitor end. There's a good bit of info here, even a guy who owns an M15x has been listed in the DisplayPort Official FAQ!

    FAQ | DisplayPort

It's possible to assume that the reason his works without the active solution is that the DP out on the Alien AND the DP in on the monitor are BOTH DP++, which seems to be the requirement for it to work with just a cable......but that cable MUST support DP++ Type 2.

    Quoted from the DisplayPort Wikepedia

Also, it seems that Type 2 DP++ is the only solution that supports the required clock rate of 330mhz. Type 1 DP++ only supports 165mhz. As that technology was only released in January of 2013, it's possible to assume that previously, an active solution was the only way to achieve 120hz 3D.

So, my assumption is that you need either an active solution or a DP cable that is DP++ Type 2 to enable things to work - it seems that DP++ is backwards compatible with Type 1 inputs/outputs, as long as they support DP++ Type 1 as a minimum.

I've been looking into the pin-outs for DP cables, too. Seems there is quite a bit of industry confusion about pin 20 - plenty of discussion on the www that pin 20 should NOT be connected and can cause problems if it is. Another read - http://www.rage3d.com/board/showthread.php?t=33998432 which mentions this point. What it does say is that only Accell is the only manufacturer to certify their cables.

In which case, their passive/cable only solution should work; http://www.accellcables.com/B143B.html - at least it says stereoscopic 3D anyways LOL. Accell are out of stock but Amazon have some: http://www.amazon.com/Accell-B143B-003J-UltraAV-DisplayPort-3-3-Feet/dp/B00A7R9I2M

Confusing? - sure as heck is!! - Of course, I could be wrong.....

    Hi all,
I am posting in the M18x forum, however as indicated in my first post I have the M17x R4. With that caveat firmly in place, I continue:

I connected my M!7x to the ASUS VG248QE using an HDMI High Speed with Ethernet cable. Based on the HDMI Wiki, I know that it has Type A connectors and is Category 2 certified ("High Speed"). It has no HDMI specification, though its capabilities were defined in the 1.4 spec. The Wiki states:

Ok, the cable is just a pipe, of which there are basically two different sizes (Category 1 or 2), and the specification(s) define a palette of features that the devices on either end of the cable may or may not support.

The VG248QE supports 60Hz at 1920x1080 over HDMI and the M17x w/660m pushes that fine. At 1024x768, the VG248QE tops out at a blistering 85Hz. The laptop/GPU/drivers would only allow me to select 75Hz maximum. Here is the "Physx pictogram" for that setup:

    Physx Panel-HDMI.jpg

Note that the HDMI port is connected to the integrated GPU, but not to the Geforce 660m. Despite this, even with the Control Panel 3D Settings set to use the integrated GPU as the "Preferred graphics processor", it was quite clear that the 660m was doing the work when I started Left4Dead2. So either the diagram is of questionable utility or the "Optimus" technology passes the 660m's output through the integrated GPU or whatever mechanism arbitrates switching, probably an imp operating a series of small levers (citation required, but improbable).

For extra credit I connected a Dell P991 CRT to the M17x's VGA port. It can handle 1024x768 at 120Hz and I used it back when GeForce driver version numbers were only 2 digits, to do stereoscopic 3D gaming (Elsa Revelator anyone?) <rant>Moore's Law doesn't apply to stereoscopic tech; the only things that have really improved since NVidia acquired the tech more than 10 years ago is availability of content and the cost/resolution of the display. The test application and medical test image is still the same one we had in the late 90's.</rant> <concede>Prometheus+Bluray+3D(Vision2) is stunning.</concede>

    Physx Panel-RGB.jpg

At first, the maximum refresh rate I could get out of the M17x RGB port was 85Hz both at 1920x1200 and 1024x768. I had to go to the integrated GPU's (Intel HD 4000) control panel to set a custom mode, which put my desktop at 1024x768@120Hz. Unfortunately the NVidia Control Panel did not enable the Stereoscopic 3D settings though I was in what I believe to be a compatible mode. I recently got that monitor doing 3D with an old Alienware Area 51 M7700, a GeForce Go 6800 GT, 1xx.xx drivers, and Revelator shutter glasses; so I know it can handle it.

Maybe I could force the 3D Settings to always appear in the Control Panel? If I could lock the stereoscopic video mode to 1024*768@120Hz it might get 3D moving out the VGA port.

    Cheers!

A little reading goes a long way. I have an R1 with a cheap Mini DP to DP cable with the asus vg248qe monitor and i run 144hz at 1080p i cant imagine the m17x would have any issues. If you are having issues what worked for me is outlined in post #14 of this thread.

    Hope it helps.

I can at the very least confirm 120hz DOES work using a MiniDP->Dual-Link DVI adapter. I have that Apple one.

    EDIT:

Sorry to necro the thread =/

Hi all, i have Aw17 but i use this thread cause i think it's the same. I have gtx 860m with 120Hz TrueLife screen. If i wanna use an external monitor 120Hz capable (such BenQ or Asus), can i do it with a DisplayPort 1.2 cable? I've read also HDMI 1.4b support 120Hz, but i don't know if my Aw17 has it.

If you use the Mini Display Port, that will work. I don't think the HDMI can do it on your model either.

HDMI should be 1.4b.. The thing for me is the fact that does the displayport in the R4/18x R2 after you upgrade to 970M/980M support 4k@60Hz?

    Hello my friends
Well this his being a headache....
I already RMA 2 displays, Nvidia has no solution, neither has Asus , with there magnificent support.
So I'm running out of options, I tried everything, from installing all Nvidia drivers from 340 to the latest, format my laptop, well I try everything in resume...
Now I´m having some doubts on acquiring a DP cable, and i want to know the following
I have a Mini DP to DP cable 1.2 (normal cable, not thunderbolt), and a Asus PG278Q, hooked up to my thunderbolt port in my Asus G750JX notebook.
The thing is that with this cable, the display doesn't show a refresh rate more than 100Hz, i only have 100Hz Max, when the display have 144Hz Max., but i can´t create that option in Nvidia Control Panel, it allows me, but doesn't create it, and i´m stuck at 100Hz.
What i want to know is where do i buy a cable/adapter to plug in the thunderbolt on the notebook, to the DP in the display, and get more refresh rate options like the 144Hz on Nvidia Control Panel, since i have a thunderbolt connection on my notebook, and a displayport in the display.
I need an Urgent answer please, and if you can link me to a place where i can order this to Portugal i appreciated.
    Thank you very much.
    Best regards
