How can I change a color of the alien head on the back of the screen? And can I? On dell's site when you customize the laptop and choose the color, they're different color, but I can't find a setting anywhere?
-
-
Nah, always white, I think it just uses the backlight from the screen to light the Alienhead.
-
yoda is correct - the alienhead on the 11x is lit from the backlight of the LCD
-
Free post by agreeing with the other guys?
It just uses the screens backlighting to glow. -
Well, cool, just weird that on customization page they show them in deferent colors. Thank's guys.
-
I think they show the m15x as one of those backlight pictures. If the touchpad has light around it, then its an m15x. So its pretty misleading...
-
They have the same picture on the drivers page, which I suspect has confused more than a few people.

Interesting... never noticed that before. Can totally see where people can become confused on this.
-
Yeah.. even that little dude on Hot Tub Time Machine had an awesome backlit alienware head was green. m17x =)
-
YA i noticed it on that page when i was going thru the config. Eh not a real big deal to me i plan on turning most of the lighting off anyways.
-
In a way I'm glad to hear it's lit by the panel's backlight. I noticed in another thread that white was a tough color to "dial in" using the alienFX and I wanted to use white for that logo.
-
White has a definite blue tint to it. [EDIT] Whereas the white of the Alienhead logo on the lid is closer to a neutral white.
The Alienware logo on the bezel never quite matches the color of the rest of the components either, so all of my themes have it turned off. -
so no way to change the alien head at the back of the m11x
they told me it comes like the color i ordered the laptop with !! -
Unfortunately, it looks like they either lied to you or just didn't know what they were talking about. Probably the latter.
Like everyone else has said, it's powered by the backlighting on the screen which means it will always be white. -
I suppose a colored marker or translucent sheet could take care of this if you wanna open it up and make a mod. I'm ok with it as is though.
-
but i saw my friend's one is blue... or maybe i saw it wrongly...
-
My system came with quasar blue and the alienhead is white. I think they could have done more with the lighting customization. It would be a simple matter to fix it but they dummied it down. I doubt it saved them much money.
-
The alienhead on the front should not be a big deal because it will only get you more attention.
-
Does the fan area also light up?
Mine isn't but I remember reading on a review it did (could be mistaken). -
On the bottom through the vent, I can see my fan area lit red.
-
The fan DOES NOT light up...It only gets the light from your keyboard because the lights bleed through..
-
Fair enough, still a neat effect.
-
it does n`t matter for me the alien head color at the back of the laptop
just too bad they are putting a picture of something isn`t true .. -
Anyone try to mod it to work yet?
Can one buy the m15x one and replace it on the m11x with the m15x's one? -
m15x screen is think, iirc. I don't think there is enough clearance. Maybe a colored film? It will be very hard to modify, and equally hard to modify the color, but it could be worthwhile for some people...
-
aye.. I was thinking the front lights probably have a thin film that changes color. could purchace one of those and wire it to the same wiring to that section atleast.. /ponder.
-
I meant the say the m15x screen is thick, not think
(just in case if anybody wonders what's up with my spelling, later down the line
).
-
The only thing I'm hoping to do when my R2 arrives some time this week (and damn, waiting is hard!) is find some way to block the back light (ideally a non-warranty voiding way) as I teach film and the glowing head at the front of the room will be distracting during clips.
-
use external only display.... turn system 90deg to audience... if must: vinyl sticker (easier to remove)
-
-
Nice!
I like the red
-
Hmm, ScreenSaver do you have an R1 or an R2? Mine's an R1, May 2010 build and all I got is white. Not complaining, but yours is pretty cool.
-
Not possible - as has been stated many times over, the 11x uses the light from the display for the alienhead logo on the LID. The errors you see on the Dell site (images of the lid alienhead in different colors) are just that, marketing errors.
-
To clarify, I did mod the Alien head on the back of the screen.
I started out buying this: InsideLidTabs.jpeg
Then cut one out: insideLid1.jpg
Viewed before placement : InsideLidAlienHeadBefore.jpg
Placed it :InsideLidAlienHeadAfter.jpg
Final Results : IMG 4356.JPG / IMG 4353.JPGAttached Files:

Thank you for the explanation - reopening thread. Your first post seemed a bit misleading - didn't want folks confused thinking they could change the AlienHead lid logo via AlienFX (which is not possible).
-
Bravo, ScreenSaver. Nicely done.
-
Your welcome BatBoy. Thank you for re-opening!
By the way.. I like your Provile Picture!
-
