    Hey guys,

Alan Wake just came out on Steam, and I'm wondering how well the different versions of the M11x can run it.

    Has anyone tried it out?

    Guys,

I'm sorry to bring bad news, but Alan Wake just "destroyed" my M11xR3.

Unless I am doing something wrong, the game can't run properly.

The game is set to "LOW" on the Game Settings, and the max fps I got was 28FPS.

At first I thought that it was running on the Intel GPU, but then I confirmed that it was indeed running on the nVIDIA GPU.

    Any ideas?

I just saw the min specs to run it, and it should run at decent settings, I dunno what the problem is....

I had a similar problem with the Mass Effect 3 demo, the Nvidia icon showed that it was running in the nvidia card, and it was not, because I was getting 7-8fps at 800x600 with all off, I whitelisted more exes in the folders to make it work....

    Hey Guys,

    Good news!

There is a new update for Alan Wake and things seems to be back to normal.

Now I'm getting 42FPS rather than 28FPS on "LOW".

Still if I change any settings to medium, the performance hit is quite noticeable.

The driver version I'm using is 290.53 as the latest one gives me CTD on BF3 and a lot of steam games gives me error -53.

Even though I'm playing the game on "LOW" it is still a beautiful game to look at.

    Cheers.

Huh. Looking at the minimum specs I would have expected it to run far better on the r3. Looks like no Alan wake 4 me :(

im running at 2x anti aliasing and the other thing i forget name of, plus draw distances set to max, shadows on max as well, runs well just rarely feels slow (very big areas)

Looks beautiful tho, runs good enough... cleaned my fan as i noticed this game does need some beans to run and with some dust it runs real HOT.

Also thanks for reminding me to update drivers lol... gonna do that and play some now and report back... fps drops might be due to slight overheat...

and deadboy90, it runs great on the R3... i was playing without OC as well... so yeah... graphics look awesome as well, though game itself isn't as scary as i thought(dunno how you measure that, but it doesn't make me look behind my back when gaming at night. FEAR did.)

Well, I think I spoke too soon.

The game does run at 42FPS DURING DAY TIME LEVELS.

When you reach a NIGHT TIME LEVEL it goes back to 28FPS.

    Too bad...

well i am playing with settings as follows with an overclock to 762/something on afterburner... and it runs smooth enough, at least i don't notice fps drops... cleaned the heatsink ^_^

    antialiasing 2x
    FXAA quality LOW
    Anisotropic filteringn 2x
    Shadow quality HIGH
    SSAO quality HIGH
    Backdrop quality MED
    Godray quality HIGH
    Volumetric light quality HIGH
    Both distances at MAX

can't complain game looks gorgeous and runs beautifully! (updates drivers to beta 295.somehting...)

so yeah game definitely works great, didn't expect it to be so well optimized, considering how much shadows etc. it has... lighting is awesome.

You guys both have the same exact computers and yet one of you is saying it runs bad(and giving exact fps, mind you when I say bad I just mean it doesn't run well.)and the other is saying it "feels" like its running fine. Can we get some fraps from you as well? I want to buy this game but if its running like that on the r3 my poor r2 won't be able to handle it.

Ok so minimum i got was 16 and max 27 in night level :d its like chapter 4 or something, lots of crap happening... i should lover the settings a bit i guess, though it doesn't feel like i get these frame drops...

Anyways, game works fine... just get it, i average 22 most of the time in the night level and settings are almost maxed apart from those 3... if you lower settings a bit your 335GT will run it fine and even with lower settings game looks gorgeous...

Okay, my question is is it more CPU or GPU intensive?

Its more GPU intensive. CPU averages about 60-65% on my i5, and GPU runs at 100%. It takes overclocking of the GPU very well though. I probably saw a 5-6fps gain when bumping the GPU Core up to 775MHz.

I play on a mix of medium/high settings and average a consistent 30fps. I'd think the R2 would play it alright also, but R1 would struggle.

I am using M11x R2 i7. I can play relatively smoothly on lowest setting.
Unfortunately, it starts to stutter a lot when beyond lowest setting...
Even though the graphic setting is at its lowest, it has beautiful graphics.
    It is definitely playable !!

    p.s. I did't play overclocked.

how can so many people get so different results...? for me FPS is in 20's but it is smooth enough to play without complaints... how can it not run smooth for some on lowest??? ODD

Honestly its because most people deem 30 to be smooth. Anywhere from 25-30 depending on the amount of motion blur is usually fine for me, anything lower then that looks noticeably choppy. But everyone can tolerate different things and so on however thank you for the frame count as thats the only inconclusive evidence that can be brought to the table.

Well I have an M11XR1 and I get pretty decent frame rates 20-30 at most but when it gets really busy it lags to about the 20s and stays there a little.

Sorry to came here and talk about my M17x R1, but nobody is talking about this game on the M17x sub forum. The game runs really bad on my machine, ~20-30fps running at 1920x1200, everything low. or everything high, no so big difference, only thing that improves the game is lowering the resolution. But I dont want to do that, as someone said this game "looks" smooth running at 20fps, I hope nvidia fix the SLI, this is the first game I play which runs really BAD on my R1

You could try disabling SLI and running on the 280m card, does that help at all? Wait, can you do that with the r1's?

Sure I can disable SLI on R1, but there is no need because when a game does not have any SLI profile on the video drivers, the game automatically runs using only one GPU. The fact is I can get a 5-10fps boost if I down the resolution @1920x1080, but I like to play at 1920x1200... I think i'll be able to play this game well when Nvidia release the SLI profile for this game. I can also say that some graphic option doesn't affect the performance in anything, and other affect in a strong way, ambiental OC. light quality, AA, those are better to keep them at low ..

Just letting you guys know I have an M11X R1 and it runs Alan Wake extremely well. My CPU is overclocked to 1.9ghz and my GPU is overclocked to 550/1350/850 along with 8 gigs of ram and an SSD.

Frame rate averages 30-40FPS and I've yet to see it drop below the 20's. Even when I use my external monitor @1080p the frame rate is stable and very playable.

Settings are standard plus max memory cache. It looks terrific!
