    Hello,
    I have an alienware m11x R1, 2 GB ram, SU4100

My computer was working fine Friday, all it has done since then is sit on my desk unplugged.

Today, I plugged in the AC adapter and nothing is showing up in the system tray. The battery Icon is not changing to the plug symbol.

    Troubleshooting:
I have removed the battery and held down the power button for 2 minutes

I have tried the lap top with and with out a battery

The laptop boots but only when the batter is in, the battery is dead so I get to the BIOS and then it dies.

When I remove the battery and plug in the AC adapter alone, the PC is receiving no power and making a buzzing noise (not a fan or a hard drive click) which only goes away when the battery is plugged back in.

When the battery is plugged in and the AC adapter is plugged in and the PC is off, the light that rings the power button is illuminated, so the AC adapter is doing something

This has lead me to the conclusion that the circuit element or hardware that lies between the external Adapter and the motherboard has probably gone bad. I have checked all of this with three AC adapters so it is not the adapter. Is there anyway to check if the MoBo is the issue? Does anyone have any advice, I'm afraid that it is tame to replace the PC. Thank you for your replies.

At a guess I would say you need to change your DC Jack - these are on a cable and easy enough to replace in the M11x - just look on eBay for a new jack.
Usually one will find if it is a motherboard problem then neither the battery nor the AC adapter will power the machine.
