    Im going to buy an used m11x r2 and upgrade it instantly to 970m 6gb
    Roughly they cost 500usd both
    But I need to make sure that the GPU is compatible

    No you wont. The GPU and CPU are soldered onto the motherboard. Not an MXM laptop.

    It seems only m15x my best bet
    How about m17x r1?

    I would go with the m15 personally. I know the 970 and 980 works great in it. I had a 15x r2 with a 980.
