Interesting! I didn't get any other GPU options offered when I ordered today. I just got the default, DDR3 GT 540M. Maybe it's just a Canadian feature?

Also now you can't configure the new Dell M11X R3 anymore on the dell website.. it redirects you.
Nevermind, found a different link and it worked. -
-
I had the options of 1 gb and 2gb gt430 wich I assume was a typo on the canadian site and I got the 2gb for free were as now its 100$ more. so, yea im pretty confused
-
The press release from Dell today said the m11x has a GT540M, however when I ordered on the U.S. website, it only gave me the options of a 1 or 2GB GT430M. I ordered the computer, and the 430M appeared on my invoice as well.
The only question - is the press release wrong or the website? -
It's the 540M.

Ordered with i7 and 2GB GT 540M
It shows at 2GB GT 430M on my invoice.
I called Alienware technical support, the tech said it's a typo. I'll get GT 540m -
How do you order individual parts, such as the motherboard though? -
I really wish the internal HD streaming found in the m14 was part of the m11x r3! The little guy could solve almost all of my computing issues.
-
I am perfectly aware the processor alone cannot be changed.
Unfortunately, people misunderstood my statement.
I am afraid that upgrading motherboard will void your warranty.
I don't think this will be the case as long as you have your original motherboard. -
Like many of you, I'm feeling some initial defensiveness regarding my R2 now that the R3 as come out. And yet, it's hard for me to feel THAT much buyer's remorse when a) the R3's cost significantly more than the R2 did before they took it off Dell.com, and b) we don't know how the R3 will handle overclocking.
The CPU on my i5 R2 is stable at 180MHz base clock, and my GPU has responded well to overclocking since the .95v BIOS mod. Much like R1 owners that are overclocking to catch the R2, I feel pretty pumped that we're able to push our systems to remain competitive with the latest model.
I really, really can't wait until we start hearing some real world battery life and game impressions. My concern right now is that Dell/Alienware may have put out a revamped system that performs marginally better at stock, but that can't be overclocked well and offers no battery gain. That would be a value killer in my book. I feel like I got a steal when I got in on the $636 i5 R2 deal some months ago, because overclocking has been so painless. -
If the ports and motherboard shape is the same which by the pics it looks the same, I don't really see a problem swapping boards out.
But i do see one problem the price might be alot sense the board is pretty much everything.
If its under 500$ i would think it be a nice upgrade, But than again is it worth the performance what the r3 gives over the r2 and r1, By the looks of it doesn't look that great of a upgrade and my oc r2 is beating it on 3dmark 06 which the r3 gets 7450 or something like that, And right now i get almost 8700points sure they used a a bit more higher res which is x1024 vs 768 so i would say my m11x r2 would be around 8300 too 8500 at that res which i will test tonight.
I was going too get a refund on my r2 which i would've had too pay like 370-400$ more than what i paid for my r2 which is 820shipped but i don't think it would be worth it for that extra money. Which could go on upgrades torwards my desktop which is my main machine anyways. -
it even looks as if my R1 can keep up with the R3
and when i get it to 2ghz, even better. i would rather get the absolute most outa my system then upgrade just couse something newer comes out.
everyone should take note: newer is not always better. -
-
I remember how some R1 users said that there is no real difference between R1 and R2.
I tried to tell them that there are difference in the performance but they won't even hear about it. -
I had ordered the R2 i7 last month, and it was $1060. The R3 i7 I just ordered was $1,118. So $58 more, I'm not complaining (same 8GB ram + bluetooth).
Maybe I could have gotten a better deal on the older version? I had applied 2 different coupons to it though.
Anyway, I didn't have time to get all that attached to my R2, so I'm excited about the newer version. If there are no more hinge issues, that alone makes it worth it to me.

i know for a fact the cpu in the r2 and r3 beat the hell outa the c2d. but i didnt get the m11x just to do anything amazing. just to play newer games at good fps. and the benchmarks i use show my R1 on top. compared to the stock r3. -
I just ordered the R2 a couple days ago with the I7-640um from dell for $999. The BIG question: Should I cancel my order and pay roughly $200 more for the R3? I can max it out and use that $350 coupon(i think).

for
1213 shipped (Including 10% CA tax) using the 350 off coupon. -
Scored one yesterday, been waiting forever. I got an i7, 4gb ram, 320gb hdd, Creative HD Sound, Bluetooth, Intel 6250 wireless card with WiMax, and 1 year accidental coverage for 1039.61 out the door (including 6.25% MA sales tax and shipping). SOOOOOO excited, been coveting this machine since it was an r1, but never had the funds and had an existing laptop for basic stuff so I could live without. Now that laptop has moved on and no more excuses since I just got paid.
-
So Alienware is using the new/fix hinges on the r3 right?
-
-
Really sad that they didn't really change the glossy LCD design.
It's really getting annoying and I think I will have to buy anti glare protector.. -
I just posted in another thread but probably should have posted on this one instead. For those of you that used the $350 coupon, you could also stack it with the $50 coupon for a $400 total in savings.
Just saying... -

Wow, this one may be worth considering. ~ $1200 (with tax and shipping) for a very well equipped machine. Stomps all over the R1 performance-wise too. Sell my current M11x for ~ $300 and that makes it a $900 delta. Hmmm. I spend too much money on my new 17" though.
Maybe in six months price will drop and consider it then.

Actually, a system configured like that would cost £928.99 at Dell. But, if used that Night Owl Offer (I think it was Saturday night), he would get £300 off any Alienware £899.99 and up. That would put him pretty close to what he is saying.
Unless you meant the EDD... -
Mine is showing Delivery Preparation on the My Account page, but still just showing In Production on the Order Detail page. My EDD shows 5/17, with 7 day delivery. Though if these ship from Tennessee it's not likely to take that long.
And another page is showing Ship Complete. I is so cornfused! -
