Windows 7 Missing Drivers in Alienware M15X

As you may have heard Windows 7 become the most operating system people want to use. There are many good opinions about Windows 7 this day. About their good works, performances, recognizing most devices well, and all of good things they have.

When it comes to the Alienware m15x with Windows 7 64 bit installed, there are some drivers that people hard to find. So here in this post, I will give you some important drivers for the previous m15x. Here are some drivers that AlienWare has released for the m15x for Windows 7
    64-bit users.

    - Alienware Command Center v2.0.10 for Windows 7 64-bit

Command Center houses all of Alienware’s exclusive software. By placing programs like AlienSense, AlienTouch, AlienFusion and AlienFX® in a single, user-friendly interface you gain more control over your own system. Better updating OSD manager to make it works well

    - M15x On-Screen Display Utility 0007

    Area-51 m15x On-Screen Display Utility for Windows 7 64-bit.

    - M15x Touchpad Driver 13.2.9.0

Touchpad driver for Windows 7 x64.

What should the average temperature be when running thermofan?

I keep getting around 60-70 for CPU temp normally with x36 bios.

I get normally temps from 45-55 on idle and 60-75 when I'm doing something intensive such as encoding video or gaming with the x36 BIOS installed. These temps also depend on your room temps as well.

Any problems persisting on X36? I'm still on X32 and wondering if my high temps have anything to do with that.

There are no problems with the x36, Ennea. The CPU fan blows a lot though with the x36. It can be a little too noisy at times. That's why many previous m15x users switched back to the x32 BIOS. It will definitely cool your CPU temps, but then you'll get more fan noise.

However, I need to use the x36 BIOS since that is the only way I will get my m15x to recognize the new ATI card when it comes.

My CPU temps are actually all right. It's my GPU temps that are ridiculous right now. It idles at 60-64C and during games it goes up to 70C and result in the drivers failing. The drivers try to stabilize themselves but it seems the heat makes it continuously fail.

Would x36 only benefit my CPU temps or GPU temps as well? Also, I think my GPU fan might be broken as I never hear it go off anymore...

Are you monitoring your temps with themofan?

The x36 will benefit your CPU temps. According to thermofan, what is your maximum fan speed for the GPU? You should be getting around 5500rpms and up.

On both HW Monitor and Thermofan. My second fan is definitely broken, only 24xx and my first fan might be too, only 45xx. But the second fan, which is the GPU fan I assume, is in a more dire condition.

I guess I'll have to re-paste my GPU and get a new fan? :/ Not on warranty anymore unfortunately...

Actually, 70C is a pretty low max temp for the GPU. I get 85C on gaming and 50's on idle. I don't think your fan is messed up. It will only spin up to a max 5500rpm and above when your temp's break 88C on the GPU. I don't have my 8800 right now, so I can't test it again though.

The CPU fan is running as it should. It should only spin up to max if you CPU gets too warm.

However, if you do decide to replace the GPU fan, let us know and we'll help you out. I've taken out my 8800 countless times already and re-applied new thermal paste. I can help you out.

All right, yeah. I'm not sure about the fan now but I think I should re-apply the paste anyway. If you wouldn't mind PMing me a little about the process, I'd appreciate it.

    Ennea,

My 9800M GT (same card as your 8800M GTX) runs at 67-75 idle and up to 94C MAX when gaming. Clean vents and sink too. If the thermal paste works for you let me know. I'm currently in Prague, Czech Republic studying this semester. But when I get home in late January, I plan on doing the paste mod... (and a fan/sink mod possibly).

Hey, has anyone else had an issue where the synaptics options reset every time the computer is restarted? I did the patch so that fn-f12 works.

I am thinking of just reinstalling the synaptics driver without the patch because I'm also not able to use the side areas of the touchpad for scrolling.

I also have a 3870 on the way because my 8800 has been resurrected one too many times... Everything else is working fine. Oh except the OSD crashes if I open the command center (I'm using the version where lightFX work but there's no Aliensense. I don't use Sense anyways).

I'll also post my experiences with a 3870 in a few weeks.

Isn't this the purpose though, to disable the touchpad automatically when you plug in an external mouse? If you don't want this to happen then go into the synaptics options an uncheck Disable internal pointing device when external USB pointing device is attached.

I am having no problems at all with the mousepad.

@didymus03 -- you have to enable scrolling before you can do so on the mousepad. Go into the settings. Take a look at my screenshot to make it easier. You have to unplug your external mouse first though before you can access these settings.

Hey thanks for the reply. Yeah I reread my post and I didn't word it very well. The driver turns off my touchpad even when I don't have an external mouse plugged in. And even when I uncheck the box, the next time I start up the computer it's checked again and I can't use my touchpad (even with no other pointing device plugged in). I guess there's two problems here:
1.) The driver resets any setting I apply to it whenever the computer restarts.
2.) Even without any external pointing device, the computer detects something else and the touchpad doesn't work.

Basically if I start up my computer without an external mouse, I have to get one real quick in order to access the driver options and disable the checkbox so I can use my touchpad. It's strange.

I also checked the scrolling options and they were enabled, but when I left the settings menu, the checkbox reset again, and I had to grab an external mouse to uncheck it again ><

Basically just knowing that no one else is experiencing the same problem is good because now I have reason spend time messing with it. It hasn't been a huge deal but definitely something I am going to get around to correcting.

