upgradeyourlaptop charges so muchanywhere to get 780m for usd 700?
-
Probably not. The pricing is pretty normal for the new flagship GPU, especially this close to launch. They don't have much incentive to sell it for less because the demand is so high.
-
I am surprised by the concern with the screen resolution. This is a new PLS IPS type screen that is probably was custom manufactured for this laptop in particular because they seem to be listening to their customers these days. I have not seen it yet but I bet it is a huge step up from the past generation. Do you think the laptop would work just fine if 1 graphics card was pulled out? Maybe the machine will run way too hot for some with 780m SLI and somebody would sell one 780m and it would just be plug and play.
-
I know that with crossfire u need to restar the machine to cancel crossfire or work only on the cpu. Is this the same with sli? I must restart my machine to cancel sli or to swithc working on the cpu gpu only?

If you do not intend to do any kind of overclocking whatsoever, then 780M, which is presently only slightly more expensive than 680M, is the logical solution as it is roughly 30% faster. However, if you do intend to overclock, while performance results are still preliminary, they tend to indicate that that 30% baseline shrinks to about 10% at the most.
There are other considerations that early adopters of the new tech have pointed out. 780M throttles performance approaching 92 C, a nice safety feature really. It might be of more robust design and able to withstand greater voltage, of 1.1 V. And the modified vbios by SLV7 allows the ability to adjust voltage on the fly, whereas with 680M to go from say 1.05 V to 1.0 V one would need to re-flash the cards.
With that said, you can find 680M for a bit cheaper, as of right now there is one auction for a single 680M at $499., even if you have to pay full "buy it now" price of $600. for the 2nd card you can have 680M SLI, of comparable performance overlocked, for $1100. instead of $1600.

What would I do? I would go 680M SLI, and put the $500 saved aside for the next generation of Nvidia high performing GPU"s or thereafter.
OR
I would wait about a year or less for the successor to 780M to roll out, this time on new architecture altogether and possibly hopefully, if the recent evolution of these cards is any indication, a 40 of 50% increase in speed over 780M/680M.
I would only be considering the upgrade to 780M if I was at 580M or earlier, and definitely not if I already had 680M as the potential performance difference is negligible.

Id agree that having 680m SLI it would be hard to justify not skipping 780m SLI...for some
It looks like the only way forward here is if the 880m has a much greater TDP efficiency. The performance of the 780m's is there but the limiting factor at the end of the day is the PSU when OCing.
I don't think it's wise to compare bone stock performance. My stock 7970's in CF get 11,500 3D mark 11 points after all. Hence that's neck and neck with the stock figures that we are seeing from early 780 SLI reviews. So I'm saying, stock performance can't tell the whole story.
Also reaching the max TDP via OCing and holding it on the limit isn't something that would be sustained in a extended gaming environment. And of those people that can OC and hit and be limited by max TDP, they are but a few members here anyway.
Most of all, I think it's still a little early to decide since drivers might play a very big role yet. We saw a 15% increase with crappy AMD drivers over the course of 8 months. So I'd expect to see some improvement here too. -

Yep, that would be one of my many finds there.

Good info, brother Fox. For those who want to disable Driver Signature Enforcement in Win 8 permanently follow these steps:
1) Run Windows Command Processor (cmd.exe) as Administrator
2) type bcdedit -set loadoptions DDISABLE_INTEGRITY_CHECKS and hit Enter
3) type bcdedit -set TESTSIGNING ON and hit Enter
4) Reboot
That's it.
Note 1: the double DD in DDISABLE_INTEGRITY_CHECKS is not a typo. You can copy and paste these commands and hit Enter each time and you're done.
Note 2: the process is reversible in case you'll ever need Driver Signature to be enabled again. Just substitute in steps 2 and 3 with these: "ENABLE_INTEGRITY_CHECKS" and "TESTSIGNING OFF." -
Great info there Brothers. Ill have to bookmark it for when that dreaded day comes

Just benched my 780m SLi + 4700MQ in 3D Mark11. Using 320.49 drivers, stock clocks.
It was around 11.2k. Hope with driver updates and tweaking that can go up a lot more. -

Here's one with stock Cpu,Gpu,Voltage, 326.01 driver
-
That should be in the 15.5k range and higher on stock settings.....(gpu only)

What can I say at 770/1250, 13560 Gpu I guess I got 2 crappy cards O King
-
So can we compare it to the gtx titan benches?
I dont know much about benches so be nice to get an understanding of how high does 12k considered -
-
Whtas the bench score of stock gtx titan ?
Something for me to compare -

And since everyone you learned from I thought means that im a pretty good teacher.
Lets not forget your still the same person that got band from here under another name for voicing your...lets say...erratic views on things. -

So let the talks go on. -
I'm going to end this right now; it's pointless to criticize. I'm sorry if I offended you.

I'm good with that

I think that's a good idea lol, let's just work on some basic techniques to get the most out of a system.
Unless you are very confident in your knowledge of the specific hardware you are working with, it's always best to adjust one aspect at a time by small steps and feel out where your limits are. If they come really early you can look into things like clock holes, but that should come later. -
John is about as humble as they come for someone with so much knowledge. Also that knowledge did not come free and its thousands of hours and beyond an insane amount of patience to do what he does. Benchmarking is not for the faint of heart and on his level its something else entirely.
I have known John for years now when we were benchmarking our 8800GTS Gateway FX notebooks togetherso it is astonishing to see how far he has come from those days.
John also is a massive source of knowledge and he shares it freely when you need help which most guys that have his skills will tell you to go jump in a lake or not even reply at all.
People are fortunate to have someone like you around and no matter how many times people have said thanks it cannot be said enough how much some of us appreciate having you here. -

none the less , still none can give me a benchmark compare to a 780m SLI benchmark ?
Edit : ok got it : http://www.guru3d.com/articles_pages/geforce_gtx_titan_review,21.html
this is quite amazing how there is 1k difference between a gtx titan to 780m sli... both in stock ofc... -
But harlon gave you one already

Meaker@Sager Company Representative
Well it is 200W vs 250W at that point.....

just spoke with saintsatan regarding some FPS he got on crysis 3 and metro last light with everything on max except for AA x2 ( meaning AA wasnt maxed out) . on metro last light he got 40-80 FPS and crysis 3 was about 40ish on 1920x1080 . I was expecting for better results on theos games with the 780m sli .
maybe I poisoned my mind all too well that im going to get similar gtx titan performance inside this 5.5 kg laptop...
sigh... -

But what I really wanna know is... can the 780m SLI run Minecraft?

mine craft is a bit different from minesweeper...but if you knew the difference...still .....LOL!
-
so what? what are you trying to tell me?
-
that people actually have problems playing that game...
-
haha well thats interesting too, for something such "unoptimized" run in SLI is first mistake people do, more ever, is the all the " Ultra Max " settings in SLI with motion blur and FXAA8 and so on will do such huge gaming experience running it with 780m/ SLI 780m ?
heavy overclock?
its just a game that I just ... I ...
am speechless , I go solitaire 780m SLI
-
My solitaire is working like a champ!!!
Gonna over clock to see if the cards move faster. haha -
Don't overclock too high or the cards will show artifacts and screen tearing as they move across the screen.
If you have AMD with tessellation disabled, then there will be missing graphic elements, like the king's beard will be gone. -
oh stop lads, what about solitaire highest benchmark scores?
using fraps?
lol
BTW: @ Mr.Fox
Thanks for PM, yea that project of yours is somewhat very interesting
