Could a vmware machine using an os 32 work with TB 6.3?

I have followed this guide exactly, and unfortunately when I write the timings it rolls back to the original timings, when it reads the SPD on the RAM. Am I doing something wrong?

I start the computer with disabled driver enforcement.

    Run the program, click editor.

Correct the timings, and select Reprogram SPD with new SPD data.

After it refreshes it has the old timings, not the new ones.

What am I doing wrong? Is it because I'm using the stock ram? Is it factory locked to not be able to change? I'm running Windows with driver enforcement disabled, and I purchased a full copy of Thaiphoon.

Don't try to do anything with your memory module. Hyundai used to write protect SPD EEPROM. And your memory module seems to be not an exception. To make sure your memory module is write protected, please choose EEPROM -> PSW protection and post here a screenshot. If your module is write-protected the listed checkbox should be grayed (disabled).

It is grayed out. So they're locked.

Thank you so very much for your help! Looks like I need to get some new RAM if I want to overclock more than I have.

What brands are unlocked? Is it recommended that I get the same speed RAM and use Thaiphoon or just get slower RAM?

I do not recommend you to buy memory modules manufactured by Hynix (Hyundai) and Silicon Power. They are always write protected. Kingston, Samsung, Kingmax, A-DATA and many others prefer not to lock RAM modules.

Anyone able to get 6.3 version working? I have a 32bit W7 install going with DDR3, and Windows detects the memory just fine, but Thaiphoon Burner just says "Undefined" when reading the module.

Curious if anyone else had success with 6.3, or what might be the issue on my laptop. For the record, SPDtool also reports the same 'undefined' thing...

DOH! I just paid $22 bucks and I have write protected memory! gah! well that was a waste..... Guess I will have to stick to 180OC :(

Thank you for all the help though! I did find changed the timing scary anyway... without the pictures on the first post I was nervous I was doing it wrong.

I did it once on my VERY OLD HP nc6000 which has DDR1 RAM.
And I did it with not working RAM (DOA). It became VERY HOT. Like 150 degrees Celsium I guess. But all other guys who did that with modern laptops did that and all was fine.

"There is also another way of recovering corrupted SPD EEPROM device, which consists in hot plugging a DIMM module without the need for pin isolation. So, after POST is complete, enter BIOS Setup utility to get as much time as we need to install DIMM leisurely. Insert DIMM making sure the connector edge of the DIMM aligns correctly with the slot and push down firmly until it snaps into place and both levers close. Now press the F10 key to exit. Upon exiting BIOS choose No to not save the settings. After that your system will not be restarted and Windows will begin loading."

this is what it says over at throttlestop support(i just found it..) but damn a little confirmation that it works would be awesome. is there anyone here that has used this method to reflash some ram?

It is the same as previous.

I use to press F8 before boot, install RAM stick and then choose normal OS boot.

Hi. Was your problem resolved? Try this:

    Shut down the computer.
Plug the MagSafe adapter in if it's not connected
On the built-in keyboard, press (left side) shift-control-option and the power button at the same time.
Release all buttons at the same time after the chime.

After OSX had finished booted, go to check in "About this Mac":

It doesn' t work, the problem is that the MB doesn' t boot if i plug only the 4gb 1333 stick. if i plug a 1gb 1066 and a 4gb 1333 all work well.
I' ve purchased thaiphoon and i try to change the frequency, but it semms to write correctly but when i press "read" again the frequency come back to default settings.
Sorry for my english and thanks for your help.

I've got an M11xR2 that I am trying to upgrade the RAM on. I have the Super Blaster Version of Thaiphoon, version 8.001. The laptop is a Core-i7 U 640 with 2x2GB DDR3-1333 Samsung RAM. I am trying to install Corsair DDR3-1600 RAM, 2x4GB. I have been successfully flashing a single stick through the various speed grades, first all of the 1333 grades, then the two available 800 speed grades. I also tried the settings posted here, but they are for a Core-i5, not an i7. He was also seemingly using Samsung RAM, just overclocking them not swapping for higher capacity. At no time does my M11xR2 ever get past POST. With the Samsung RAM CPU-z reports only 400 speeds(399.1 MHz I think), even though they are 1333 MHz memory sticks. This feels like a voltage problem, not a timing problem, but I have no BIOS settings for RAM at all.

Is the new Corsair memory not reprogrammable to work in my M11xR2?

@nar you are doing it wrong. At first attach here default profiles and tell me what you want.

Whose default profiles? I have no XMP profiles that I can see and the laptop is already not running the current memory at its' SPD timings.

I have the stock RAM that runs fine. I want to increase my capacity from 4 GB to 8 GB. This requires new modules. The new modules do not work. Max for this laptop is 4GB per stick, so that should be fine, but the timings may be off. From my troubleshooting, I have tried timings all the way down to 800, so I now think that it is a voltage error. This is 1.5 volt RAM, and the stock Samsung is only 1.35volt. I have no option to change the voltage in BIOS. Maybe the SPD sets the voltage as well?

I am able to flash the RAM using my M17xR4.

    Voltage may be also edited.
Read your RAM. Save it to a profile. And attach here. Then tell me what you want aka what timings for what frequency. If you want to lower voltage I can do it too. Not sure how stable they will work though.

    BUMP -because it deserves it.

You can always look through the speedbins in thaiphoon, and load something you would have bought to upgrade your RAM and see if they will work on the RAM AW sent you. That what I did... works like a charm, making my cheap Hynix ram have exact details of the 2133mhz cas 12 RAM on the market.

Course you still need some experience and RAM knowledge but , theres some tutorials out there. Use them.

Interesting.. you actually had Hynix ram that wasn't write protected?

I just took a look at my alienware m11x Hynix ram and under PSWP write protection the SMBus' are greyed out.. guess that means I'm SOL right?

    Can I mod a ddr3-1333 dimm to a ddr3U-1333 stick?

    The a10-5750m supports only ddr3-1866, ddr3L-1600, and ddr3u-1333... Normal = 1.5v L = 1.35v U = 1.25v