*Edit: Ok, so I redownloaded the Synaptics driver and the fix. I uninstalled my driver, restarted, installed the one I just downloaded and the fix and I'm having no problems now. I did run both in administrator mode which might have been my problem the first time around. I did it originally a while ago and can't remember how I installed it then exactly.

So now Windows 7 is pretty much working perfectly with my m15x. OSD still crashes whenever I open Command Center, but I rarely open CC and when I do, I can always just reopen the OSD afterwards.

Yeah, often times it's the annoying UAC that messes everything up. :( That's why I shut it off. You don't need it.

Well, i dont have this option in the driver. neither in the one you posted(the latest official) nor in the older straight-from-alienware one. the option in commandcenter doesn't work as well, so ill just have to keep trying.
i also found out that the fn+f12 fix works as long as there is no mouse attached during startup. if you plug it in after windows finished loading, fn+f12 still works, but if you boot with a mouse plugged in, it won't work, even if you unplug the mouse.

das, please follow my guide for installing the touchpad drivers. If you install it normally, without the awkey patch, that I included, Fn+F12 will not work at all. Also, important, make sure that you do all of this in adminstrator mode or disabled UAC.

I'm using rainmeter 64 bit version. You can get it here LINK.
This theme that I'm using called Enigma is already included in the freeware. Just use that theme and customize it to your liking.

Make sure that you run the awkey in Admin mode. (Right-click on the file and then run it as admin.)

    Hello,

I just installed Windows 7 aswell and i got the same unknown drivers. I'll try figure it out what they are but as for now i have another problem. I installed the 186.81 drivers from nvidia and it detected my GPU correctly but for some reason, i do not have the PowerMizer option in nvidia's manager. That being said, my gpu is always at full clocks. Anyway to force powermizer or other alternatives?

    Thanks

    mixen

EDIT : concerning the unknown drivers, doing a windows update fixed 2 of them for me (out of 4).

You could try reinstalling the Vista 64x drivers for Bluetooth (from your MyHive) - that fixed the last 2 unknown "Base System Device" for me. Also, you could try reinstalling the card reader drivers.

    Hope this helps,

The Base system devices belong to Ricoh I believe (The memstick stuff).
You'll have to download them because windows can't find them.

Hey guys I've got a slight problem that I haven't been able to fix. I have an Area 51 m15x and just upgraded to Windows 7 64x from Vista 64x. Thanks to your guide dhoang I was able to get most things back in order. However I have trouble changing my wallpaper. They only response I get is the confirmation sound of changing themes. Anyone else having this problem?

A friend of mine (on 32 bit Win 7) had this same problem of hearing the switching sound but no actual change, but it was resolved when he upgraded his video driver (which seems to be a little shaky with the m15x from what I have seen from others).

That aside, I am not very intelligent when it comes to CPU's and OS types so I have a question - my m15x has an Intel Core 2 Duo T8100 @2.10 GHz and have win 7 32 bit installed - would a 64 bit version work for me? I guess I never understood the requirements for a 64 bit OS. I mainly wanted to do this because all the drivers I ams eeing from AW are 64bit versions, as is this guide. Thanks!

i am having trouble installing the synaptics driver. My usb mouse constantly stops working (i hear the disconnect a usb device sound) and this must be causing a conflict. When i download and try the synaptics driver from synaptics site I get an error when I open it that says "ziplib error in ..\Common\InfoUnzip.cpp@73: 2" .

When I try to use the 64 bit drivers for synaptics on myhive for win 7 I cna open the setup and check the radio button for accepting the license agreement but when I hit the next button it doesnt do anything....anyone have any idea is going on? This has happened to me on my first(32 bit) installation of 7 also.

It is just a USB optical mouse, no batteries in it. It is a logitech MX518, i have tried the software for it but it didnt help any. I have tried using the synaptics driver off of synaptics website, but the ziplib error that I mentioned above is what happens. Also, I notice when I download the file from synaptics it says it is 14 megs, and it downloads instantly. I have a decent connection, but not that fast. I have tried saving it and renaming it .exe and anything else I thought may be causing the problem but I always get the same "zip lib" error in both 32 and 64 bit win 7 on 2 different laptops (the other is an Acer aspire)

Where is the new command center for the m15x is there a download?? Last time I downloaded a command center program my command center thought it was a desktop PC not a laptop, and I lost all my lights....Really sucked..I got that fixed, here is the fix if anyone runs into that problem...Took me 4 weeks to get it going!! :)
    ________________________________________________________________
To start, Flash your m15x bios to X36 then reinstall Windows 7 (64) and all the drivers in the correct order, save the command center for last. TURN OFF UAC and OSD will work FINE!!!! Install m15x_ripley_model.exe, Then install M15x-M17x-CommandCenter-1033(x64) after that install AlienFx_KB_Fix, Shutdown (not restart)! When windows starts open command center and close the current theme and open a new one. This is how I got mine to work great! Works like it did with Vista on my Alienware Area-51 m15x!!
All the drivers and downloads in my post you can download from this site, or google!

If you dont want to reinstall windows, Just flash bios (X36) and remove any command Center you have installed, and run CCLEANER and run REG FIX, and fix all problems, restart and then start with the new downloads for command center!!

Thanks for the update. I'll add that into my guide. UAC needs to be disabled for the OSD utility to work. So many m15x users run into this problem.

if you can, just install x64. The old area 51 m15x should have a 64bit cpu. Why would you want to keep a 32 bit OS?

You would only need to download 32 bit drivers to make the guide work for you. This includes the Command Center too.
Check here for a comprehensive list of 32 bit drivers. LINK Credits go to Oceanus.
