My M17x has integrated as well :)

Usually get a blu ray and a half out of it (and that is only one of my two batteries)

Its really about what *I* need out of a laptop.

    I need very portable. I need compute power...virtualize..media editing...gaming.

BAD - Integrated graphics cards are too weak in my book.
BAD - anything 13/14" + is really cumbersome; i just don't carry only a laptop in my backpack

    Just my 2 pennies...

For guys that has this M11x from bestbuy, how is the fan noise, I understand its loud during gaming , what about under NORMAL power profile , PLUGGED IN when idle or surfing and listening to music?

Point of me asking is I was one of the first adopter of M11x when they released months ago and was one of the first batch to receive it. But the problem was mine fan was running HIGH and low and HIGH and low even when IDLE and it was loud sharp noise (not broken) and way more noticeable than my gaming desktop with core i7 and ATI 5870. I returned it because I could not bear the noise.

Yes you read it right, my M11x few months ago would alternate between high and low fan speed just sitting idle doing nothing and absolutely annoying loud sharp fan noise....I still loved it, so want to see what's you guys take and if it is not loud anymore.

PS: The loud fan phenomenon only occurs while plugged in, while unplugged, it's absolutely silent...and under one of either laptop or pc mag or notebook review, one of them also noted their testing unit's fan spun to high gear for no apparent reason idling and the noise got quite annoying...

see this link for the same problem I had

    http://www.alienwareniche.com/forums/showthread.php?p=50118

    TIA

I am not noticing a fan noise. Its actually quiet to me. I just play Wow on it with it plugged and not plugged in.

I also disabled the Alienware Service that supposedly controls the fan and eats up 10% cpu when idle.

Hey, thanks for replying. Sorry to repeat myself but so you disable alienware service,,,whicch process is that or how did you disable it? and so you are just leaving it up to the mobo to control the fan? and when its plugged in just idle or surfing your fan doesnt' rev up high for no reason or noisy at all?

Thanks...I really love it but loud fan is my tender spot.....I want quiet...

"At least" implies "equal to or greater than" with a preference leaning toward "greater than." You, my firend, want an M15X. It exists. Why are you even discussing the M11X if you want something 14" or larger and they exist?

Me, OTOH, I can not even fit a 13.3" notebook in my motorcycle tank bag. The M11X is bursting at its seems, so it's the perfect combination of size and power for my purpose. My motorcycle is my only transportation. It's a sportbike, so the only storage is what I wear or bring with me, hence, my magnetic tank bag goes everywhere. It saves me the trouble of carrying a backpack everywhere.

Don't forget DDR2 vs. DDR3, Firewire, HDMI+DisplayPort, USEFUL lights (backlighting helps), powered USB port even when turned off (no more running your battery dry by keeping your laptop on just to charge something else little), etc.

Currently, I am only on this forum on the IGP and the fan is blowing (laptop hasn't been unplugged yet)...I have not installed any fan/temperature monitoring software at this point so I can't tell you HIGH or LOW...

I was running L4D2 last night on the nVidia chip and when I finished, I swapped to the IGP without re-booting to allow games to download from D2D...

The fan was cycling OFF/ON during some YouTube clips this morning and now, for some reason (temperature I imagine, but I don't know what's driving up the temp) the fan has been running continuously for 10 minutes or so...

But the noise is by no means annoying...slight fan whine with a low-pitch airflow and the airflow trumps the fan whine...you have to listen very closely to hear the fan whine...the laptop was right beside my bed all night long with the fan cycling and neither my wife or I noticed it...and she hates everything and anything to do with laptops and the Princess and the Pea fable was based on her...so it passed the wife-hates-noise-while-sleeping-and-hates-laptops-in-the-bedroom test...

And there are no gaps between the glass and case on the display...however, there are < 1 mm gaps between the sides of the case and the section that holds the display and glass...I'm no manufacturing engineer, but it seems like it would have been impossible (eg, expensive) to eliminate those gaps...they won't contribute to dust inside the glass on the display...

