What anti virus programs are you guys using? My M11x arrives today and I am uncertain that McAfee is the best option. I would like something that is not resource heavy.Thanks.

ps I tried searching for this topic but to no avail. Sorry if this is a re-post

Mcafee blows imo. Just get free ones like avg that doesnt kill your system's memory.

MacAfee is complete garbage. Windows Security Essentials or bust.

    That's a joke, right?

Windows Security Essentials by far. First and only antivirus I have ever had that I can't even tell is running in the background. ;)

    Plus its free!!!

I have McAfee from an extra family license my dad got. Figured I'd use it on my laptop since he just has his one desktop. I've had no problems with it.

MSE or Avast. Both have minimal impact and great detection rates.

    heh.

MSE for me! I didnt like in on some older systems but the recent new systems we deployed (win7) seem to work very well. Was a big fan of AVG for a long time and not much bad to say about avast either.

    Norton. Snort!

Nod32 for me. In a former life I was an ESET partner and I absolutely trust them when it comes to keeping up and dealing with threats that change by the hour. They have consistently been very well rated by established and reliable 3rd party testing. Their heuristics are top tier. It also happens to be light on resources.

A lot of people here seem to be focused how an AV product impacts system performance. That's fine I suppose, but in my opinion it should not be the top attribute to consider when choosing one product over another. 2nd or 3rd on the list for sure.

A lot comes down to the user behavior too. I bet many reading could go a long time without AV just using it to maybe manually scan items. For them "light" is good!
