Hey guys, I recently purchased an m11x R2. This is the i5 model and it has been idling at 70c and when put under full load it goes above 90c. These temperatures seem way too hot. I have flashed the GPU overvolt bios and have my CPU overclocked to 160 multiplier. Any ideas what's causing such high temps? What can I do to lower them?

    Clean the vents and repaste.

    This.

The R2 is the hottest running model out of all 3, the fact that it's been overclocked obviously don't help with temps.

Compressed air into the rear vent short sharp bursts and a ton of dust should come out.

If the compound is degraded just go onto youtube for the M11x I watched a couple before repasting and it is very straight forward.

Repasted and cleaned the vents. Makes a HUGE difference. I'm idling at around 48c now. Thanks for the info!

I have never been a fan of spraying air into the air vents and after disassembling my G73 and removing a cake layer of dust where the fan meets the fins, i'm even more skeptical about its effectiveness. Having seen what i pulled out, there's no way i would have wanted to blow bits of that back through the fins and into the chassis.

You only need to remove dust every 6 months really, take the effort and take it apart and proper clean it. Spraying the dust out of the fins may be a tempoirary fix, but that dust is just building up somewhere else.

Ahh excellent! I didn't even repate my G73 - i just disassembled it and removed the dust (i had no thermal paste handy so no repaste) and has a temp drop of 10 degrees!

Hi guys I am experiencing the same problem with my r3! Should i blow the compressed air directly into the back of the vent? Or should i take it apart? Also does anyone know any guides fo dissasembling without voiding the warranty?

    thanks

Try the easy option first bursts of air into the vents if that works you do not have a blockage if not you really need to get inside and remove the blockage and while you are in you might as well repaste.

Cleaning or upgrading your internal components will not void your warranty.

Here's a tear down video for the M11x, you can use it as a guide to disassemble and clean your computer.

Place your computer in a soft surface when you have to turn it upside down to avoid scratches on the LCD back cover.

Here are some more tips on how to manage overheating.

That sounds right. I have a 2 year old M11xR2,

I idle in upper 40s and get low to mid while browsing internet and watching videos.

Diablo 3 on ultra low stresses it to 80+ though.
