No prob jelly, isn't there a way that when you plug in the monitor you go to the Nvidia setting and change the resolution on the second monitor (can't try this I'm at work). If you can you need to change the res on the 2nd monitor to 1280x720

    im pretty angry today:

    Dear ____

    Thank you for contacting Alienware.

Your system was received at our Service Center on 3/19/2008. It is currently in the Diagnosis Phase of the repair process. During this period, we evaluate the condition of the system in order to determine which steps to take in order to fix your system and we check for other minor problems.

The normal Depot turn around time frame is approximately 15-20 days. Please be aware that this time frame is subject to change depending on stock availability of replacement parts. If any issues were to come up, we would be sure to notify you.

I can assure you that we are putting forth our best effort to see that your system is fully functional and shipped back out to you as promptly as possible. Your patience and understanding are deeply appreciated.

If you need further information, please do not hesitate to contact us.

    Best regards

Haha. I wouldn't have thought that TigerDirect has the entire manual online. You want to follow the instructions on page 28, where they go through the "Screen Setup for PC mode". Looks like they want you to hook it up via HDMI1/DVI-PC, not HDMI2-DTV, though.

ok I am in nvidia control pannel/display/change flat panel scaling. it says select the display you would like to change. I have the "LG TV" selected. At the bottom it does not give me the option to change scaling on the TV ( all the options are grayed) It says "Native resolution: 1920 by 1080 Current resolution 1920 by 1080" the current res is a link. When I click it, it brings me to display/change resolution. On this screen, (with the LG selected) nall options are grayed. Nothing can be changed.

Now I found the manual on cd for my tv. I dusted it off and put it in and it says "To get the the best picture quality, adjust the PC
graphics card to 1360x768" It also says, "If the video doesn’t fit the screen, try pressing the ADJUST button to adjust the screen position of TV." Except there is no adjust button on the remote or in any of the menus.

Ok, I CAN change the resolution on the tv, BUT only if I have it changed to "TV only" mode. if I have it on "clone mode" where the laptop screen & the tv show the same thing, then I can't touch the tv's display. That is kind of dumb, but now I know that I am actually able to change the TV's res. Do I really need to lower the resolution that much??? that sucks I have to turn it down to 1360 by 768

I got a second opinion and he says there is no difference when watching a bluray movie between 1920x1080 and 1360x768. Using the latter resolution allows me to see the entire screen, so I'll stay with it. When I unplug the hdmi cable, the audio returns to my m15x and the resolution goes back to normal as well. Ok, well that satisfies me. Thank you all for your time and help. I truly appreciate it.

I was in phase 2 for 48 hours or so, now I'm in phase 4. 48 hours in phase 2 seems normal to me, they're verifying identity and stuff I guess and making sure the charges will go though.

If it's only making noises with certain CDs/DVDs, it's likely caused by cheap CDs/DVDs whose weight isn't evenly distributed across the medium.

Operation Flashpoint GOTY, cd1 works fine (no sound, perfect), cd2 is making loud noise (like an old drill), cd3 works fine (no sound, perfect). Strange ? oO
    (=> tested 3 times)

A quickly burned files cheap CD : no sound.
    An audio CD : drill.
Another audio CD : no sound.
A cheap burned DVD : no sound.
    Dell driver CD : drill.
    A game (Black&White) CD : no sound.

Maybe it's CDs with protection software or firm software, maybe...

Its normal that notebook DVD readers is much lauder than in desktop. you can use NeroDiscSpeed or other tools to set the speed down for reading. Maybee some problem with the disc ?

This "test" tells you nothing, since you have no way to differentiate a poorly manufactured CD/DVD from a properly manufactured CD/DVD.

    My m15x plays COD4 on Full 1920x1200 and I get a steady 60 FPS.

I installed the v30 BIOS, and my fan does kick on louder, although it is still not as loud as the Sager 5793 was by any means. I never had the down clocking issue, and I still don't.

    I love this laptop!

LOVE the hat. the docs were good, though i didn't read through a lot of them... and so far everything looks keen.

I'll be posting pictures before long (maybe a few days).

Agreed, the m15x is most definitely not as loud as the Sager NP5793. If you're wearing headphones I suppose it doesn't matter either way.
Congratulations! Keep us updated please. Make sure you have the latest BIOS installed so you don't get downclocking issues.

Anyone else getting this error, "Error HRESULT E_FAIL has been returned from a call to a COM component." when modifiing the AlienFX in advance mode trying to add an application?

Better question... has anyone been able to add advance effects that are triggered by "New Email" or additional programs?

The effects work in the "default" mode just fine, and I am unable to locate anything in the threads that shows that others are unable to make this work. Maybe no one else has tried??

Other than that, I love this laptop... I have experianced a few keyboard problems, but then again I am not a good typist. :( and the USB ports don't always seem to be working correctly. Sometimes things plugged in are not being read by the system. I'm still looking into this problem as well.

All said & done, still happy with my m15x... let's hope it stays that way... :D

LOL!! I love the cap more than I thought I would!! Too bad I don't normally wear a hat... :p

Noone has really tinkered with it too much, there's been a video out demonstrating a lighting change when WMP opens (from blue, to flashing green i believe)... beyond that, no other demos have been made. personally, i'd like to know how to add more under the notifications.. moreso than just "new mail!" but i have no idea how... yet.

I think you need to email AW and they will send it to you. Aside from individual request, I don't believe it's currently available for download anywhere. Also, if you ordered your system within the last week or so, it should come with the newest BIOS from the factory.

I have had no problem getting the advanced to work. If you look at the video I made a while back if you look every thing is blue until I open media player then all the colors change.

I'm not certain. I'd rather have it, but I'm not about to split hairs...

I'd just rather have my GPU run cooler regardless... I'd be afraid the high-heats would cause the GPU's lifespan to significantly shorten :S

My build has finally moved out of Phase 6 and is now in Phase 8. As an FYI, it includes the X9000 processor, the 8800M GTX video card, and the 1440x900 LCD. I ordered it on February 17th.

Hope this information is useful to others. :)

When you go to alienware's website, under support there should be something that says "my hive" or something to that effect. Here you will be able to type in your order number and zip code and stuff and it will give you a list of all the parts included in your system, and when you click on a part they will give you all drivers/downloads pertaining to that part. there is a download under the graphics card entitled "System BIOS X30." I think this is the update everyone is talking about. (not sure though)

It won't even let me add an application. When I click on the "+" to add an app, the browser doesn't even open. I just get the error. I even sat though the tutorial (boring  ) to make sure I was doing it right. I think I might have a software bug somewhere...

Do you honestly expect them to know what's going on with your order? It's not like you're purchasing an expensive item from them.

Want more proof that the right hand doesn't know what the left hand's doing? On 3/20, I wrote in an e-mail to their Feedback department:

As I understand it, my system is now being delayed as Alienware
troubleshoots the overheating issue with the 8800M GTX video card. I've been following Frank Azor's (Product Group VP) posts on NotebookReview.com's forums in which he states all m15x shipments have been suspended until a solution can be found, which he expects to be next week. Therefore, it is likely that I will not see my unit until the first week in April, approximately 1.5 months since I ordered it.

    Their reply?

In regard to your order, please rest assured that Mr. Frank Azor's comments do not affect the status of your order.

    Wow. Just...wow.
