    Hi,

I re-pasted my GPU and CPU, but when I put it all back together again my touch pad as well as the Left and Right buttons are completely unresponsive. The LED lights work around the touchpad.

Resorting to using a really cheap USB mouse for now.

I've checked the connections 3 times over now. Maybe I've damaged the cable/connections somewhere along the way?

Right now I'm looking at one of these 3 parts to buy:

    1. Actual touchpad (not sure if compatible with r1)
    2. Cable
    3. Touchpad board (not sure if compatible with r1)

More than welcome to point me to links to parts elsewhere. I've not looked around properly yet. I'm in the UK.
Any thoughts to the above would be greatly appreciated.

    Many thanks.

PS. Can't beleive this R1 from 2011 has lasted me this long, on its last 6990m card still going strong....somehow! :d

I am on the same boat some time now. I lost my buttons. Touch pad is OK. I have checked every connection and even chemicaly cleaned everything. Cable looks OK, but they don't work.

Try using isopropyl alcohol on the connectors and try again.

Things have taken a bizzare turn. Okay the touchpad problem has been resolved unexpectedly. Every time I do a re-paste I always do a clean Windows install around every 2 years. So anyhow did a fresh clean re-install of Windows 10 and PRESTO the touchpad is working again? Which I'm assuming would tell me there was maybe a driver issue?? But was perfect before until I opened it up, seems strange to me. I'm not sure if a complete OS reinstall will work for you as much of a pain that is. Or try a different restore point just before you noticed this problem.

Okay just when one problem is solved another appears. Looks like the HDD latch was on it's last leg and snapped off. This is definitely one of those times where 'if something works, never touch it' moments.
I can see 1 for sale on eBay but for r2 m18x only. Anyone know where I can buy one for R1? Thanks.
Right now I've just about got my HDD running by shoving in a piece of card behind the HDD cable to keep it stable, until I find that plastic latch to buy from somewhere.

Weird. I haven't reinstalled my OS since windows upgraded 'themselfs' to windows 10.
I haven't thought it might be related to driversd since my TouchPad works, and the buttons, don't.

I will try the official dell driver and see if that makes any differenced.

I have some spare HDD latches, but I cannot make sure they fit the R1.

In my case it must have been driver/software related....somehow. Unless I accidentally gave it a good whack without realising, and woke both the touchpad and buttons up somehow. Either way it was strange how it decided to work after a full OS reinstall.
Unless you can pin-point when your buttons stopped working, I'd maybe try a restore point just before that time. But then again I'm just taking a wild guess. If you've carefully re-checked and put everything back together numerous times with no signs of physical damage, I can only point towards a software related issue. I could never use a mouse again with this m18x, it was horrible using it for 1 hour.

Ahh someone has already sent me a number of various sample HDD latches from the States. Thank you kindly for your offer though. If these ones don't work I'll be sure to take you on your offer, as they weren't too sure themselves either if they might fit with the R1.

Hope you sort your touchpad pad buttons out.
    Cheers.
