Can I assume than that the M17x can rock two o these than??
-
theoretically, sure. practically, a probable yes.
-
i would expect yes and would do it nicely as far as cooling(allpowerful
)
-
Only problem trying it a GTX 280M on a M17 is that you will have to find 2 GTX 280M's that is setup to use SLI. The one I purchased does not have a way to hook up 2 of them. I would think that they are available out there somewhere. I hope this helps. God Bless
-
It would be interesting to see if a single GTX 280M will work in a M17
I think it would. God Bless
-
not until SLI 280's come out
-
No that was with stock clocks when I ran the Crysis GPU loop 60 times in a row. I did run DMC4 Performance Test in DX10 mode again with 1440 x 900 and all settings in SUPER HIGH and CQ16X settings and it gave me a grade of 'B'. I hope this helps. God Bless -
have you undervolted yet?
i am curious now if the bios in the m17 will recognize the 280
we can only fit 1 Nvidia card -

I always knew you were a really smart guy JDELUNA Amazing job + rep.
-
Does that 280m gtx come with a heatsink that you bought from the RJTECH?
-
the heatsink won't fit the m15x. you have to use a heatsink for an 8800m-gtx or a 9800m-gt, which you don't have. if you're interested in one, i can sell you one.
-
Yes, I need one.
-
are you planning on doing the GTX 280M upgrad as well?
-
How would you like to work this out, ebay?
-
yes., I just bout it from the website
-
does the latest driver from nvidia work on it 185.81 or 185.51?
-
185.85 is the first Nvidia release to natively support the 200M series.
-
ok cool. In your screenshot one of two had pretty high temps on the video card and the other was pretty cool I think around 46f. Was the high temp a result of OCing the card?

My project is to get to GTX 280M on Alienware M17 and Alienware M15x.
-
I ordered mines this morning, now I'm so excited. I cant wait for it to arrive. I just hope it lives up to the exspectations.
-
the 280 was running hot even at stock clocks
-
For those people that are curious, I just added the temperatures after the M15X laptop / notebook has been sitting for about 30 minutes after first bootup. God Bless
-
thanks
your helping alot of people
-
JDLUNEA,
Where did you post the info of the temps? -
Look at my first post I added them there. I hope that helps. God Bless -
hey JD, can you do attachments in place of inline shots?
-
Im planning on upgrading to the 260m gtx. Right now I have the 8600 gt, so I will need the 260m card and a heatsink for the 8800m-gtx or 9800m-gt GPU, am I correct?
-

Bad news if you have alienware M15x with the 8600 you might need a new Motherboard. But it depends on the Motherboard.
-
-
i don't think you do.
-
I'll try to mail alienware.. Thanks for your concern atolsammeek
-
Fast answer from Alienware. There should be no difference with the motherboards.
-
That is excellent to know. You may need to upgrade your BIOS. Hope this helpss. God Bless -
-
I just got my tracking number for the 280m GTX, it should be here on Friday...
-
whooo
i would like to see results!!! -
-
Actually I have not used a laptop cooler yet. I plan on purchasing one, but do not know what would be the best one for the M15X. Any suggestions ??? God Bless -
i use a zalman nc2000
i think whizzo does as well, but he also has tested other brands. -

I believe the 8700M GT has a different and smaller heatsink from the 8800M GTX. I hope this helps. God Bless -
quite so. the 8700m-gt does not have the same heatsink as the 9800m-gt. much less copper, and thinner too. you will need the bigger heatsink if you want to run a GTX 280M within frying your laptop.
-
Oops, I quoted the wrong person. It's shoot2kill who I was trying to warn, because his sig says he has an 8700M GT, with a GTX 280M presumably on the way.
-
which is why i sold him a heatsink for the 8800m-gtx i had in spare.
-
Aha, that's good to know.
