Howdy guys,
I am in the process of buying this laptop (it looks absolutely brilliant), but have read that how good it plays games does greatly depend on the RAM, Processors, etc. that you choose for it.
Amazon UK is the cheapest I can get it over here in the UK:
http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B004R9PZ32/ref=pd_lpo_k2_dp_sr_1?pf_rd_p=103612307&pf_rd_s=lpo-top-stripe&pf_rd_t=201&pf_rd_i=B003X27HN0&pf_rd_m=A3P5ROKL5A1OLE&pf_rd_r=1B8EJNW63TVPC0XC45YT
How good is this particular model - specifically to play WoW? Obviously, this model has 4GB RAM (compared to either 2GB or 8GB), 1.3GHz, and 320GB HDD.
Cheers,
Jacko.

That machine is £450 at Dell.co.uk, just a heads up.
edit:- Should run WoW fine but not with all of the graphical settings maxed out for raiding I would have thought, happy to be proven wrong though.
Plenty of youtube footage of this laptop, just check them for the M11x r1 model.
edit 2:- I think the £450 model has 2GB of ram, actually. I'm sure you could upgrade it for less than £50 yourself though! -
Yeah, the £450 model is 2GB RAM, while 4GB RAM is £520 on Dell. Meh, I'll just pay the extra £50 instead of upgrading, I'm not too fussed. Thanks though ^_^.
And yeah, I'll check out some YouTube footage. The only reason I asked is because most YouTube videos don't specify whether they have an R1, 2 or 3 - and if they do, they don't specify RAM, etc. -

I have the R1, received a month ago, same spec as the Dell UK link above. Performance is great for my needs. For what its worth, I've been playing Dawn of War 2 & expansions recently on medium settings in native resolution, and it works great. WOW should run on max.
Just remember to enable the overclock in the BIOS (it's a factory OC so covered by warranty) and ensure you're running the Nvidia card (manual switch, fn+F6)
Battery life is great too (6-7 hours, or 2-4 gaming), and it runs cool - 40-45 degrees for the processor and 60-65 for the GPU.
Also try buying it via Quidco or Topcashback - you'll get 10% back I think - that's what I did. -
That link shows some L4D2 game footage on the M11x r1 and it plays fine, given that Team Fortress 2 belongs to the same game engine... well I'll let you work out the rest!
Also: Little bonus for you, GB?G1J8C628M39
That product code gives 10% off on all Dell M11x models, so apply that to the £450 version and get the RAM for cheaper off of Amazon yourself! -
Thanks everyone, I'm certain to be going with this model then!
And thanks very much for that coupon code, Moriarty!

here u go jacko, moriarty has sort u out with a 10% discount. give him +rep
i have done it
u gotta love this forum with so many helpful people
-
out of curiousity, how do u get em. only vouchers i get from dell is for inspiron and xps in my email, hardly any alienware. -
No idea what Dell are like promoting their Alienware products abroad (in the US or elsewhere) but here in the UK they are notoriously hush-hush about advertising vouchers and deals even though they do actually go to the trouble of developing them in the first place, regardless, I just snoop about the interwebs and do a bit of investigating before taking the plunge on these sort of devices.
For reference though, a nice website I've found that's updated daily (when deals are posted, which isn't often at all for the Alienware section) is the follwing:-
Dell Special Offers, Cheapest Deals, E-Value Codes and Discount Coupons | dmXdimension
The forums seem practically dead but the codes are updated daily from what I can tell, given how responsive they are to changes on Dell's website anyways.
Until recently, other vouchers for machines like the Inspiron and XPS's worked on the Alienware models too but Dell seem to have fixed that, for now... ¬_¬
I'm sure there are other sources but this is the best I've found.
Hope it helps, thanks for the rep! -
