    Hello ,

I'm a bit lost with all thoses drivers around ,and i'd like to have more information because every topic seems outdated , and i don't know what is the best to do right now. I have an M11X R1

Until this morning , i used the factory driver ( nvidia XXX dunno , and intel ) , switch works great , reading every problem , i didn't want to try anything else.

This afternoon , i tried installing the 263.08 nvidia from Dell. What a bad idea ... Switch seem to work ( but i'm not sure if the card shut down , how do you know btw ? ) , but i lost performance everywhere : The windows thing have gone down , and i have something like 20FPS on LOL , everything medium ... which is amazingly bad , i was expecting performance gain , but i lost some.

So , before trying to re-install windows and having drivers everywhere : what is the best option TODAY to have good performance and switchable ? Do we really win something installing the latest driver from nvidia , but from what i read , loosing switchable ?

Thank you for your help :)

I'm using the latest Dell drivers (263.08) works perfectly. Have you tried uninstalling from safe mode and reinstalling after reboot?

Safe mode , you mean under windows ? Nope , i just download it and clic on " install " , without uninstalling the previous one ( but i make sure that the card was connected before )

I'll try to do on windows safe mode right now , thanks for the tip :) ( anyone who have infos about performance on nvidia 280.26 compared to this one & such things can post here ^^ )

Just tried to uninstall nvidia from safe mode , then reboot , install , re reboot.

I got Bluescreen during install , but the driver seems to be installed ( i'm at native resolution , and have nvidia process ) , but :

    - i can't switch ( nothing , no osd , nothing )
    - i got performance ( 5900 on 3DMark , i use to have something more like 6500-6600 , CPU overclocked enabled and 4GB ram )

I'm lost :/ Do i have to upgrad the Intel GPU also ? What is the 197.12 Nvidia " BETA NOTEBOOK driver " on dell support ( with my service tag) ?

For me the 263xx driver would not install properly unless I did a "run as" administrator. If not, it would go through the motions but usually fail. If it said "done" and restarted performance sucked - odd. Likely running on intel only.

Anyway, running the install as admin sorted it.

Didn't work for me. Heck I tried stripping out all nvidia ref before I thought to try the admin bit. As for clean install I normally do but have never had issues not doing so.

I didn't have an issue i went from the non-hybrid back to the 263 from dell.. Clean install checked and no 3d vision driver.. switching works and all..
other suggestions only install graphics driver uncheck the rest do clean install. then keep repeating process for each driver if that works. Then uncheck graphics driver and only install physx, repeat for hd audio and see if can install one at a time doing that. If it messes up when installing just one of them then you at least know what driver from the installer is causing the issue and Google from there.

Thanks for your answers. I did an alienrespawn ( the " ghost " seems to be good ) , and now i'm with the factory driver , i don't know what to do.

    Another questions :
    - Did the last drivers from Dell really improve gaming ?
    - did the VERY last Non switchable driver from nvidia improve gaming ?

If so , i would probably try something like " Windows Nvidia only with last driver for gaming " + " Linux + GMA for school "

    anybody try this ?

Yeah Rj, its the dangdest thing. I used to never bother with driver cleaners even (from those days) just always ran the install. This time no matter if clean, not clean, with or without physx/audio. I stripped out registry entries and files for nvidia and that still didnt do.

Having reinstalled the drivers a couple of times now to test stand alone ones I find no issues choosing "run as". Its the only application install I needed to do that for so figured its worth mentioning.

Did NOT have this issue with ver 19x.

    Catzoo:
gaming improvements have been reported. I think mostly it depends on the game(s) in question. Its possible that for the games you enjoy no driver will be better than another. That said, it isnt hard to try them and see.

Currently using 263 but no complaints compared to 197. Suggest unless there is a problem use the 263.

I quit using the switchable drivers in order to continually update with NVIDIA..this may be a dumb quesiton, but I did it the first time and had the same issues (slowdown wise).

Did you make sure to go into your BIOS and make your graphics settings set to discrete? If you leave it on switchable, it will instal the drivers, but wont switch over to your card and you will be stuck on the integrated one.

Obviously, the cost of this is less battery, but IMO, its worth it.
