    Yep... I confirmed that as the default behavior. I remember I described the boot behavior in some thread just that could not find it.

    Greetings, I've been lurking around here for a year, finally decided to register and ask for some help.

    I have a Predator2 style Area-51 7500 Desktop with the custom AlienFX lighting. I originally purchased it from Alienware with XP Mediacenter Edition 2005 in October of 2007. I've since upgraded to Vista Ult 64 and most recently Win7 Ult. 64, and as many others, I'm having trouble getting it to work.

    I'd like to get the full functionality of the Alienware application working again.

    What currently works:
    findvikas' AuraraFX lights and TurnOfflights programs work just fine.

    What doesn't work:
    AlienFX 1.5 (downloaded from my hive)
    Command Center v. 1033 (Vista x64) <-downloaded off of link from these forums

    Depending on which of the 2 above programs I try to use, I get different problems:

    With AlienFX 1.5:
    AlienwareAlienFXController tool-tip error @can't communicate with the device
    AlienwareAlienFXEditor frequently brings up an exception error with JIT troublshooting.

    With Command Center v. 1033 (Vista x64):
    Near the end of the installation process, give the following error:
    Command Center - InstallShield Wizard
    The program did not install successfully. This software can only be installed in an Alienware computer.

    Some of the things I have tried already:
    Regedit:
    -Changing BaseBoardManufacturer to Alienware and EVGA
    -Adding the Predator2 model:
    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Alienware\Alienware AlienFX]
    "Model"="Predator2"

    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Alienware\Alienware AlienFX]
    "Model"="Predator2"

    So far, Alienware's technical support response continues to be "sorry, the original configuration you purchased didn't have a 64-bit operating system, so we can't give you the software to download or help you with it, even if you buy a 64 bit upgrade from us". It's still under warranty tho.

    So, yeah, the lights work fine, and I can control them with findvikas' utility just fine, and if I boot into my original XP I can use the control software, so I don't think it's a hardware problem.

    What I believe I'm looking for is finding the correct application/driver to use and proper order of installation/registry tweeks/moving DLL's around.

    p.s. I've been keeping up-to-date with all the .NET releases from Microsoft

    Thanks!

    I got a problem with the "alienware" light on my m15x after I reinstall the os (vista32bit) and install the new command center. I have installed the net. 3.5 and OSD before I installed the new cc. After the installation finished, the " alienware" light went out and never turn back on. I have used the downgrading firmware guide from this forum, but it didn't get the light back on. You guys have any solutions to fix it? Please have!

    Vindikvas, I have an Alienware m15x with windows 7 home premium. I updated my ACC to the newest version there seems to be some unstable flashings in my keyboard. Then I decided to downgrade my alienware command center to the version included in the CD and then none of my lighting in my m15x laptop works. Do you have a solution for this?

    P.S. I can't download you "Command Center Patch Here"

    Hello Davabled,

    My situation is similar. I purchased my Alienware system in late 2003 and updated my case to a Black P2 with AlienFX (Active) in 2006. I also updated my motherboard myself that year. I have been getting updates from Alienware and every thing has worked fine until I just upgraded to Windows 7 64 bit and the old AlienFX software did not work. I bought the 64-bit Command Center upgrade from Alienware and the install seemed to go well until the very end when it told me that the software would only install on an Alienware computer. So I have a computer with no lighting. Is there something in the registry that can be changed that will allow the software to install? I have found this area in the registry:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\HARDWARE\DESCRIPTION\System\BIOS
    that seem to describe my current system. Is it possible the softare is looking here to determine if it will install? Can someone with an Alienware desktop system please send me or post this registry branch from their computer so I can see the differences? I know no one who owns an Alienware computer that I can compare with.

    Any help will be greatly apreciated,
    Greg Hayes
