I purchased an m11xR1 right after Black Friday when it was being discounted (the Core2Duo)

Now it has been a few months and my trackpad / spacebar / couple of keys have become smooth and shiny. It's like they are constantly oily I guess, but washing them does nothing. I assume this is the product of the keyboard wearing down?

I used to have a Sony laptop for a few years that eventually had the same thing happen to it, but it took longer than a couple of months I guess.

I didn't use my m11x a lot either, so I find it peculiar that it's already happening to this one. I just placed in order for an m14x, and I hope this doesn't happen to this as quickly.

I haven't found any problems with mine. Could be a whole bunch of things, including your environment (is it humid, dusty?) and your skin and how you type.

My god, wash your hands whenever you use keyboard and whenever you feel oily.
Keep reminding yourself to wipe the keyboard frequently.

I would like to say my hands aren't very oily. They actually are rather dry

Are you saying that you do not have sweat glands in your hands and that you do not release any form of substance from your hand?

Very oily, little oily, nearly dry, whatever. You have stuff on your hands and fingers. Wash them before using the keyboard and they will last longer.

It's not oil that makes them permanently shiny over time. It's the stippled texture on the surface wearing down. Cleaning the keys and keeping your hands oil-free will never prevent that.
