Yeah it does happen. Especially with a rocket launcher or tank.

anything under about 18-20 fps is unplayable for me.

Battlefield 3 [PC] - Multiplayer: Operation Firestorm (64 Player Map) - M11x R3 - YouTube
Updated front with 64 player map (Operation Firestorm).
One of my best games ended up going 10-0 [4040 points + 2000 in awards] -
Nice vid Deevu. I think it may time to chop in this r2 for an r3.
-
I still get around 16-20 fps even on the lowest settings with my R2, which is unplayable to me.
Trying to boost it up to at least >25 fps, but I haven't managed to do so yet. I'm only level 2 on multiplayer because I can't enjoy the game enough yet to play it regularly with the framerate I'm getting.
It's odd how the game is very playable on some R2's but not on others. I've followed all suggestions in this thread and optimized it the best I can, but my performance in-game still sucks. -
Aye, just had a quick blast now. Some maps are playable (Tehran), most are not. Real shame. As the game is incredible. Guess I'll have to enjoy it on the desktop only.
-
I really like how optimized Operation Firestorm is for its size.

I have MX11 R2 i7 640um 8GB, Set my option mostly all high and medium, no shadow, blur and anti-xxx, Playable smoothly Surprise that it can run around 30 FPS
For anyone have problem on getting low fps on Battlefield 3 try this !
1. Get Intel Turbo Boost "I7 or I5" Intel® Turbo Boost Technology 2.0
2. Game Booster 3.1 Game Booster 3.0 Free Download, Speed Up PC for Top Gaming Performance
3. Tested! - Get this driver! for Nvidia 285.62 (Lastest Version, I used it and it improved BF3's performance) - NVIDIA DRIVERS 285.62 WHQL
4. EVGA (OC your GPU dp as your own RISK!)
5. If you your FPS dont increase by the following steps just GO ! Reimage your laptop
ENJOY! HOPE IT HELP YOU. I KNOW HOW YOU FEEL WHEN YOU REALLY WANT TO PLAY, BUT YOU CAN'T REALLY PLAY. REP ME! ENJOY AGAIN!
IF MY SUGGESTION IS NOT RIGHT. WE TALK! THAT IS WHAT I DID ON MY BABE LAPTOP!!

For those of you who are having problems I wanted to ask if you are running setpll. During the beta I noticed if I used setpll I would have low frame rates and general poor performance. Presently I just use the overclocking in the BIOS to 166. The way I understand it setpll uses the same hardware mechanism that setpll does. Try experimenting with lowering any overclocking in the BIOS you may have and see if performance increases with lower settings. I hope that all can play this game as well as I am...

I am currently (as of a few hours ago) playing Multiplayer (Level 6) and Campaign with no issues. consistent 25-30 FPS with my R1... The best part?
Current resolution: 1366 x 768
Textures: High
Everything else low/off.
I think the Auto settings really are the best settings... when I lower my resolution or lower textures, I get a lower framerate... strange! I have been playing on my 54 inch Panasonic Plasma via HDMI and I must say, I love it!
It looks almost as good as my buddy's xbox version to me. While I do hit the occasional laggy spot in VERY intense situations, it definately playable for me. I know ~25 FPS isn't workable for everyone, but I really don't mind.
I don't get a whole lot of time to play, but when I do, its not too shabby... now if I didn't suck at FPS on PC it would be awesome. I need more practice. -
what exactly is evga? -
-
im running on Low Med settings.. I think it looks great.. only getting around 30 FPS a second but honeslty thats fine. No problems.. I have an R2 i7 with 8gb ram. Nothing overclocked. all stock
i suck at the game.. just having fun...
Battlefield 3 - Alienware M11x R2 - YouTube -
Something I am curious about
if you set the settings all the way to the lowest on the R3, what FPS do you get playing in the most intense online games? -
Unplayable if you ask me, but some people enjoy playing games at 17 fps I guess. -
-
-
I seem to read a lot of mixed reactions about BF3 and the m11x, I think people arent being clear enough about what revision they are using or something...

