Off the top of my head:
Core™ 2 Quad Q9000 2.0GHz
CrossFireX™ 512 MB ATI Mobility Radeon HD 3870 X2
4GB Dual Channel DDR3 at 1067MHz
1 X 500 GB 7200 RPM HDD
BIOS = B14 I believe

do you have the intel 5300
-
Yes I do and I must say it's been the biggest pain in the rear trying to get any Linux distro working with it -_-
-
linux is a pain to run on the m17 period
well you should try to update the intel drivers to the lastes version availible on the intel web site also google dpc latency checker and hwmonitor and gives us some screen
these software can tell us where the issue is from -
Actually Ubuntu 8.04 was able to compile the intel drive ^_^ Now to just get the ATI drivers working :l
OT: Last night I updated the intel wireless driver and was able to game without any stutter issues. I turned on AA and maxed the detail rendering and got stutters and fps drops after about 2 hours.

After 2 hours gaming without AA:

After about 4 hours of usage last night, the laptop became incredibly hot so I turned it off and pulled the battery to let it cool off. It was so hot that it wouldn't even POST test and got stuck at the BIOS. I had to wait till it completely cooled down before I could reboot. To me, this isn't acceptable and it irks that these heat issues can negatively impact my nearly $3k laptop.

Thanks for the help! -
heat issue ????? your laptop is runing at a 60 deg all across the board after 2 hours that's preatty much incredible the m17 is almost never having heat issue mine can run crysis all day long and it stay inside reasonable if you really have heat issue try repasting the cpu/gpu verify your fans are working and not obstructed by dust
i think your are one of the lucky one like me and EvilCorsaiR your system stutering does not comes from defect on the motherboard/cpu most of the stutering you had seemed to be from intel's crappy 5300 driver and the limit of the system what games where you playing maybe it was just to heavy on the laptop the 3870 are 3 generation old card but for the laptop to overheat something seem to have failed -
anyone have a spare cpu fan for me? I cant find it anywhere. Laptop is currently dead, help me resurrect it please
