So, long story short, I'm planning on selling my current notebook which is an ASUS UL30a and selling my self built desktop which would bring me enough to buy a new M11x R1 or maybe if I'm lucky, source a 2nd hand R2.
Now, I'd probably build another desktop in the next few months which would steer me towards an R1 but I have a few questions first.
I've never tried running dual monitors on the scrawny dual celeron of my laptop but would the R1 pump out to dual 1080p monitors without a problem? Only running flash in full screen or VLC when it was though, or maybe minecraft.
Also, how would it manage with multitasking? Namely running quite a few Firefox/Chrome tabs as well as the usual Skype etc. For comparison.
Lastly, what are people's experiences with Dell's outlet scratch and dent models? I've bought an Inspiron mini before that was scratch and dent and it was in mint condition so I'm tempted to risk it.
Cheers for any help
Ben

I think you'd probably be fine with the R1 or R2, but the R2's Nehalem based CPU is substantially superior to the Core 2 found in the R1.
With flash 10.1 supporting GPU acceleration, along with VLC, and minecraft being pretty lightweight of an application, I think all that matters is matching the price you are looking to spend and get whatever you can for that. The m11x series is plenty capable for what you are looking to do. -
I thought I would be, I just wanted to make sure because ULV processors don't always have the most ooomph.
Does anyone have the Win 7 64bit WEI scores of an R1 and 4gb RAM?
Also, are the motherboards interchangeable between revisions? For example, could I replace the motherboard in an R1 with one from an R2 with a cracked screen etc.? -
I've read on other threads that the mobos are interchangeable.
Coming from a 2 year long user of netbooks using Atom processors, ULV is a titanic of a CPU compared to other netbooks running Atom processors. You'll be happy with them
IMO, go with the R2 if your budget allows. More futureproof and better bang for buck. -
The only issue might be the lack of VGA on the R2 so the bottom tray might have to be replaced too.
Well, I'm on a 1.2ghz ULV celeron dual now and I must admit, it's as good as most processors in terms of usability.
I'll try to push to the R2 but it'll be a case of whatever is on eBay at the time and whether I get lucky.
