Hellooooo
Whenever I switch to the nvidia dedicated GPU I for some strange reason lose the ability to connect external displays to the m11x. This is a problem if I want to connect my drawing tablet and use Photoshop and other fairly intensive applications that eat the poor integrated intel chip for breakfast.
I CAN connect external displays with the intel graphics activated. This only happens when I switch over to dedicated nvidia graphics.
So far I've only tested the VGA port since I don't have any HDMI, DVI or displayport cables with me atm so I'm not 100% sure that this isn't a problem exclusive to the VGA port.
I've been switching drivers around at an attempt to fix this issue to no avail.
Any pointers would be greatly appreciated!

While not able to give u any explanations, I often connect my little alien through VGA port to my projector, with 335 of course, so far no issues encounted.
Try toggle with Fn F1, and try right click on the background and run nvidia propreties, maybe that'll help. -
sounds like you need to go into the bios and under the graphics section you need to enable it.
-
Thing is, every external monitor shows up, name and all,(both in w7 display settings and nvidia control panel) but the displays report no sync, no cable detected etc.
If I switch over to the intel graphics it works instantly. Also If I reboot with the external monitor connected, the monitor displays correctly until windows finishes loading. The screen then goes black for 1 sec on the laptop and the external monitor disconnects as soon as I arrive at the w7 login screen. -

sorry, i should have been more specific. in the bios, under the Advanced tab, hit enter on Graphics, then hit enter on Hybrid Graphics and enable it. hope that solves your problem

My only options under Graphics are Switchable and Discreet. No 'Hybrid' option. It has always been set to switchable.
The external monitor works fine when I mess around in BIOS. Once windows loads and I'm at the login screen the external monitors disconnect. -
You should definitively look at your Nvidia config. Nothing to do with the bios. Otherwise, try install the new beta driver (dell official) and the problem will most likely be solved.
-
I've tried both the regular dell drivers and the beta drivers with no fix.
You mention the nvidia config. Is this different from the "NVIDIA Control Panel" ? Because if it's not I'm not quite sure what I'm looking for. It registers the external monitor, name and all and everything is seemingly fine.
It gives me 2 choices in regards to refresh rate on the external monitor 59 and 60 Hertz. However it doesn't save my settings if I choose the 60 Hertz option. It instantly jumps back. Does this mean anything?
The monitor is a wacom cintiq drawing tablet, but I've tested the m11x on different, regular monitors with the same results when I run it on dedicated nvidia graphics. -
well it is the Nvidia Control Panel I'm talking about. Try changing the resolution etc and try (hot) plug/unplug the VGA cable. Not sure about your problems though. mine starts with 60 Hz and go upwards to 85.

I tried doing a complete clean driver reinstall this time so there's no conflicting files, but as soon as I switch over the the GT 335M the external display dies.
-
have you tried removing the display from the port, enabling the dedicated graphics, and then reconnecting the cable? I have a similar issue to yours and this solves the problem.
-
I have tried this, but regardless what I do the thing won't work when the GT 335M is running. I'm starting to get desperate...

I had a similar problem with a Dell XPS 1330 I still use from time to time, although it was the HDMI port I was using and not a VGA port connection.
One day I connected the laptop to the TV, and the TV kept telling me 'No Signal' and what not even though it used to work in the first place. Turns out my HDMI cable was terrible/busted and I went to buy a new one and now it works flawlessly.
Who knows, it could be the cable you are using if it's not a system thing itself. I suppose it's just a matter of investigation. Good luck in finding the source of the problem and fixing it!

I've tried different cables and it works fine when I'm using discrete graphics. Also Dell's customer support is terrible. I can't even get through to send them a mail the last couple of days because of "technical difficulties"

I connect with HDMI to my 5.1 receiver, which goes to my HDMI HDTV without issue.

We are looking into this.

How's it looking now, DellChrisM? NorthernAvengeR, did you get any resolution?
I've got exactly the same problem, except I haven't tested video cables yet. Mine seems to last a bit longer, with maybe 5 mins of gameplaying straight after a cold reboot, and maybe 10 mins of normal windows operation. Then it starts to break connection with increasing frequency until it nothing comes up, taking about 2-5 mins.
