I got a guy that has the alienware Aurora R2 I believe,, the one that has the straight metal on the top instead of all the fins..
it has the i7-975x cpu water cooled, 6gb ddr3, at least 1.5tb hdd, bd/dvdrw, and Im not sure on the video card.. but he says he has a newer one for it thats better(sorry he was leaving for thanks giving and i was just there to buy a desk lol)
but long story short is that it works.. plays games.. and he wants to swap me that with some Dell ultra sharp monitor (it looks bigger than a 24 inch)
but he wants my ps4.. I dont really play my ps4 since i cant afford the games at the moment.. lol
so what would you do.. would you trade?
and is it possible on the desktops to extend there warranties?
-
-
I wouldn't trade. It's not like that desktop is going to do anything the beast in your signature can't yeah?

Wow a $400 PS4 for a water-cooled Alienware Aurora R2 and Dell monitor that are probably worth 5x as much? Done!
LOL where can I get in touch with this guy? If you won't take it, I'd be more than willing to just buy a PS4 and make the drive up to Sactown to do the swap.DumbDumb and reborn2003 like this. -
Ahh the monitor comes with...
That certainly sweetens the deal.DumbDumb and reborn2003 like this. -

If I'm reading this correctly, PS4 for an Aurora R2 works perfectly, I'd do the trade. His Aurora is valued about $500-800.

thanks for the input.. im not that versed in what the desktops are going for.. so I told the guy im up for it.. we are going to do it sunday.. Ill take some pictures when i get it..
likes all around on me!
So yea.. it looks sweet.. I was going to do the deal any ways for the most part to begin with.. I just needed a couple of thoughts about the desktop..
Also can you extend the warranties on these like the laptops?reborn2003 likes this. -
It's sounding like a sweet deal then, dive in Dumb Dumb.
As far as warranty, did you mean your R2? Yes you can. I extended mine last June for 2 more years.reborn2003 likes this. -
DumbDumb, I'd be jumping on that deal in a heartbeat.
Does it have this type of awesome chassis? I LOVE the way these huge monsters look compared to the newer (smaller and rounder) systems. I wish Alienware would bring them back... best design they ever had.
This is my neighbor's Area-51. He offered to me, but he wants too much. I offered a max of $650 because it needs $1,000+ worth of 780 Ti GPUs (2) to replace the wimpy old AMD parts that are in it right now. It does have almost 2 years of warranty left.
DumbDumb and reborn2003 like this. -
Man, I love the Area 51 w/ ALX chassis too! Wish I could snag one for a reasonable price & maybe i'd go desktop
. DumbDumb's trade is going to be the Aurora R2 without ALX same as the pretty much the same model as what is current the Aurora R4 but still worth it for a ps4.

if i were you, i wouldn't trade... why ? , If I'm not wrong , that desktop is old enough NOT to have PCI x3 slot on its motherboard, meaning it only has PCI x2. so , the main hardware that will improve ur performance after trading for that PC , is a nice GTX 7xx series or AMD.... HOWEVER... all brand new GPU's need PCI x3 or u will only get about 60-70% of what the card can actually do... in other words, You won't get much of a higher increase in performance than what the current PS4 you have can do.... UNLESS , after getting that aura 51 u will buy a new mother board that support PCI x3 technology and then u will need to buy a new CPU to support that mother board and in other words ( after buying a new CPU / better GPU / new motherboard) you just spent load of money.
translating to english :
So even if the guy tells you he upgraded his GPU , most good chances are that the old motherboard inside is bottlenecking performance... very good chance you are trading a PS4 for a much larger sized and heavy PS4, or maybe even less performance...reborn2003 likes this. -
And you're giving way too much credit to the PS4 hardware. The old i7-975X smacks the 8-core Jaguar around silly. Plus being that it's water-cooled, he could easily overclock it past 4.0 GHz. The X58 platform means that the upgrade path to the hexa-core Gulftowns is open. The PS4 GPU, which is slower than a 7970M, isn't all that powerful either compared to desktop GPU's from the last 3 years. Lastly you have to consider that the Dell monitor by itself is probably worth a few Benjamins.reborn2003 and mp5cartman like this. -
this is the one he has.. the one with the metal top instead of all the fins.. it looks beast tbh.. and i can do more with the computer atm than the ps4.. right now im not impressed with the ps4.. maybe thats because i can afford the games.. maybe its because im an alienware addict.. it has the x58 chipset.. and it will compliment my M18x-R2 nicely i think. lol

I have a beast all ready.. this will just add to what i have.. do i want to keep the ps4 yea sure because its brand new..the latest and greatest tech.. but im rather dissapointed in sony atm .. and there choices with the ps4.. and them going commercial with the ps4.. its going to be a pay to play console and i can do it for free on the pc..
also i was referring to the desktops warranty.. lets say its out can i renew it? i havent checked the service tag yet since its thanksgiving and all!
p.s. HAPPY THANKSGIVING EVERY ONE!reborn2003 likes this. -
Yeah, I agree... consoles and console gaming sucks. I'd go for this trade any day of the week.

