When i connect the HDMI to my Plasma screen. No matter what resolution i get i feel that the image is always a bit unclear and hard to read what is happening on the screen? I alsofind it much cleared when i put it on the baste 1366X768 than when i put it on the 1920X1080. It works perfectly on my 22inch LCD but not on the 50 inch plasma. It actually seems so much more clear when it is through VGA on my other Sony Vaio than on the M11x. Any help would be great.
is it also normal for the screen to not take up the entire plasma screen and instead have a black border?

The black border happens when you aren't using the screens aspect ratio. Being 1366x768 is a different ratio than 1920x1080. I personally prefer the black border because without it the image is very pixelated if it were to be stretched out. That could be why 1366 is clearer than 1920 though it should be just as clear if not clearer.

so what do you think i should do to make my image clear. Is it the Tv, the settings, like i am confused
-
I have no idea. I am no monitor expert. It could be the connection even.
Unfortunately I do not know the answer.

I guess you should check the ideal resolution of your TV? Check the manuals. Then try making a custom resolution in the Graphics Properties (after a right click on the desktop).

And this is why Monitors are a better choice when it comes to computing tasks.
For optimal usage, set the resolution of your computer to 1920x1080 & Use the HDMI cable. (Also set your TV to 1080P if you have the option or if it doesn't auto-detect)
Then, make sure you sit close to your TV.....but not too close as the huge pixel pitch of HDTVs will make it look like legos.
Also, you can try turning on/off the Cleartype font option. It's gonna be somewhere in the control panel under appearance and personalization. (I'm guessing you're talking about the text being hard to read. You weren't real specific when you mentioned "It's much more clear". If you weren't takling about text, then disregard this part)
Unless I'm watching a movie with other people, I much prefer using a nice 1920x1200 24"+ IPS monitor. Much better picture & clarity than your average HDTV. And if you sit close enough, it even has a wider FOV, taking up more of your peripheral vision.
TV size is irrelevant & I facepalm every time someone brags about how big their TV is. You're supposed to match the size of your TV to the viewing distance you will be sitting. Sitting close to a large monitor actually can have a much larger perceived size than a big huge HDTV sitting 10 ft away. When viewing an HDTV this far away, all the fonts & things that you'd normally see up close & comfortable on a monitor become a small blurry mess on the HDTV.
If I sound a little bit peeved, it's because I am(Not at anyone here, tho). I'm not happy with the way the market is trying to lump monitors & HDTVs into the same group. They're two different animals & thus deserve to be treated differently.
Alternatively, you can just use CTRL+scrolling your mouse wheel to zoom in on your Internet browser.
I guess, really, the first thing we need to know is what you mean by the word "clear".
Are you referring to just text? Or do you mean the whole picture? Is it stretched out? Pixelated? Simply blurry? What settings do you have your TV on? You gotta be a little more specific than "This TV/computer combo is more clear than this other one". -
This is often called underscan / overscan, depending on whether the image being displayed is too small / large to perfectly fit your HDTV. This is sometimes also called image scaling.
I would recommend you check the manual for your HDTV, and look for ways to adjust the image scaling on your HDTV. Different manufacturers all use different names for this... but the options you want to look for are things that affect image scaling (look for different setting options like Stretch, Wide, Normal, Zoom, Dot-by-Dot, etc). I'll bet if you find that setting and play around with it, your image will display properly. -
I use a Samsung 1080p LCD HDTV as a monitor sometimes, and it works great, but you need to change the settings in both displays, don´t expect to just plug the HDMI and is done...
After a little setup settings, I now can just plug the HDMI cable, the laptop screen goes to black and it shows up as 1920x1080 in the HDTV, if I unplugg the cable, the laptop screen turns on at 1366x768...
And yes, the black borders are mostly the tv settings, check the setting in the TV, is should have an auto detect resolution, mine was like that, black borders, and after some changes, it was done, you need also to use the intel settings... -
That "Black border" that you've described indicates to me that there is a resolution problem, probably on your M11x. That black border means that the laptop is using an algorithim to maintain the aspect ratio of your resolution to make it look as un-stretchy and distorted. If you are using a resolution that is compatible with your TV, you should not see a black border because the content on your laptop will be perfectly scaled up to the screen area of your TV.
First off, you need to go into your intel graphics settings and make sure you are not using "clone display" and that the TV is set to your primary display. Once you've done that, you should see resolutions that your TV supports... (like 1920x1080, 1920x1200, etc) ... switch to that higher resolution, and it should scale everything to the entire screenspace of your TV.
I've tested this with my Alienware M11x R2 and my 40'' LCD TV via HDMI at home. It works dude, you just gotta tweak settings until you find what works.
