To continue the tradition I have several videos I am currently uploading to my channel. I've had Alpha, Beta and now I am posting release videos on FPS for the R3 model of BF3.
Figured the R1 and R2 guys could also post their things here so that we have a collective thread rather than a bunch of separate ones all over the place.

Suprisingly smooth, I'm impressed. Reckon Skyrim will run well on a max specced r3 with a decent overclock?

Nice post DeeVu!
I'm picking a retail copy up for my R2 tomorrow so I'll contribute when I get it running! Hopefully it does... -

I have not made a video, but I can tell the tale of my M11x R1. It is ... sad.
My R1 is stock, I have my GPU overclocked, that's it. I can load into the single player campaign fine, but in order to play close to 30 FPS I have to put EVERYTHING to low/off AND lower my resolution to 800x600.
Multiplayer is much of the same, but a little worse. I lowered the resolution to the minumum (728x564?) and then I get between 25-30 FPS. This was on Caspian map Conquest mode.
Needless to say I am looking for an upgrade. -
I guess it is my CPU that is holding me back. I was running in FS mode. I had Gamebooster 3.0 running, I am running the newest drivers from Nvidia. I closed everything that I wasn't using (Steam, Skype, etc).
I thought it would at least get around 35-40 at native resolution on all lowest settings, even at 1024x768. The game looks good at minimum settings at native resolution, but when you go down to the lowest, it looks like your playing Wolfenstein 3D, but outside....kinda blocky

I must be doing something wrong... BF3 runs like crap for me. Even with everything on low settings it isn't running well at all.
I've only played on multiplayer so far but I can't imagine single player being much different. It can't be internet lag, I've been playing on servers with <20 ping.
GPU OC @ 575 core clock, 1415 shader clock, and 840 mem clock.
CPU OC @ 164Mhz
Game Booster 3.0
Throttlestop TPL @ 40/40
HDMI to 22" TV (1280x768 res I believe) -
i might test it tonight on my r3 see how it goes. I will only be using it MP really.
-
I would love to do more testing on my pinmodded R1 system but I'm not going to buy it because I'm terrible at it.
I did make a video of the beta on my system running at 1080p, I'm sure I could get better performance than that with some tweaks.
Battlefiled 3 beta on pinmodded R1 -
Keep the info coming haha. This thread is going to be the deciding factor on when or even if I buy BF3...
-
i am finding it doesn't run as nice as i had hoped on the R2

I got from 13-24 FPS with an average of roughly 16-17, during the first campaign mission. Mind you, this was mostly just walking around in the subway with a few enemies here and there - nothing too demanding like explosions or heavy movement.
This is on "auto" settings which I believe for me was everything set on low except texture, which was on high. I'll try it again later with texture set to low as well, but I don't expect a huge difference.
Personally I don't think I will be able to enjoy this game unless I can find a way to improve the framerate.
As far as improvements from the beta, there aren't any that I can see. It doesn't appear to perform any better on my M11x than the beta did.
I really want to be able to enjoy this game... so much so that I am considering getting a gaming desktop. -

I'm keen to see what sort of frames other R3 uses pull, as I'll be almost entirely relying on my m11x r3 for the next few months as I look for a place to live, and not being able to play BF3 will make me one sad panda

Disable speedstep in the bios, it runs fine for me now.

Looks like an M11x R2 I7 from some earlier posts. I'll hopefully try it on my R3 I5 later tonight

I'm running on a stock M11x R2 I7 4gb Memory with Nvidia Gpu enable and this game is running very sluggish on all low settings with resolution on 1024x768. Kinda sad to see it not being able to play it properly and actually having to resort to my Xbox 360 copy of BF3 to actually play with instead. Any suggestions to make the game playable. Let me know!
-
-
Edit: Try singleplayer, runs a little bit better but the framerates are still sloppy to me. Along with everything in low settings using the Auto settings and running in 1024x768 resolution. Kind of sad to see the 360 look better than this. -
My mx11 r2 is not stable at 164 or 166 when running high end games. Some peoples run fine so I would experiment but I found 160 to be the sweet spot.

Has anyone tried it on an R3? Preferably the i5 model. Mine should be arriving within the next 7 days so I'm anxious to see what settings I should go for when I first load BF3 up on there.
-
Also I updated with a 32 player game I just played. Consistently above 30fps, sometimes peaks at 50fps (Caspian Border). -
Just to add to the above, I've got the R3 I5 with 4 GB, only had a quick go on the campaign and a 32 player rush game, but with everything on medium, except I think high textures and SSAO seemed playable to me, probably above 30fps consistently as per DeeVu.
Apart from the noise from the fan, perfectly playable (with headphones)
-
i hate you all. i have to wait till the 28 untill it's released here in the uk.. damn north americans!!!
-
I just installed this game because I learned the r2 could play it. it is nice and playable, but not beautiful. I am running the nvidia drivers 280.26 Has anyone tried the newer drivers to see if the game gets better?
I have been having audio problems where I only get a small amount of the audio that should be playing. -

Has anyone played around with the config file? Does it even exist?
-
-
This is very frustrating. I believe I have my R2 optimized for BF3 and it's not even getting 20 fps on the tutorial level with rock bottom settings. I have TS, GPU and CPU OC, Gamebooster 3.0, latest NVIDIA drivers, and speedstep disabled.
Is there anyone who has the game running well on an R2 that could post their setup or what settings they tweaked? I'm all out of ideas... -
This suggestion actually works quite well. Using that, I've also upped some other settings and the game looks impressive but runs more smoothly than any of the prefigured graphics settings. I'm using the 285.62 drivers.
Audio problem has hit me once before.
EDIT: If you can't access the above link, the OP says:
"set graphics to custom -
set all to medium, turn off AA and set post AA to low and anisotropic filtering to 16x, turn off motion blur and set ambient occlusion to ssao" -
We will see config programs come out some time to make it easier so that you do not need to download software to edit it.
The file is located in your My Documents/BF3 folder ( If I remember) -

To offer you some quick advice to push you in the right direction
In the game hit the ~ to bring up console.
Render.drawfps true
Renderdevice.forcerenderaheadlimit 0
Renderdevice.triplebufferingenable false
This will help your render ahead and should smooth your game out a bit. You may NOT see a gain right away in FPS but the performance will seem smoother and your hit detection in MP games will be much improved.
-
Do you have to do this every time you enter a game? -
I have to do this every time I change servers. Not for each game. I am looking to see what type of config file it will allow in the launch directory. The search continues-------
-
Can't wait to try BF3 on my pin modded R1. I got BFBC2 relatively playable so I am hoping I can get this running as well.
If not I will just have to "suffer" it on my 2500k / HD6970 desktop -
Xaser04 - please try the following settings
Set to custom
Native Resolution
Set all options to Medium except the following
Shadows (low) wont see much of a difference at all from medium. Just a little less crisp on screen.
AA-Disabled (includes post)
AF-1
SSAO/HBAO disabled
Blur (up to you but I disable it. gives me a headache)
Use above renderdevice changes above.
Let us know how you do -
I should probably be less lazy and look through with my editor... maybe if I get the desire I will sometime soon. I hope that we start seeing editors out before I do that though -
My non pinmodded R1 can't handle BF3 at all. At the lowest settings and lowest resolution. I wonder how much the pinmod helps...
-
-
@Whiplash - I already have that set to zero. The RenderDevice setting still shows 1 as default.
(edit) and to clarify it has always been set to ZERO globally even before BF3 install.
Thanks -

Sorry for the confusion.
Edit: Yeah DeeVu, I was the one that was missing something.. I'm also a college student and today I'm running on three hours of sleep. I apologize.