Ditch the weak console and grab that desktop.

AFAIC consoles are at their best a few years after release, when the games have matured and devs have got a hang of the hardware and no longer have to develop for the previous-gen. But after they've reached the top of the mountain it's all downhill from there and they rapidly get long in the tooth.reborn2003 likes this. -
Consoles seem to offer less and less that appeals to me with every generation. I can't believe so many people are happy to bend over and pay again to play online for a game they've already paid for.

This generation of consoles is very disappointing as far as the power they deliver. PS4's GPU is weaker than a 7970M and the Xbox One is just plain shameful. Both running on a weak AMD APU to make matters worse. Contrast that with Xbox 360 when it was released where it's GPU was faster than anything the desktop had at the time which explains why it was such a leap over anything else on the market and why it lasted so long. The life cycle has remained the same for these new gen consoles but the hardware is below middle tier.

I'd also be grabbing the desktop over the PS4. I think one of the biggest draws - to me, anyway - would be the Ultrasharp monitor he's including. I've owned (and still do) several monitors including the 24" U2410, 27" U2711 and 30" U3011 - they are amazing to game on as the image is stellar.
The monitor on it's own - if it's a 27" or 30" - has gotta be worth between $550 for the U2711 and $950 for the U3011.......and those are used Amazon.com prices.reborn2003, Mr. Fox and Optimistic Prime like this. -
Even with the older specs, this is a fantastic trade, IMHO. Too good to pass up. The money you would blow on overpriced console games would go a long ways toward upgrades, too. Buy 10 console games and you can just about pay for a GTX 780 upgrade.
If I were on a tight budget, not able to afford an expensive high performance computer, and had to use a television for a display, I think I would go with an X51 instead of a new XBOX or PS4. To me, that would be a much better alternative. Any savings on hardware going with a console over a PC would be easily offset by the lower price of PC games and you would have a far more powerful flexible/capable gaming option compared to a console. Everything you already own in Steam and Origin is available for your enjoyment. Plus, with the asinine prices the PS4 and XBOX One are going for on Amazon ($1,000 and up) you could actually build or buy a PC or laptop with better performance and flexibility. So, looking at the big picture, console gaming is really not a more affordable option. The only reason to go with a console would be a matter of personal preference, not price.

so i was thinking I would use this as a dedicated bit coin miner.. has any one tested the new amd cards yet? and yea i know its not worth it but hey.. for a machine thats going to sit on might as well put it to use..

So you've already done the swap? What are the specs of the Alienware and what model is the Dell monitor? Looks pretty sleek.
-
Nice! Yeah, please share the specs with us.
Is that the Aurora ALX chassis with the louvers that open on top or the smooth top panel (can't tell from the photos)?
That was a sweet trade. -
-
theres 2 fins on top and a smoth metal chassis.. as for the monitor.. the guy spoke a little to soon ..it was his wifes and she vetoed that stuff quickly.. so i almost walked on the deal..
but i got 2 htpcs with decent older hardware.. cash 100 bucks.. and a hyundai L90D+ monitor.. so im happy.. sold one of the htpc's for 150 bucks.. and going to keep the other..
so over all im happy.. and the hyundai monitor gets mixed reviews but this thing for what it is is ok.. its not bad at all by any means.. small but good..
ill get more pictures later..
oh and all the htpcs have i7-920's 4-8 gigs of ddr3 and nvidia gpus.. one is the gtx 295 and the other is..wait now i got to look at the other.. -
OK so the Dell monitor was a no-go. The rest of your post was pretty confusing. What are the specs of the Alienware?
-
sorry about the confusion,,
specs on the desktop are..
i7-975x
6gb ddr3
1tb hdd (mixed between a 160 ssd and regular scropio drives.
7.1 sound card
gigabit ethernet.
liquid cooling.. H2c from what i can tell..
cd/dvd/bd rw
ati 5670
crap what else is there..
and the htpc's are i7-920 cpus 4 gigs of ddr3 on one and 8 gigs ddr3 on the other.
gpus are nvidia gtx295s
dvd/cd rw's
wifi cards and 7.1 sound cards.. -
If I'm reading this correctly, that is a Radeon 5670 in the Alienware. The 5670 is a low-end GPU and the GTX 295 is a dual-GPU card which runs circles around it. The 295 belongs in the gaming rig and the 5670 in the HTPC so you should swap them. Too bad you unloaded one of the HTPC's already. It would've been interesting to see some quad-SLI action going on in the Alienware. -
well its not gone yet.. my buddy wants it.. but he is a cheapscape lol.. ill swapp the card with the 5670 then..
-
-
well i haven't talked to him yet..
so off topic question about a trade..
