Hi guys, I'm still all over the place when it comes to the final decision of buying a laptop so I'll continue posting questions.
1) What is the battery life like for the r2 version of the m11x when just doing some word procession, and maybe some lite internet surfing (with possibly a messenger running)? I know the m11x r1 had some pretty decent numbers for batterylife for a laptop of it's type, and I would enjoy a large amount of battery life for university.
2) Next up, alienware promotes all of their processors as overclockable. I was under the impression that overclocking voided warranty, so if I tried to make my i7 640UM a little faster, would my warranty be void if something were to go wrong?
3) How do you guys find the screen size and keyboard size? I would like to be able to type decently fast, for doing papers and typing notes. I would also like to be able to easily see whats on the screen. I'd like to be able to lie in bed, rest the laptop on my knees and not have to sit down at a desk close to the screen.
4) Finally: would you guys consider this machine a tad too "dorky" or "nerdy" to take into a university class? Just a pure opinion question.
Thanks for the help again members of notebookreview!

2.You can overclock without voiding the warranty, it is a supported feature, hence the advertisements.
3. I find the screen and keyboard fine, I have no trouble typing at max speed, and the screen is big enough most of the time. For the battery life, weight, and portability the smaller screen seems fine to me.
4. No, I actually get compliments on my M11X all the time, even from the ladies. Everyone is amazed by the little laptop with a light up keyboard. I especially have people ask what it is and where to get it, they all have these ginormous 15 and 17 inch HP monsters, they fight over the wall outlets, the big laptops don't fit on the mini-desks, etc etc and when they see my pull out the M11X they want one. Nothing beats getting a round of MW2 while waiting for the class to start.
Also, college isn't high school, they won't make fun of you for being dorky, even if you show up in suspenders and a pocket protector. -
You are the man Yoda, thanks for the info!

Sorry for double posting, but I don't mind a second opinion if anyone would like to give one.

1. I also have about 8 hours for some simple text work and about 5 hours of working in Internet and some simple games on intel gpu.
2. Same as yoda
3. Yep, no problem. I type fast on this machine and I find it more comfortable for me then on other "big" laptop because buttons situated closer to each other on m11x. I can say more, my native language is Russian and i find no problem typing on this laptop though i don't have Cyrillic letters on it
4. Well some of my friends mention that it looks like evil robot, but no problem so farBut i guess its better to turn off all lights except keyboard...

I brought my M17x to a seminar for a presentation on Merotelic Attachments (Science stuff) and I got no words on my m17x at all. No one commented on it. In conclusion, if anything, no one cares what kind of computer you have. As long as it gets the job done.

Mine was delivered to me at my office so that it could be signed for. My boss and a few co-workers - those that would ever have an opinion one way or another about a laptop - loved it.

im on R1 sooo
1) n/a
2) OC on the m11x is factory set in bios, so warranty is ok
3) keyboard is fine, arrow keys are kinda cramped, took a bit of time to get used to it for starcraft 2
4) nope, i got this to taunt macbook kids -

1) Lay off the wifi, turn off bluetooth, and you can get around 8 hours. You lose a couple hours if you turn on wifi, and you can get another 30 min or so if you turn off the backlights. Take a look at the optimization thread for more details.
2) The official word is that the user can overclock the machine , but if problems arise, you will first be asked to disable the overclock to see if it solves the problem(s) that the PC is having.
3) Keyboard is fine for me, and I have big enough hands to palm a basketball. Screen size is something that you get used to really quickly. At home, I just plug the thing into an external monitor.
4) I never really got all the concerns about having a "dorky" or "nerdy" looking PC, or people trying to cover up the Alienware logo because it is too "childish." I get compliments about the PC all the time, and no one even notices the PC, even if I have pink backlights on. (well except those who knows an Alienware when they see one!)
Oh, and its nice to punk all those 15 and 17" MacBook Pro people when my 11" computer games better them them. -
Jamezuh,
You posted in Feb & its now July, so I'm assuming you probably bought one of these by now. I've read from posts that this little bad boy gets hot so placing it on your knees might give you some heat discomfort - looks like it vents out the bottom .
A good few m11x questions
