I bought mine last night. Still getting set up.

Does anybody think it might be worthwhile trying to use the BestBuy price to convince a sales rep to get a $100 discount while ordering directly from Dell? Or is this a bad idea? -
I agree with what you said about the keyboard backlighting on the demo model...it's washed out no matter what color you select...
On the plus side, under the blazing bright lights of Best Buy, the screen wasn't as washed out as I had been led to believe it would be from online comparisons with the Sony Z's screen...
Played with the RE5 benchmark...it ran the bench at 1360x768 and Motion Blur (no AA) without ever falling below 30 fps...cranking up AA really cut performance though...on the high end AA setting, it couldn't get above 20 fps...
The price is $899 and the Cedar Bluff (Knoxville, TN) store had two in the box ready to go out the door...both the demo and the (2) boxes were black with the specs that others have already listed...
Very solidly built, incredible looking laptop...the top is a fingerprint magnet, but not the inside...and I'm surprised that the laptop doesn't have a latch, but the hinges are tight...
Would have picked one up today, but I was set on Lunar Shadow and wanted the WWAN...I'll have to think about it just a bit now... -
I just stopped by 2 Best Buys in the Chicago west suburbs. The one in Aurora, IL on RT 59 had 3 units on the security rack. One unit was already blessed by Geek Squad (removing all junk apps for addt'l $69). The other two were in original AW boxes.
I'm not sure if the store staff is stupid or what, but they scanned every bar code and could not find a match in their system. With that, they also told me they wouldn't sell it to me.
In addition, the units had 320GB HDD in them. Everything else was the same...upgrade processor and 4gb memory.
The second store in Oswego, IL did not have them in plain site. This store is also smaller in regards to inventory. -
Thanks OP for the heads up, I just came back from BB with my M11x. It doesn't come with Bluetooth, oh well I'll crack it open and put in my own.
I plugged my service tag into the Dell warranty status check. Interesting thing that it says 559 days left on the warranty, and 469 days left on XPS technical support. Keeping the extra 194 days of warranty may or may not happen, I didn't register it yet, and I'm not going to. Better chance of keeping the extra 194 days.
Another interesting thing, in the original system configuration tab, it lists my CPU as "INFORMATION..., WINRE-BASE, Pentium M Dothan, 1.86GHZ, 2 MEGB, 533FSB..., MB-PTN"That's what I had in the XPS M1210 I had back in what 2005
Gotta cancel my Dell order now!
BTW the specs says it's 8 cell battery. I think BB chose to under quote the battery life to minimize complaints, which is always smarter than over quote. -
Given the price at Best Buy, my guess is that they will have a lot of cancellations. Being such a niche laptop, you know everyone is checking forums like these... -
Glad that I bought the silver one, the black color does'nt look that good.
when I saw that they had it at Ceader Bluff I took the time to over clock the cpu in bios and switch to the invida card. They still need to update the WEI though. -
Still have yet to see any come up in the San Antonio, Texas Area checked about 4 locations... Talked to one guy and asked him if they would have them Sunday and according to him they aren't even planning on selling them, that if they did he would know (whatever). Talked to another guy and said that they could be getting them on sat. because they get shipments in Tue, Thurs, and Sat. so im keeping my fingers crossed
-
I've bought MANY Dell computers (my guesstimate $50k worth in the past few years) for work and my own use. Not once have I paid any restocking fee, Dell Home or Dell SB. -
-
Buahahahaha. Made out like a bandit!!!
...not only did they price match Best Buy, they didn't even call to confirm! >_< YMMV. Also, I had two dead Asus G73's I went through, so that also helped my cause. =D So $899.99 for a su7300/4gb/320gb setup WITH BLUETOOTH = win freaking win.
Good luck, guys! I was just really fortunate today. =) -
So I called 3 BB and asked if they could check for me searching both m11x and item number vikingrinn gave (thank you btw) and same response that they don't have anything in theirs or any other local BB with that item :\ getting worried :\ hahahah
-
just in case that item number doesn't pull it up in their system for whatever reason, these are listing as dell (not alienware) so if they're just searching for 'alienware' it won't show up. this happened to a few associates i had spoke to when first hearing of these coming to best buy.
if they search their system for 'M11x' in the 'contains' field (as opposed to 'begins with', as shown in that picture on the first page) that will at least give them the item in order to locate stock in your area. if not, ask them if they would look for it in the next closest region to yours as i can't believe these are pretty much everywhere else now, but NOT in texas?
-
I'm guessing you're talking about Microcenter?
I was driving, was going to MC to see if they'll PM BB. Then, last minute changed my mind, headed straight to BB, thinking they'll at least verify specs (250GB vs 320GB) and shoot it down. Damn should have tried. I want the Bluetooth.
I'll go back tomorrow to try! -
cookinwitdiesel Retired Bencher
That is a considerable plus. Did you go to the Fairfax one? If so can you pm which rep - I know them all, used to work there. -
For $1079 I can only imagine the BB one has a smaller battery and no bluetooth. That might almost make up for the $180 price difference once you consider the 250GB vs 320GB as well.
-
250 vs 320GB really cost them (Dell) nothing. I actually wish they would stick to the base 160GB drive at BB or MC to save at least another $50 or so - I'm gonna put my own SSD in there anyway.
I'm waiting for my Steam games to load, typing my my M1340, questioning if I really *need* this M11x.. I really weighs about the same as the M1340. The M1340 has a better keyboard, and the screen is significantly brighter than the M11x.
Of course, nobody *needs* an M11x
My M11x is crashing with OC enabled. If I can get MC to PM BB, I'm returning this and hope another from MC will OC without problem. -
as for why it's cheaper through best buy than anywhere else atm is speculation, but i would bet its simply that dell/alienware want their product out there in consumers hot little hands for some 'show and tell' and best buy has the purchasing, distribution, and vast retail footprint to help support such a golden marketing opportunity.
hopefully it means dell/alienware will eventually be updating the pricing on their web site too! -
So if its $899 how much did it come out to with tax more or less? I'm really hoping to pick one up today Saturday.... thats if they get any in where I am which im STILL hoping and crossing my fingers for
-
I wonder if you can extend the warranty through Dell... -
mmkay well I believe its 8.25% here in San Antonio so I read an article I believe it was on Toms Hardware about in 3 or so months Dell will start offering options to change cpu to i3 and gpu will include optimus.... is that really worth waiting for as far as cpu is concerned I mean is it THAT much better or just slightly?
-
Question to ask is, given what your going to do with the laptop, is it going to have an impact on your day to day activities? Plus it's all just rumors at this point. I say buy and enjoy. Don't play the waiting game. Something is always going to come out thats better.

