Hello everyone. I've been having this problem for a few months and Dell has refused to help me with it so I decided to see if anyone on here can help me out before I decide to do something rash like reinstall Windows 7.

Back in June I ran Windows Update and it tried to install an update for Microsoft Silverlight and it said it failed to update giving me error code 64C. When I tried to manually uninstall/reinstall Silverlight, I got the following message:

The feature you are trying to use is on a network resource that is unavailable.

Then the installer quits. But now the problem is also happening with my Zune software when it tries to update and Microsoft Security Client, which about a month ago began to give me messages upon startup that it could not be launched and if the problem persists it should be reinstalled giving me an error code 0x80070715.

Does anyone have any idea what might be going on here?

Mine used to do that same thing, I ignored it for a few months and then BOOM, all of the updates installed at once. Now all is well.

Really? You also were unable to uninstall/reinstall any of the effected programs either? Did you ever figure out the root of the problem?

Yeah it's really weird. Hopefully mine will resolve itself. I just want to reassure myself this isn't some sort of malware causing this.

If you search that error code online it gives you a bunch of fixes, none of them worked for me though...

I hate to start up this thread again, but I have managed to create a log of the install that occurred (and failed) for the Microsoft Silverlight update. Here are the two logs I have. Perhaps someone could quickly scan through and pinpoint the error that occurred? Thanks so much!

    Thanks for the responses.

    GNandGS:
Is there anything I can do to fix/replace/rebuild the values in the cache?

    jessecoffey:
Unfortunately I don't seem to have that key in my registry. Any other thoughts?

    I appreciate your help!

I haven't really studied your issue and not sure it would help if I did. There is a "windows update readiness tool" from MS that might help.

Yeah I tried that too and it simply downloaded a hotfix for Windows and that's it. Again I appreciate all your help.

I would like to tell everyone that I finally resolved this issue and I want to post it here in case others need help...it only took 4 months of googling stuff and clicking through endless links and fixes -_-

For Microsoft Silverlight, I obtained a fix which allowed me to finally update/uninstall/reinstall it from here:
How to manually clean up a broken Silverlight installation - Bob Pomeroy's Silverlight Blog - Site Home - MSDN Blogs

For Zune and MSE, I removed them using Windows Installer Clean Up. I have tried this before but I could never find it because Microsoft doesn't offer it for download anymore, however I found a version on majorgeeks.com:
    MajorGeeks.Com - Contacting Download Site

I removed the Zune software using it as well as Microsoft Antimalware and Microsoft Security Client. I then reinstalled both Zune and MSE with fresh downloads and now both work and can be updated/uninstalled, etc.

Thanks to everyone who took the time to read/respond to my posts on here!

+1 for coming back and updating. Google is probably already highlighting this topic in similar searches.
