Hi there. I owned an m11x r1 for about a year and the hinges broke on it. I tried to fix it myself since the warranty was void but didn't succeed. The laptop still works fine it's just difficult to use. I really want to buy a new one since it was my favorite laptop but I read that they will be discontinuing them. Would it still be worth it to buy a new one? Also if I did buy one would I be able to transfer the RAM from my r1 to the new one?

Has the hinge ever been fixed by Dell? If not, call them up and they will fix the hinge one time if it's out of warranty. You'll have to send it in though, but they'll replace the hinge and i believe even the entire lid (inc LCD).

As for your RAM question - Yes but if it's the stock RAM it will be slower than the R3's stock RAM (R1 & R2 use 800MHz, R3 uses 1333MHz).

They replace all of the hinge related parts because the mounts are different to the new one, they don't care about DIY jobs because the only reason you had to do it in the first place is because of their faulty hinge design.