I can only assume it's because of those damn little kiosk they have in the mall.

My m11x has been up all night downloading MW2 multiplayer (bad connect at the girlfriend's). CPU's been OC'd and running twelve hours straight, no hitch. I see where GPU switching is wonky, but it's totally workable. Bluetooth is working. Oh yeah, I would try price matching this @ Micro Center to BB (again YMMV). The box sealed has no specs whatsoever and when you call they check the price at point of sale computers usually, so they just see price but no specs. Again, good luck! This laptop zips, no need to wait for a refresh IMO depending on your needs.

+1
it may very well be that a product freshening is announced at the six month point (june); but as was the case with the product shipment after the initial january M11x announcement, it may be a couple months after the M11x refresh is announced before the actual product ships. then a few months after that product has shipped, its CES time again... wash, rinse, repeat! lol -
Thanks to folks on this thread, I was able to purchase one last night in Louisville, KY of all places..
The key is to ask the rep to search for the 973 item (or SKU) #.
Pretty fun little machine. It will be interesting to see if BB.com has it online for sale tomorrow. However, i'm just glad to have one. Downloading MW2 and Sup Com 2 as we speak.. -
So I called about 5 BB today some even in the next city over and still none of these have even heard of this computer and think that it does not exisit even after I gave them the SKU/Item # Well this isn't looking to swell anyone in the Texas area with any luck?

Ironically AW is based in Texas too lol

Well Best Buy has updated their site to include alienware so far there are two models there the M15x and M17x but on the manufacturers listing with the number 3 in brackets beside Alienware maybe one more will be added.
For the two already there I expected better prices especially for the specs listed.

Signature Event @ Dell - m11x SU7300/4GB/160GB HDD/Blue Tooth/2 year basic warranty $999

I just picked up a M11X at my local Best Buy here in Tucson. I recieved a flyer in the mail today, if you spend $500.00 you get a $50.00 gift card, or $1,000.00, you get a $100.00 gift card. The coupon starts April 15th, so I would take my receipt back and do a paper return to get my $100.00. Tax does not count so I bought a external DVD burner for $67.29, the Lappy was $899.69, so I need to buy a game or something for $44.00 on the 15th to get my $100.00 gift card
. I also used $10.00 of reward points, factor in the points I made on the deal about $25.00 worth, I think I came out good. Total cost after gift card and reward points figured in including tax $842.59
They had two in stock since last weekend. No buyers, except me -
Here is a new link so you can see both and this one is working as at time of this post.