I'm extremely happy with the machine...my only complaint is color (black) which was a conscious decision on my part to save money and time (and frustration with Dell) at Best Buy...also, the screen could use some more contrast (this is my first WLED panel), but the dreaded reflectivity for me isn't really an issue...finally, the keyboard is awkward for touch typing (but other than this forum, I don't imagine myself typing a whole lot on it and it's becoming easier by the minute)...and those dang tiny arrow keys are a bit annoying for large hands and Street Fighter 4 and M.A.M.E...

    Brilliant laptop...brilliant price...

Back to RE5 and Lost Planet...

I ended up buying the M11x new at best buy. I must have purchased the last one at the store because they show no stock today. Also most stores in my area do not have this computer for sale. So maybe there is some truth in this laptop not being sold by Best Buy anymore.

Anyways, havent had a chance to enjoy it but it looks to be great. I especially appreciate that there wasnt much bloatware on the computer!

Most stores never carried Alienware to begin with, though some of us expected that to change with the M11x.

If they sell it online, you should be able to order online and pickup in store in 1-2 days.

Hey, I've always done it that way.

There are things to do besides game on a laptop though. For example, had I followed through and actually received my M11x, it would have primarily been for use in classes - not gaming.

Central Florida is an odd mix, some stories have Alienware sections (desktop and M17x) and others do not. Oddly enough the ones with an Alienware section didn't carry the m11x. Go figure.

The two closest Best Buys to me have M17x, some Aurora desktop, and the OptX 21.5" monitor. None of them have the M11x yet. I almost picked up one of those monitors, but ended up getting a Samsung PX2370. Haven't tried it out yet, but I'm hoping to get my desk cleaned up and have all my stuff setup tonight.

i've been thinking, just thinking. we shouuld help each other save money on bestbuy m11x by for example- A buy m11x with rewardzone card get $20 certificate($20 when u spend $500); A sell that certificate to B when B buy m11x with rewardzone card; then B sell his certificate to C and C buy m11x with rewardzone card... and everyone lived happy after.

That's like giving my money away because I'm trusting someone else to do the same. Why not just spend your own to begin with and keep the return? KISS principle. Also, I didn't know about the cert when I bought mine. :(

apply for reward zone master card or finance card at your local bestbuy. if you get approve, just return your m11x then rebuy. one thing still borthers me, it is really a bad timming that m11x didn't come to bestbuy earlier when bing.com had 10% cash back on bestbuy.com purchases.

Yeah, I read about the deal when it was first mentioned in this thread, but that was after I bought it. Also, it wasn't on Best Buy's website yet and I split payment on 5 different types (and failed to use my gift cards!), none of which have enough available to buy again without waiting for full return credit days or weeks later. I put $300 two debit cards (my cash was in two different checking accounts), $300 on an old HSBC BestBuy card, $200 on one credit card, and the rest on another. :( At least I used traditional Reward Zone.

I agree with you. It's the size that I first noticed about this laptop, always liked the size of a netbook but was at the same time always disappointed with the preformance and the keyboard.

At 11.4 inches wide this will set on the barbie jet tray tables on the small planes and still have room to move your wireless mouse on RiseOf Nations and long battery life.

So since this model comes with no bluetooth, is there anyway to buy an aftermarket upgrade and install it yourself? or would you have to get the bluetooth usb dongle

I got the Dell 365 card and installed it myself. It requires half of the laptop to be disassembled. Piece of cake to me, 20 minutes fully reassembled, and I'm very careful (rubber gloves and all as not to put finger printer all over the inside). I probably put it back together better than they did at the factory. One of the screws was striped at the factory

It's nothing hard at all. You can get the complete disassembly instruction from Dell. Some will say it's not worth the hassle or the risk, but as rarely as I use it I refuse to have a dongle sticking out of it.

If you do decide to tackle it, it requires a screw to secure the BT card to the mobo. I happen to have a screw that fits. It didn't come with the card.
