    Yeah,
I've already got mine for my M9750. Only problem is I have to wait till the 4870's come out before I take the "old" 3870's out of my M17!

i wish i could use just one 4870 in my notebook!

i feel if manufacturers stay on these current MXM platforms, then modern notebooks should be in luck for a while!

Can you imagine the day when we'll be able to go to Newegg and have many cards to choose from and from many manufacturers. Sweet!!

Anyone heard anything more from AW as to whether they are any further towards "Approving" these cards for the M9750?
With the number of faulty 7950GTX's out there this could be the perfect replacement card for them :)

Hmmmm im a little confused.....so you can only get 1 3870 in? So crossfire doesnt work? If thats the case why bother? Ive got my 8700 Sli set up giving me like 8100 3dMarks in 3dMark06....

A single 3870 wouldnt do much better would it?

Hi thanks so the 3870 will work with crossfire? Im the first page he said:

"I couldn't test Crossfire because the M9750's heatsink physically blocked the cable/bridge connector on the card. This will be shown in the pictures I have taken, which will be uploaded soon."

And are your 3870 marks with just a single card? Will this be simirlar for the M9750?

Thanks for all the help, i just want to clarify if im going to shell out on two 3870s.

yes it was with a single card. you will have around the same depending on the cpu you have. and I am not sure about the crossfire cable. we have to wait for ichime to verify or pm him and tell us what he says.

Ichime, GREAT work but have a few questions on the procedure:

Did the 3870s slot in exactly the same as the Nvidia cards?

Will the SLi cable I have work for Xfire or will I have to get a specific X-fire cable and if so does it go into the same input as the SLi cable did?

Did you test actual game performance or just Bench them?

the SLI cable most definitely will not work for Crossfire - at least, I would be mighty surprised if it did.

I don't have a screw driver with me but ome one can take off the crossfire cable and take a picture of it and the board and you can do the same and a picture of your board and post them to see if they look alike.

if you buy two from someone in the forums , you can ask them to provide the crossfire cable. there is also reseller on the forum that I am sure can get you it.

well the cpu is different because of the fsb lift and many more features added on it even though they still fit the same way. and a chipset limitation.

I have a feeling my bios is simply too old but i am up for trying anything while I have the card. It seems as if a 512mb ati card simply won't work with an alienware m5xxx

You need to look for MOBILITY cards. Unlike those desktop cards they are not simply sold in shops. Some places will say it's a Mobility Radeon 3870 X2, others will say two Mobility Radeon 3870 cards, they are the same thing basically.

The Mobility Hd3870's are next to impossible to obtain right now other than eBay/Alienware directly. Chances are though, Alienware direct wont sell you one.

I buy two hd 3870 masters and am trying to do install one for m9750.

Safe mode displays windows and usable, but normal mode is blackscreen after windows xp loading bar. What do I do now? I run windows xp sp3.

I only have one master attach to m9750 in center slot, how also do I flash master 3870 to slave? I read about it but cannot find.

Your probably going to have to run your xp disk and use the repair option, some major hardware changes don't sit well with windows. Google an "ATI flash" or something of that nature, maybe Ichime will be nice enough to send/link you the slave bios you need.

Install your old nVidia card, boot up into windows then download driver sweeper. Uninstall the nVidia drivers from Control Panel and then restart into safe mode (Tap F8 just before loading screen comes up to get the option). Run Driversweeper from safe mode checking all the nvidia options then analyse and clean them. Shut Down, reinstall the ATI card and then start up the machine XP should load correctly then. Please note even if you do flash the other master card as a slave you still need the crossfire cable as the master card drives the slave card through it and it will not work otherwise. You will also need the Vista BIOS as the XP BIOS does not support these cards in crossfire for some reason.

Are you trying to use the crossfire cable?. Someone correct me if Im wrong but the slave and master cards are different physically and have different crossfire connectors and the crossfire is designed to fit a master and a slave :( .
