Afternoon guys.
I've recently acquired an Alienware m11X R3, I3, 540M 1GB one with a 128GB SSD.
For a small figure of £140 which I thought was a bargain.
Anyhow the CPU temperatures just seem to creep up and just remain at 70 Degrees I can go in and change the fan speed to 7000RPM to try and cool it down however it really doesn't do much.
I'm wondering if this is normal or do I need to take it apart blow the dust off and repaste with liquid ultra on both?![]()
If so with the paste job are these things easily to take apart?

No, those temps are not normal for the M11X. I would repaste and clean the fans, and fins for sure. To get to the heatsink, you basically have to dismantle the entire laptop. The good news is that it's really easy to do. Here's a teardown vid.
I would also recommend a different paste that will last longer than liquid ultra and will be easier to work with and non-conductive. I use AC MX-4 on mine. I have an R1 and idle temps are always in the low to mid 30s, and load temps never even approach 60C on either the CPU and GPU. The M11X has a very good cooling system for its size.Rengsey R. H. It's the cpu right?
It's an integrated gpu rather than external right?
So I'm only repasting one chip? right -

This post reminds me that I need to re-paste mine too. I recently acquired a top of the line m11x-r3 a few weeks ago.

You will need to repaste the CPU and GPU. The GPU is a separate chip with dedicated memory so it considered to be discrete, not integrated. Integrated would be your Intel graphics which the system also has and is also located on the CPU chip as a separate die. So basically you need to apply new paste to 3 different locations.

I see so more involved than I first thought
Kind Regards Ben -
Trust me it's not that hard to do. I can dismantle my R1 in around 10 minutes. It may sound complicated but it's not.

Liquid ultra lasts forever if applied correctly. Liquid pro had some drying out issues but Liquid Ultra has none of them. Been using on my M18x R2 for 2 years no drying out and its still liquid when I take the heatsink off.
