I have not see any thread for external speakers for the m11x so I just decided to start one.
Well, just comment about the speakers you are using,if you reccomend them and why, maybe some you want to buy, some good gaming/music/movie/bass external speakers, etc...
Btw, Im using a JBL SPOT external Speakers (I bought them 4 years ago and for less than 100 dllrs or so(Actually I bought them for my iPod, but now im using them for this computer)) and they have worked very well

I also use a USB DAC to connect to my Thiel CS7's in my main system if I want to get crazy in the living room.

    Tiny computer-Giant Speakers....perfect combination.

The speakers you use depend entirely on your budget. In the ~$120-$150 price range, I'd have to say that the Klipsch ProMedia 2.1's are the winner.

But then again, I'd say that with a small 11.6" inch screen, go with a *nice* set of headphones or canalphones. You can get a decent pair starting at about $150. The clarity, detail, and intimacy of headphones totally pulls me in to the screen, and makes the laptop feel so much larger than it is.

i cant really see why you would need an external speaker. Also i use headphones if things get hard to hear or i need to hear stuff really crystal clear. (Dr. dre beats studios..white ones).

Yea, i agree that when you need to hear something really clear, or you only dont want to hear some anoying sounds like your mother screaming, or the sound of your brother's TV, you use headphones.
Now, If im not playing im listening to music+Fb+Msn , and I do really like to hear the music, or the bass from some games from an external speaker, it gives you a gaming/music feeling. ;)
Also, such a tiny machine looks really awesome and powerful with a big external speaker(s). :D

in terms of external speakers i still find x-mini the best suit for this machine. firstly they are really portable and dont use the power off your laptop even if you bring them out with you. and pricing wise is really reasonable given the product quality both build and sound. and the theme suits the machine completely. "small speakers but big on sound" just like the machine small in size but huge on the power coming from the little beast :)

Of course I know it has integrated speakers, but I mean, I would like to get a better sound quality and well, when you have some external speakers for your ipod you are not using, and you have a nice computer, ¿why not to plug them to the computer :p?

lol i mean i understand but if your laptop comes with speakers theres no need for externals. I mean unless you really want to hear every beat / all the bass ...invest in headphones. how much better sound quality will those 100$ external speakers give you compared to the one that is built with the laptop..

    invest in headphones.

question..is the speakers that came with the laptop not loud enough? i still dont get the point..

Well, the sound on my speakers are cleaner than the one of the laptop and of course louder (And i do really love to fell/hear the bass :D), and I have to give my speakers a use, so its to plug them to the computer, or to leave them in a box.
Anyways I will buy later better headphones that the ones actually im using, any reccomendations ?

Yes, I agree... the laptop speakers on the M11x are great for being laptop speakers. But it isn't hard to find speakers that are better than those.

As for your headphones - what is your budget? Do you prefer full-sized headphones, or something smaller so that they are easier to travel with? Do you want them to be noise-isolating, where they block out other sounds around you, or do you not care about that?

    You must be kidding?
Are you really suggesting that there is no advantage to using better speakers for any reason?
Further your solution is to use headphones to get better sound?

That is simply hard to accept.

Also some of us do not use headphones.
They bug me to no end and I have been in the Audio business since before there was any video to go with it.
I just find headphones annoying and dis-orienting and can not use the for any length of time.

But again the notion that the tiny speakers inside anything can compare to any decent external speaker just boggles my mind.

I do think the M11x speakers are much better than average for internal laptop speakers but come on.......

I guess one good point is that you will be saving some money not getting externals.

I agree with you, that external speakers are almost always better than laptop speakers, as long as you aren't using crappy $20 speakers.

But I must say - that yes, headphones are definitely the way to get better sound, once you get good headphones. When you get audiophile-quality headphones (Etymotic, Shure, Sennheiser, Grado, AKG, Beyerdynamic, Audio Technica, etc), then you get sound quality that rivals a speaker setup that costs 5x-10x more. Audiophile-level headphones are defintely the way to go if you need private, portable, affordable, high-quality audio

I am not arguing the quality of the headphone experience or the differences between brands of headphones.
I sell AKG and Sennheiser and have sold Shure and Stax and Grado and many others.
I just can not stand wearing headphones.
Also no headphone can produce actual bass in a room like you experience when at a live music event, that is sort of the point of them.

But more than all of this, the original question here is about External Speakers not headphones so why does it even matter in this thread?

Well, the only 3 things I care on headphones are:
    1-Full sized
2-Nice bass (yea, I have a trauma with the bass :D), but not alot because then I feel like my head will blow.
    3-EXCELLENT audio quality

The ones im using at the moment are this ones (I know they are not the best ones, but well I live in mexico and they cost me like 500 pesos(39.12 dllrs), I got them for like 300 pesos (23.47 dllrs) :D
