hey dhoang417, can you specify where on the intel website you downloaded these drivers... the automatic driver update couldn't find anything... which chipset drivers should i be installing for the m15x?

For the chipset drivers, you will need to use the "INF Update Utility - Primarily for 5,4,3, 900 chipsets." LINK

I haven't tested my microphones yet. I'll need some time.

    thanks.. just one more question,

when I try to download the "Latest Intel Integrated Graphics Driver" i get an error message that my computer does not meet the minimum specs to install this.

I have gotten this error message on vista before as well.

You think Alienware forgot to install my integrated graphics hardware? (Is that even a thing?)

You are most likely not in internal graphics mode, but external (Nvidia GPU). Press Fn+F7 to switch to internal graphics mode then you can install it. Also verify that you are installing 64 bit drivers. The integrated graphics is soldered on the chipset. So, if Alienware did forget then it would mean that your chipset isn't installed either...

Uninstall the aurora software as well as the OSD and Command Center. Make sure you are using the newest BIOS x36 and installed the right command center that I posted in my first post.

Binary GFX works for me Packer. :)

If you press Fn+F7 the OSD should show up.
Or right-click on your desktop and see if there is the Nvidia control panel.

First, make sure that you disable UAC in Windows 7. This stops many programs from working as they should be working.

    1. OSD
    2. Command Center (Please make sure it's the one that I linked to in the very first post!)
    3. Aurora Lights FX

    It should work.

It should not matter since the ripley and the skullcap both have the same lighting systems. Only the physical casing of the skullcap lid is different than the ripley.

Please make sure you ran the ripley registry file as an adminstrator too.

I installed Win 7 pro x64 a day or two ago, and no surprising problems. Nothing that would stop me from using win7 while they fix a few little things like fn+f12 disabling the t-pad and stuff. I haven't had a ton of time to check out every little thing, but in terms of the actual system working with the new OS, I haven't had any issues. OSD, Aurora Lights, and most all other features seem to work correctly.

edit* Also have another comment. I've seen several people advising or giving tips to turn off the win 7 UAC. I haven't had any problems with the UAC negatively affecting other programs. Unless you just can't stand having it pop up, I actually feel it's somewhat irresponsible to disable it completely as it's a pretty decent security measure. Are there specific programs that have been proven to be messed up by the UAC?

    (Just a thought) -

Try FN+F7 to reboot in 8800 mode - sounds like you have installed in integrated (internal) gfx mode?

I'm trying to switch to binaryfx so I can install the integrated graphics driver, but I'm unable to do so.

I have all drivers installed (except for the integrated graphics driver) but when i press fn + f7 it displays the message to switch to binaryfx, I click OK, but it doesn't switch. Any ideas? Thanks.

Have you installed the correct chipset drivers? You can get the Win 7 x64 intel chipset driver from the Alienware site. Make sure this has been installed first then install the OSD driver then install the driver for the 8800M GTX - shouldn't matter if you're in Binary or dedicated - installs fine for me either way.

You don't have to install the chipset from Alienware to get BinaryGFX to work. I'm using chipset drivers that I downloaded straight from Intel.

Hold down the right click button on the touchpad when the laptop is turned off. This should boot the laptop into integrated graphics mode, then install your driver. See if you are able to boot into integrated graphics mode.

Are there any windows 7 drivers for the realtek hd audio or am I stuck with Alienware's vista x64.

I tried the one on the realtek main page but it doesn't have the realtek control panel.

I haven't tried it myself yet. I'm using the ones from Alienware that has the control panel.

I just checked the link I gave you, and it says that the links are for downloading the driver only. That must be why you aren't seeing the control panel. Try installing the one from Alienware which contains the software, and then update manually through the device manager and choosing the driver file.

It wouldn't let me update manually after installing the vista driver so I just did it the other way around (not sure if that makes any difference anyway)

I managed to get the touchpad fn+f12 to work. All I did was install the alienware driver then the synaptics driver then playing around on the hardware tab for the synaptics settings. (Not really sure what I did but I disabled the two HID-complient mouse hardwares then re-enabled them).

I was able to update manually from the vista driver. I downloaded the zip file not the .exe file of the latest realtek driver and pointed Windows to it.

How were you able to get the alienware driver to install? I wasn't able to.

I got the microphone to work also after messing with settings and stuff. See pics for reference below.

ah of course, the zip file.

What alienware driver are you asking about?

The realtek one was kinda awkward. The setup screen doesn't load but it does install itself. Don't know why this happens but when I run the setup, the realtek folder just appears in the program files and when I restart, the control panel and everything else works. I'll try redoing it with the zip file.

Oh I used the vista x64 instead of the windows 7 one then I overwrote it with the windows 7 driver from synaptics.

I figured out the exact steps I did.
In the synaptics hardware tab, disable the hid-complient mouse for the plugged in mouse then disable synaptics touchpad. After that fn+f12 works.

Only thing right now is that it won't work if you plug in a mouse after loading windows or load windows with a mouse plugged in. So you'll have to redo the steps to get it to work. I think it'll still work if you don't have a mouse plugged in.

I've extracted this awkey.inf from the vista x64 10.1.8 using winrar
and installed this awkey.inf after installing the latest synaptics driver
guess what? the fn+f12 works flawlessly! ;) . I've attached the zip file here.

    run awkey.cmd or
    alternatively, run this command
    rundll32 syssetup,SetupInfObjectInstallAction DefaultInstall 128 awkeys.inf

    hi clameyerror,

have you tried using this mobility modder to change the 8800gtx driver from desktop to mobile drivers?
usually whatever driver that are offered on the manufacterer's website are for desktop.

    here's the link:
    http://www.driverheaven.net/nvmodtool.php

i'm not sure about nvidia because i am using ATI HD3870 myself.

Can you please post the steps clearly on how to install this command and the exact order you installed the synaptic driver? I'm still having trouble getting the fn+12 to work. I ran the .bat file but I got no results. I'm using the latest synaptic driver as well.

you will need to uninstall the driver first because you have to run the awkey right after the driver is installed.

    1) install the synaptic driver ( no mouse attached)
    2) DO NOT REBOOT YET
    3) run awkey.cmd (make sure it's extracted properly to a folder, don't run from the zip file.)
    4) reboot.

after rebooting you will notice that you have an extra option in your synaptics setting. [attached image]
    your fn+f12 should work

Anyone have any problems with anti-virus software / internet security software?

Apparently after installing anti-virus or internet security the software to rate computer performance starts to return errors and when 3d apps are running, BSODs occur.

    I'm using Kaspersky btw

I'm using AVG-free version 9 and Microsoft Security Essentials, and no problem so far. NO BSOD's since installing Windows 7.

Apparently, the cause is because of Kaspersky. Not sure about my bsods though but I'm thinking its also due to kaspersky not agreeing with my graphics card since after each bsod, the windows action center keeps telling me that I need to install my graphics driver (the exact same one thats already installed.)

not a problem. happy that i could help.

btw, AlienFX does work. you need to install version 2.0.10 http://support.alienware.com/Suppor...d_Center/m15x_CommandCenter_Win7_x64_2010.exe

then follow BatBoy's post. Downside is you can't get AlienSense to work with 2.0.10. So it's either no AlienFX or no AlienSense(which i think it's useless).

anyway, i prefer AlienFX tho. it works with fn+f11 and Command Center 2.0.10 now comes with the option for u to turn off the panel when you use fn+f11. loved it!
