Alright, so i just got this new 5.1 headset, and it worked great all day. Now, starting about an hour ago, the sound just dropped out. No reason, was listening to music and it just stopped dead. Then i realized that the rear 2 speakers were working.

Upon further screwing with, i noticed if i yank out one of the 2 surround sound ports, the hole thing starts up again! OH SWEET it must be working again! LOL jk, plug it back in and everything goes dead.

This was going on and off for about 2 hours now. I'm finally sick of it, i just spent 200$ on this new setup here, and since they claim nothings wrong with it i cant return it.

Just a while ago, i did actually get a "usb power surge" error, or warning. Cool thing though, it had something to do with the bluetooth, which i'm not using. I was too frustrated (cant ya tell?) and didnt think to screen cap it.

Now, i just yanked out the cords again, and everything stopped... It wont go back to onbard audio.

    UPDATE:

Actually, as i was typing this, and i got a message on skype. I noticed, because it made its skype sound. So i'm like "hey cool! audio must be back!"

LOL JK AGAIN! this thing is making fun of me now. Skype works, Itunes doesnt, speaker test doesnt, WMP doesnt...

Is it messing with me? I dont know whats even going on my more. So frustrated. My initial thought was that IDT must be on crack, which looked like it was the right issue at first. So i uninstalled, and re-installed its driver. It fixed it, for maybe 20 minutes, then it just went down again...

    ANOTHER UPDATE!

Alright. I think my initial presumption, that IDT is ****ing retarded, was correct. For whatever reason, audio played out of EVERY jack, except that jack that gets designated as the "front/center audio". Which, btw, was the one that kept crashing and initially screwed everything up.

I'm thinking the Driver is just stupid, and is thinking theres something plugged in there, that isnt, and the software just freaks out and fails miserably, thus not playing anything out of it, while still trying to play everything through it. Makes sense..

I guess then, is there anything to replace the IDT drivers? Something that, i duno, isnt broken?

A full restart seemed to fix things up, but it did last time too and in 20 minutes it got screwed up again...

For me, I notice skype mucks things up.... ie.... if skype is running, the only audio I get is from skype (can't listen to music or play a movie while skype is running)

I have to quit skype to get my normal audio back.

I blame skype on this one as it only started to happen a few updates ago (and only on my windows system)

By any chance man, do you use iTunes? I noticed it seems to do it most when iTunes is going.

Haven't noticed the 5.1 dropping out on mine while in use. However, I do have to reconfigure it on reboot to be 5.1 as it will default to 2 channel.

As debaucher has said, anything that takes control of the audio driver/device (skype, some IM clients etc) will override pretty much everything else. I've had some luck with the disable exclusive control checkbox in the audio device config (not perfect but it does help).

I do use itunes, but dont have a 5.1 system (I use a pair of Senn wireless 180 headphones).
For me, itunes works fine with audio (after I figured out the issue with the bigfoot 1103 wireless card causing issues)

Well, for a while, i thought it was a combination of iTunes and Skype. Seems it was JUST skype, and i tried flashpoint's suggestion, and turned off exclusive control. Which, btw, seems to thus far have worked. No issues.

Now for some serious testing, so i can write a mini review about my Psyko Carbon's.

    Thanks btw!
