I was only one step away from doing the same but I couldn't cut a whole into the original part

Can I get this as a replacement?

Flat black paint would have worked better, or even leaving it alumn color. But the idea is great. I'll under take something like this soon. I have 2 new bottom cover plates coming. So I wont have to worry about voiding warranty or not being able to go back to stock with having spares. :)

    Good job!

Confirmed Master-Master Crossfire works like a CHAMP! But be VERY careful about the recomendation of turning a 4850 slave into a master. These are NOT like the 3870's, the 4850 masters have an additional power tab. IF you use a slave in the master slot, thats going to stress the power requirements that the card needs (as a master) and will certainly either damage the card or the mother board. This comes from my experience with the 4850s, and that the master is always a few degree's hotter, and that certainly means its also drawing more power to get that much hoter.

Bad idea to flash a 4850 slave as a master. PERFECTLY fine to flash a MASTER as a Slave.... but really is no need to, because MASTER-MASTER crossfire configuration works like a champ!

Hey Viper guess you figured out how to remove the power tab from the master 4850 and put it into the slave slot?

don't flash then at all flashing master to slave will result in a non booting system as the system need a master to boot

flashing slave to master will result in driver issue in cfx mode

also the non working media button issue has been solved .... i was Kaspersky anti-virus that was interfering with the registry acces

Maybe you could try some racemesh instead? There is good racemesh available with nearly the same pattern.
This was also my first pick, then by accident i found this aluminum plate.

granyte, people who flash a master to a slave, are people who have TWO masters. So there is nothing wrong with this, as you will still boot up on the remaining master. But like i said, there is absolutely no point in flashing a master to a slave, because even in crossfire, two masters work perfrectly.

it is ALOT easier to sell 2 master cards seperately where a slave can only work in a CF setup

Providing your 4850s keep working theres not a huge point in upgrading unless you need a faster CPU.

With a high end CPU the 4850s are about 5% off the GTX280s. Its a damned good laptop, just a shame about the temps, the coolings not really where it could do with being!
If mine hadn't died I'd definately still be using it.

you dont need the RGBLED if you can throw in a TLA2

    Hi guys,

Does anyone know whether I have to mod Catalyst 10.3?

Ive just tried to install it without the mod but the driver or CCC did not update properly.......I thought 10.3 did not need modding?
    Thanks in advance.

what I have at the moment is the oldest Dell 4870 driver (is the only one that would load....) and then I did have disk over it forcing 10.3. Seems to be working now but not at all an acceptable solution in my eyes

Wierd, almost like some components are getting removed the other set of drivers doesnt like, perhaps because components have changed slightly between revisions. Sounds similar to the issues a lot of people used to run into caused by drivercleaner removing too much and causing problems for other drivers to identify the cards properly.

Same shape but different mounting points so it will not work, sorry

It is doable, would not call it easy as it is rather inconvenient - have to take apart dam near the whole laptop

Yeah keep us informed on this thread Scook if you manage to get 10.3 working.
Im not sure driver sweeper did the damage because I had problems before using driver sweeper......I used driver sweeper to try and fix the issue(clean driver install) but to no avail.
    Thanks....

if you think its worth me starting a new thread then I will do so.

    I discover a solution for 10.3 driver.

Uninstall the old driver from add/remove programs. Uninstall completely.

Restart your machine then go to Device Manager and right click on the graphic device and hit uninstall for both device(for dual ATI card).

Restart your machine your windows might ask you to install drivers for your graphic card. Go ahead and install the default Windows drivers for ATI. If Windows did not ask you to do that, you can install it by yourself. "the driver name should end with (WDM .... )"

At last, restart your machine and install the 10.3 Driver from ATI.

Also, download the driver from ati.com and choose mobility drivers.
"NOT" from this website http://game.amd.com/us-en/drivers_catalyst.aspx" this only for desktop.

This works for me and I hope it works for you.

I own an ocz whitebook/m17 laptop and I checked the inf file for the ati 10.3 drivers and all the mobility cards are included in there so there shouldn't be any problems as long as the correct file is downloaded (i.e. 10-3_mobility_vista_win7_64_dd_ccc.exe)

p.s. I was checking the ASI Mobile website (the guys that release the ocz whitebook nowdays) and the have an official .29 bios. I tried to contact them about a download but they say that you need to have a customer number from them in order to get it. Anyone around here has one or knows someone that can get it?

    p.s.2 http://rapidshare.com/files/369103042/10-3_mobility_vista_win7_64_dd_ccc.exe (64-bit drivers)

if you need a .29 BIOS, I would use the one zFactor tweaked up

I did finally get 10.3 to load on my M17x but did it by just reverting back to an older image of the disk as I am pretty sure driver sweeper hosed some registry I needed irreparably

Hey shinj......Ive just received tha cards an hour ago.....I will never use Parcel force as long as I live. I was supposed to get it 3 days ago after paying a £40 customs charge!
They said they had "computer problems"
anyhow they are here now and I will be installing them tonight after work.
I will also be trying nodeffects 10.3 installation guide.....Im sure Ive updated the driver but CCC is showing as 9.7. Im sure I read the reason for this on the AMD site forum but cant remember.
    Thanks,

cant wait to have some fun with my 4850s tonight!
