so i have 3 alienware adapters and one of them came with this obnoxiously heavy duty 14 gauge cable - i think the normal 240w ones are 16ga or higher....any reason for this?

The heavier gage wire reduces voltage drop when pulling high current. The heavier gage wire costs more money. They wouldn't do it without good cause.

right, except all my other 240's came with thinner gauge....i think maybe the 14ga is not even alienware and got replaced by someone ..i was just curious because its like wrangling with a python to untangle it

Ah... so they are all 240w. I misunderstood and thought you had a 330w as well.