Can anyone give me the average R2 frame rate on BF3?
For me, I got it around 20- 32 average is staying around 24-25 . i7640um 8gb ram and ssd. using 290 driver no OC. used turbo boost 3. Any suggestion should i try to increase my FPS!?
Thank guys! -
note: just because your OC is stable with Kombustor doesnt necessarily mean it will work with every game, my GPU is stable @ 605/1500/910 but I have yet to find a game that will take that OC. Hope this helps goodluck! -

With my m11xr2 i5 I'm getting playable frame rates, but as some other people have mentioned the audio cuts out all too often ruining the experience. I realize this isn't just limited to the m11x but is there any fix out there for the random stuttering or partial/total loss of audio?
-
) is that the registry edit that places network priority over sound, means that at times, the sound will cut out so that your ping will not increase. Therefore, the sacrifice is loss of sound (happens only for a second for me, and occurs once a game, so not a big issue) or you sacrifice your ping (making it harder to shoot people (if they are standing still its the same, only moving targets will be effected))
Hopefully that explains the problem and is correct info -
Its making me want to not return my r3(unopened w/ full refund waiting) that I ordered believing my r2 had fully succumbed to water damage(long story, it worked after a week of drying just fine).
Thanks for the response though much appreciated, I can't keep my CPU temps below 85C playing BF3 either without a laptop cooler so I'll keep to my desktop to enjoy the game. -
Here's the fix that solved my audio issue.
Go to your BF3 profile settings (C: Documents/Battlefield3/settings/blahblahblahPROFILE), open with WordPad, and change the value of the first line of code from 0 to 1. Worked like a charm in my case and sounds 10x better. -
-
I'm using Gamebooster en OC my 335m even using some tweaks I saw online. -
The most I've managed to push BF3 on my M11x R2 was 20-30 fps with 800 x 600 with low settings across the board. I am using the 258.62 driver. Any ideas?
-
Try using the newer drivers. Nvidia updated their drivers several times after BF3's release optimizing performance. I'm currently using 289.75, and I'm getting roughly the same frames as you with higher settings. Also, if you aren't, TS and OC'ing are a must.
-
I was thinking of getting Battlefield 3 for my M11xR1. Do you guys think it will run smoothly on it at 30fps or maybe even higher?
-
It runs, but not so great on the r1.
-
How well will the r3 run BF3 on high settings with AA off?
-
Better... check youtube, tons of videos on this.
-
What framerates are you guys getting on the R1? I would prefer 25fps at minimum at least.
-
I only get 30fps on all lowest details with my R3. I personally find it unplayable next to my desktop...
-
-
R2 i7 trottlestop 2.3ghz gpu at 525mhz everything on low 1366x768 getting between 20 to 35 fps. Not same thing like a desktop but for once in a while lan with lots of beer that ok.
-
Which driver do you guys think is best for a non-pinmodded R1, the 285.62, 295.73, or 296.10?
EDIT: Using the 295.73 atm, framerate seems to have gone up by a few, currently at 17-33 fps, average 26 fps, but I'm getting some weird artifacts while playing. Not sure if it's because my gpu OC is too high (I haven't changed it since my old drivers) or what. I'll try lowering it by some and see if it helps. Might test other drivers later. ----- UPDATE: Artifacting has confirmed to be due to overheating issues. As my m11x heated up (into the mid 70s typically), I began having black lines come from all over the screen "pointing" towards the center of the screen. Performance also dropped by a considerable amount, maybe 30-50%. I would not recommend playing the game for more than a couple hours before letting it cool down. Otherwise, performance is good.
EDIT2: To all of those with R1's: I'm playing on 32-48 man servers with 25-30fps stable. Here are my settings. ----- UPDATE: I changed the BF3 settings around a bit, got the game to look much much better while keeping the fps about the same. (In fact, when servers had less people on, about 20 total, I found that the fps was actually higher with the below settings). Basically I switched 4x AF for Max AA Post. I also changed the resolution from 1280x720 to 1366x768. Texture quality is still at medium. This put more load on the GPU without stressing the CPU (which happens to be the bottleneck for the m11x), allowing for unaltered performance. Note that those of you who actually happen to have the GPU as their bottleneck probably shouldn't try the settings below for obvious reasons. The rest of us should find these to be pretty helpful. Also, AA deferred doesn't help at all, only post.

Has anyone else with 4gb of RAM noticed MASSIVE lag problems with battlefield 3? I have 4gb of memory and after playing for a while the usage slowly creeps up to almost 100% usage! I enabled the perfoverlay chart and when this happens the game freezes and lags and the chart spikes off the screen! Anyone else notice this?
-
What fps in BF3 are you getting on the R1?
-
actually about the same as BC2, 25 fps i was suprised. On lowest settings the GPU isn't a bottleneck. The problem is that after some time playing (Maybe 5 minutes) I will get random stutters that can last up to 4 seconds and during this time the render.perfoverlay chart skyrockets. I looked at task manager performance and my RAM is at almost fully used. I was looking around and some people have said it might be memory leak that started with the last update.
