Disappointed about the fact that the M11X doesn't have a dvd drive... Although DVDs are getting outdated, it feels almost necessary to have one... Thoughts?

I was a bit apprehensive about the lack of an internal optical drive when I first ordered my M11x so I ordered an external one. Turns out that I've used it probably only 4 times since I got the laptop and that's only to install games I've bought the hard copy of.

I'm actually really glad it doesn't come with one because you can pretty much use a USB in place of a CD or DVD for most tasks and it means that the space inside the M11x could be utilised by something more useful.

My drive was used for initial installations. Since then it has been in my back pack. I have not missed it at all. I do wish it had two usb ports on the back for it instead of the right side where my mouse is, or at least on the left side.

I got mine and already had a external cd drive from my mini 9. I used to carry it with me in my bag, but since buying my m11x when they first came out, I have used the drive about 6 times total.... I took it out of my bag long ago because its just extra weight that I willl never use.

But, like stated above, I do wish there were a few more usb ports on these things. Hooking up my mouse takes one, exteral disk takes another, and then my dj controller takes up the last one. I have none left for any other gear I need to plug in.... so I have a 4 port powered/unpowered usb hub.

I was hesitant at first but I never use my CD drive on my current laptop anyway. Definitely worth getting even without the drive.

I use DaemonTools. Is this better?

But unless the OP is planning on burning a zillion CDs while on the go, don't let the m11x's lack of optical drive stop you.
