ironically within a week of the ipad launch - wonder if the 'ol dell/alienware would like to throw some 11" competition cupertinos way...

irregardless of that, i'm sure some potential alienware customers will be glad to know they'll be able to get their hands on these for closer inspection soon! :D

    Doesn't surprise me.

That is like the perfect system for AW to sell at retail.

I work for BBY and I can NOT wait to sell these to all the kids who get the freaking cheap acer notebooks because they are "portable" then come back a day later to complain about the crap performance!

(Its a big problem In our town... Many high school and college kids think they are "gamers" but use Horrid machines and know nothing about computers beyond how to click on the WoW icon...)

This is a great laptop for a retail store. For specs, BB usually goes a little lower end and a bit overpriced.

    I bet it will be:

    SU4100
    2GB RAM
    250GB HDD

    for $899.00

And notice "out stock date" is 9/25/2010. Five months. Maybe AW has let them know something we don't?

Probably not. Best buy has plenty of Pentium powered laptops there, and besides, I'm guessing that they would rather have a PC with a decent price point on hand vs having a $1000 machine that would be harder to sell.

Usually "Pentium Dual Core" which people think are Core 2 Duo. In most cases they are just slightly crippled versions of Core 2 Duo. Although with the Core iX series released, they may have phased out most of their Pentium laptops.

Just got back from Best Buy where they just got the m11x in today. Looks like they only had one setup available (no options).

    Specs
    SU7300
    4gb Ram
    250g 7200rpm HD
    $899

Could not tell if it had Bluetooth or WWAN antenna

That's a nice price! On Dell web you get the same spec just with SU4100 for that. Unless you are using any discounts, that is.

Holy cow! That is an awesome price! Pretty much my specs, except I have a 320GB. I got mine for ~$830 shipped, but still, online that would cost over $1000. Wonder if they're going to drop the prices online.

Retail stores... Remember they also have to deal with returns or warranty issues. So the laptop has to be pretty stable to sell. Otherwise it is a nightmare of returns (what was that gateway performance laptop that got returned a lot last year or 2008?)

BB could probably sell any hardware for around the 1k mark. Beyond that it gets to be a very tough sell. The truth is that other brands and even Dell's come equipped with decent gpu's and cpu's but are throttled back to control heat or performance to ensure longevity. Alienware is one of the few companies that allows OC and will support it under Warranty.

I will admit that I feel a sense of let down that every BB will sell the m11x... It makes you feel less special to have one. When you had to wait 2 - 6 week to get it and it has solid performance. Now you wait 10 minutes and whallah... it's in your hands.

    Oh well...

Well you would have had to wait 6 weeks, then wait 10 minutes (or 20 or 30 depending on staff) to get it from BB. But yeah, seems like it won't be as "elite" as other AW laptops.

The will likely go black as it is the "safer" color and will appeal top a wider targeted audience. There was a poll a while back on here and the majority of individuals chose the black M11x.

Just saw one at a Best Buy close to me. That is one awesome notebook, I can confirm it was the SU7300 model with 4GB RAM. The sales guy I spoke with said they're selling them right now, I'm really tempted to pick one up tomorrow to replace my current notebook. Hmmm

I have to tell you the quality of this machine is bar none the best you'll ever see. I wasn't expecting it to be so solid. For $899 you can't beat the deal and won't regret the purchase.

Will someone who has seen the M11X in a Best Buy store please reply with where you have seen it?

I am dying to pick one of these up but it has to be from BB since I have a stack of gift cards to burn.

    Cheers!!

My friend texted me today that the Best Buy in Minneapolis Minnesota has them, but when I asked him the price he said it was just over $1,000. Maybe he missed something but I hope the $899 price tag is the correct one, because if it's over $1,000 it's the exact same as buying it online.

I've called a few Minneapolis BBs and have not found one that has the M11x.

I also looked at the BB weekly circular for 4/11 and no mention was made of the M11x.

Here's hoping the 4/11 date is real and that it magically appears on the website to purchase at the stroke of midnight on Saturday

They for sure had it - it likely was just a display model until they actually receive stock for sale on 4-11 but I have a picture of it on my phone! :D

I just hope the $899 price point is accurate, if it's $1050 or so I'll likely just hold off as I've been doing.

Your reply gives me confidence that 4/11 will be the day.

I'll take one for 1100 just so I can use the 900 bucks worth of BB cards that are burning a hole in pocket :)

I wondered in BB today and noticed they had the m11x for sale in Knoxville, TN. The thing is tiny but I think it looks a heck of a lot better in person than it does on the website. I've got a small asus laptop or I might have been inclined to grab one of those suckers.

The only thing that didn't look right about the m11x was that the keyboard lights are very hard to tell. They seemed very faded with with any type of lighting in the room. All the other lights look great though.

Heh, call me a jerk but one of the main reasons I went with the m11x was because I thought it would be a rare thing to call around.

Shame it's going on retail for the "bestbuy" consumers.....you know the ones.......240m 1gig > 9800gt 512m because of the 1gig memory.

pic of a best buy display unit and its price tag in my last post. ;)

it’s the same price ($899) as spec'd in the thread title at every location i’ve been to thus far. as i also mentioned, watched a customer (after some conversing) purchase it for that price (and an additional $99 one year accidental damage plan) and exit the best buy with a nice new alienware M11x and a huge grin of anticipation! :D

now, why microcenter is $180 more for a bump to a 320gb hdd from a 250gb hdd is anybody’s guess... :p

Micro Center does like to introduce something at a high price and a week or two later drop it alot to make it "on sale"

With tax factored in, that's only a $90 difference. $899 is a pretty killer pricepoint for the PC though.

Thanks for the pic, but has anyone noticed the battery life the BB tag is quoting. While "Up to 5 hrs 35min" is good :) , it isn't the 8.5hrs :D touted on the AW/Dell site. I wonder if the battery is the same as the one on the AW/Dell site. Best Buy did this to the Asus 1005HA netbook last year.

Anyone who has bought the one from Best Buy check out the battery for us.

    Thx

Oh you , I might have to fight you for it today. Hehe.

The Best Buy right across from Springfield Mall has two and the Micro Center down 50 has sixteen of them. I'm gonna see if they can price match at Micro Center so I don't have to make the drive. Yippee. Yay for great timing. :D

EDIT: Ew. Micro Center is charging a $55.00 premium over ordering it online through Dell while you save $100ish through Best Buy according to their specs. Yuck. No wonder I'm returning something to MC. SMH. They better price match...

Let me know if they price match... my buddy is really on a "want to buy new laptop" mission today and as such I'm getting dragged into it - so after work if MC would price match i'll head down there and pick one up, otherwise I'll just wait and look at them at Best Buy come Sunday.
