nope the fan is to big needs to be less then 6mm

i wonder if you cut the cpu heat sink in half then put that over the north bridge

like make it into 2 seperate heat sinks ....

    forgive the crudeness

it will fit if you cut the heat sink but i am unsure how hot the NB run and how much heat it puts out

i posted the mini heat sink a page back :p

hummm i kinda think that heat sink will work ... the CPU is heating up the NB because its attached .. just not sure the mini heat sink will work fully

the NB would then blow hot air every where .....

that mini heat sink WILL fit where the Xfire controller is because my 50 x 50 x10 will fit

well that is why we would make more holes for the NB. but the problem is cutting it and the liquid that is in the heatsink.

i actually wanted to cut off the gpu metal for the memory sinks and place ram sinks there but i want an extra one just in case that fails.

hummmm possible that would work better since the core of the GPU is whats heat up the most .....

but with all that passive heat in there it would get hot. If you put all those passive coolers then ran a notebook cooler you would be bawlin

please someone clarifies me. It's REALLY an heat issue that causes shuttering???? is it confirmed? if we cool that region the shuttering is going to disappear? have anyone tried a stress test with a open notebook and a 120mm fan blowing to that region to see if the shuttering disappears?

well but how pads and paste are going to resolve the shuttering issue? it doesn't give great improvements in temperatures... maybe the original pads were crappy and badly applied? I can't believe that only -5ºC difference solved the shuttering issue... it must be something more then that...

read through every thing Z and see what you think

what do you think about the small heat sink ?

cut the CPU heat sink and seperate the NB and CPU

you can NOT cut the heatpipes though placing anything on top of the pipes imo will not do anything. the issue is the nb soaking up the cpu heat

and here is the way i modded my bottom panel sorry for the crude pics.. i dont have a camera right now

So the picture Im getting from this is that the northbridge isn't receiving proper cooling because the CPU is heating the coolant in the pipes too rapidly and sending it back up to the fans. If the machine is running hot enough the NB would essentially be on passive cooling.

If that's the case then I'd think about adding surface area to the CPU and upper pipes so that coolant gasses are getting cooled faster than the CPU can boil them.

i know there is a liquid in there when you did cut you would have to seal it

and putting a fan on the cooler would work my 50 x 50 x 10 fan droped temps by 10 c

    Hi all,
Thanks for the great work, I'v followed the whole quad issues thread and this one also. I have an M17 9300,and I too get the stutters sometimes, although not too much, when I do get it I unplug the power cable and put it back in which clears it up for that session as was mentioned in the quad thread.

Why would that work as a temp fix if the lasting solution is to copper mod or maybe even just reapply better paste? I ask because I'm not too sure about my ability to do this without damaging the system  , also any chance of AW doing something about this now you may have the cause and solution?

Thanks for reading my 1st post!

congratz and welcome to the forums ... and Arima / Flextronics will be working on this

also Guys is it just me or is the fan in the CPU heat sink HALF of the one in the GPU .... i mean it does not put out alot of air at all ....

im sure you can see where i am going with this :D

welcome to the forums i love people who put thoughtful in their first post. ok this is the thing we are coming up with ways to make our computer much cooler. thus the name project freeze was created. we are making mods not only that will cool your system but mods that will be on different levels. and you decide what is best. some mods can be as easy as sticking some more copper to the gpu hinksink and some will be as challenging as water cooling your system and still keep it portable.

remember to do at your own risk. some of mods can be easily removed and put back to send your system back for repair and some mods be noticeable. so feel free to ask and type your input in any and everything.

    welcome to nbr.

very interesting. but even if it were to fit. the gpu's will suffer the worse. i posted eariler if we can find fans that will fit at hhigher speeds and use the same or less volts, but it was never truly searched out. we can posibilly try this for testing purposes but also it is not a pernament fix if it works. i am at work right now so i don't have my notebook with me. can you post or take a picture of the two fans and we can go from there.

we need to see if Z can get them i can't mod until Z gets back to me about the bottom :p freakin AW

cutting vents for CPU and possibly mount a mini fan ... my CPU doesn't need cooling though ..... the vents will be dont for sure gotta figure out the fan part on my own ... and the passive coolers as well :p and copper mod

    so here the Moo's list

    CPU vent
    mini fan
    copper mod
    passive heat sinks
    ram sinks

sucks but my wife lost my brand new camer at bush gardens last week so i am camera less right now. i did 2 2" holes one for each fan and centered them under each fan. you probably could go smaller but that was the hole saw with fine teeth i has sitting here at the time id say even 1 1/4 to 1 1/2 would be fine also.. as long as the hole is the size of the actual opening in the fan itself you should be fine

what do you think about the axman's job on the gpu's? i think if a cooler where to put there it will provide better results. but otherwise what do you think.
