Have you ever had any experience with a 11.6" laptop? I don't feel the screen is too small for games or productivity, but everyone will have their own opinion. The best thing would be to find a store that has a laptop with a 11" screen and test it out to see if you feel comfortable with a screen that size.

The keyboard is fine for typing out long papers, etc.

I *DO* have an issue with gaming on the keyboard w/ FPS type games. If I use WASD for movement, and hold shift to run, my hand cramps up. My hands are too big for holding them like that.

For standard typing I could go all day on it. I play SC2 on it a decent amount, runs amazing, screen size is fine.

    Overall I love it.

Maximum PC | LG P330 Ultra-thin Notebook Breaks Cover - 13.3" if you want a little bit bigger screen, but not much larger of a PC.

They both have the same 1366x768 resolution so it is simply a matter of how it suits your particular eyes. It doesn't bother me on the M11x but is too small for others.

Of course when I had a Latitude C840 I ran it at 1600 x 1200 so I have always been comfortable with smaller characters and images.

Agree with Sequimite - screen size on its own is a bit misleading... resolution is also an important thing to consider. For example, I had recent experience of two machines at 1366x768, one on an 11.6" and the other a 15.6" screen - the bigger screen is apparently a new industry standard but everything looked too big to me. Especially as I also have a 15.6 gaming machine with 1650x1050ish and my previous machines have also included a 10.6" 1280x768 so I am used to high resolutions, though I have been lucky in having machines with good screens which does help.

I know you said you need a quick reply, but to me the screen is important and if you can, pop down to the local store and check out an equivalent screen, and keyboard. It won't be the same but should give you an idea of if you would find it usable - I find the smaller ones easier to user than the big keyboards personally, and struggle to go from my small one to the work monster laptop's one!

If google serves me right ;) , the 11.6 MBA is the same resolution so will be the same experience as the M11x - if you can handle that screen in terms of usability (quality might vary) then you'll be able to handle the AW. The keyboard will also give you a hint of how working on the AW would be like in terms of size and crampedness.

Personally hate the new fangled move into 16:10 screens as they lose too many vertical pixels for horizontal ones which makes them poor for documents, coding and so on. Stupid cinema screens... grrrrrr...

Same size screen and same max resolution so that should be very helpful.

It's 16:9 you hate. 16:10 was freaking awesome. But yeah, you're right. Freakin' lowest common denominator hard at work.

One thing about the MBA - you won't be gaming with it! One thing to keep in mind.

And yes, the m11x w/ the i5 will game totally fine.

I owned the m11x R1. Truthfully, the screen size is NOT bad at all. You will have to go through a bit of an adjustment period, but honestly I never experienced any eye strain or anything.

That said, ultimately I do prefer to use a 14inch+screen, even as an ultraportable, but the m11x definitely was NOT too small.

The touchpad and keyboard are all top notch, especially given the size limitations. I think you'd be quite happy with it.

The only thing bad about the display of the m11x is the quality, as it's currently one of the lowest quality displays on the market, especially in a premium system.

Sorry to disappoint you folks.......i decided not to go for the m11x and have decided to go with the HP ...lappy.........specs as below.........i know its not one of the so called gaming machines.......but seems like it has plenty of fire power and the best part is the 1080p screen ...........also all for a package around 1100$ :)

Huge difference between 11.6" and a 15.6" screen, frankly, I really like my M11xR1, it's excellent for working on the go, and even here at home, the battery life is excellent, the screen is excellent for working on the go, and it's not just word and excel thing.

I do heavy web developing, considering the size, it's ultra-mobile, the weight might be an issue for some, because it's way heavy for a note of that size.

You probally did the right choice in your case, a lot of people would have a problem working daily on a 11.6".

i know...if it had been my second machine........like if i had a desktop at home or something...............it wouldn't have been a difficult decision at all........but i guess.........my love for alienware made it more difficult then it had to be.

    Enjoy your new purchase!

I have always preferred smaller laptops - but that's because I usually have a desktop to back it up.

But it sounds like you'll have a fun machine to do what you need.

Yes you can. I believe you may need a bracket to support it, but you may want to confirm with HP first. I know for my G53, I had to get a bracket for my 320GB HD. If you're not sure how to remove/install, tech shops generally charge 40$/hr, so 20$ should get the job done.
