I bought Dell's U3011 a few months ago, running it exclusively off my Alienware M11x (R1). I love it. But this thread isn't about my love for the U3011. It's about Dell's super outdated video driver not supporting 2560x1600. The laptop is sold with a video card advertised as being capable of driving 2560x1600. When installed, NVIDIA's own driver DOES drive 2560x1600. But installling NVIDIA's driver disable's the integrated Intel graphics. I've had to use NVIDIA's drivers to enable 2560x1600 and now my battery life is terrible.
I like to believe I am well informed about my video driver troubleshooting, but maybe someone out there can tell me it's just my computer. The only data I have on compatibility between the M11x and U3011 is my own experience. I haven't found any record of troubleshooting the M11x's 2560x1600 output over Display Port on the whole of the internet. Short of compiling a custom graphics driver, does anyone else have experience driving 2560x1600 over Display Port with the M11x R1?
I'm going to have to find the time to call Dell, soon. I've been experiencing this for months, but I decided to share my experience today.