Saw the m11x in Best Buy yesterday...slightly disappointed about the HDD size, lack of WWAN, lack of Bluetooth and the color...
However, with a 10% off coupon, the laptop cost me $884.92 including tax (and no shipping)...today, I turned up the speakers and watched and listened to the RE5 benchmark at the store and I was sold...good (maybe not great, but good) sound...and the fan wasn't near as annoying to me as some suggested...
Just picked up one of the two boxes available and checked out...on top of 10% off an already great price, I also used my BB credit card so it's 18-months same-as-cash...and with an earlier purchase of an iMac for my wife, I'm back in the RZ Silver club...and the purchase got me $15 in reward coupons...(so you could reduce the total from $885 to $870...)
We'll see if the $50 gift certificate comes this way, too...but BB is notorious for not allowing coupon/deal stacking...
Alas, I'll have to upgrade my HDD (but I still come out ahead pricewise) and I'll have to put in a Bluetooth radio card if I find I can't live without it...and the black color will means lots of cleaning of the lid, but what a great deal...and NO interaction with Dell sales reps...
Now, I just have to open the box and see if Alienware is going to make me a laser-etched nametag (the true reason, other than AlienFX, that people buy Alienware)...
By the way, the model number on the box and the receipt is AM11X-2719CSB and the SKU on the box and receipt is 9732759... -
IwantmyMTV right now the 17" version doesnt say available online only and when I first posted neither of them said online only.
Anyhow just sitting back and watching best buy.
Oh yeah we both have similar gripes i.e. no bt, relatively small HDD size and also for me the processor choices. -
-
So went to Microcenter to price match BB, sales guy called BB and told me that BB didnt even sell the m11x, despite the fact that I saw it earlier today. He was willing to sell me an open box m11x for $970, somehow I couldnt justify $70 for the extra 120gb and bluetooth... so off to best buy I went. When I got there I was told there are no m11x's in the entire state. Sales guy believed it would go on sale next week... but I wouldnt trust a thing anyone at best buy says.
So I think god is telling me I dont want this laptop. Anyways I'm sure that open box will be there tomorrow... In hindsight I should have negotiated down the open box to $900, but the sales peon guy didnt look like he wanted to bother the manager. Oh well. Microcenter tomorrow, maybe. -
I bought an open box Macbook Pro a little while back from MC. They let me open it and inspect it. It looked brand spanking new. Nice thing about buying open box is if you decide to return it, no restocking fee.
Based on their $1079 price, whoever returned it paid $162 in restocking fee (unless somehow he/she got out of it). Tell them to pass you that $162 as a discount and you'll take it -
So I visited two more BB in the west Chicago burbs. Both didn't have m11x in stock.
I went back to the one at rt59 in Aurora which had one in stock, but not priced in the system. I provided them of the print out from this thread (RSS and the on the shelf picture). After trying to ring it up, the sales rep noticed that both pictures had a Dell SKU that registered different that the model he had in hand.
WHAT I KNEW a head of time. The picture posted and product code is for the smaller HDD model for $899. The one he had in his hand was for 320GB.
They were going to get the manager to figure it out but I knew it wasn't going to fetch the same price since the specs were off and the model # was off.
So off I go to MC. I saw that they had 10 in stock and I also knew they had a price of $1079 or so. I pulled out the pictures from BB and asked them to price match. 2 minutes later...they came back and said no. Product code didnt match and HDD size didnt match.
So...I don't think I want to get a bigger HDD for almost $200 more than what BB WILL have it for. Not worth the money.
So like the previous poster....God doesn't want me to get this m11X yet....
SO...anyone willing to buy a $899 model from a valid BB and turn around and sell it to me at the cost...plus shipping and a few $$ for the gas and time you spent??
Yeah..I could order it from Dell and wait 2 weeks and get it completely customized by color and AW logo stuff oh..and etched owner's plate. Pay
$50 for the price difference and try to get them to ship it for free.......
But that isn't as much fun as finding the right one on the shelf for $899. -
Anyone know if the 10% birthday coupons will work on laptops? -
Well it is on the site but as far as my location is concerned (which I like to think is a pretty big city) all 5 BB say unavailable perhaps they have yet to update that information?
-
Of the 5 stores in my area it only shows 1 store as having it, so they are probably up to date but hasn't had any shipped to them.
-
Best Buy's site has the link now - go to their site - search for:
9732759 -
Really tempted on this, cheaper than to configure on Dells website, a store about 10 miles from me has one.... no Bluetooth is a bummer, and the warranty I'm sure isn't as good as going through Dell.... hard choice. If there really was a 10% off coupon like someone said that makes it a bit easier though.
