Saw this on Dell's website:
A2G Anti-Glare Screen Protector for Alienware M11x Netbook Computer : Monitors: Flat Panel and Widescreen | Dell
Its designed for the M11x and should cover the screen and the bezel around it. Seems a bit pricey though for $30. Wondering if anyone got it and if it is any good.
-
-
seems only sold at dell.
-
If it works, I will gladly pay $30 for it.
-
wow, they give it a very glossy screen and then sell u a 30 dollar accessory to remedy it.... ok im buying if it works
-
Interesting... if they had released this earlier I may have been more tempted to buy the m11x! But if this does significantly help the glossiness then I may purchase a future m11x for my gf
-
Wrong Thread..... -_-
-
it's made by green onions which sells their other size screen protectors at frys. wait a few weeks and we should be able to pick this up at frys for like $15 lol.
-
I did a search for the model # RT-SPM11X02 and came up with quite a few links from other stores, seeing $23 but ya gotta figure in shipping. good find himynameisjesh
-
looks like it won't be in stock at most places until 1 or 2 more weeks. i'll wait until then and order it with the sleeve since my crappy one that came with the laptop is about to rip apart after 3 weeks.
-
Nice find !
But just like the official sleeve, it doesn't exist over here in the UK -
Nothing compare to those, try to contact them for this. -
I bought one of these and it arrived today. Putting it on was pretty easy, but it took me a while to clean my screen and to make sure everything was dust free. So Yeah, I'm OCD like that.
So here's my take on it. It reduces the glare just slightly by diffusing the light at the cost of making it slightly grainy. Compared to my matte work laptop, this grain makes the screen look a bit fuzzy. And its also still a lot more reflective than my matte laptop.
Overall, i'm a bit disappointed with it considering that its about 30 bucks shipped. I think for the money, i would expecting better performance.
The only plus side is that it fits the bezel really well and I have some peace of mind that my screen is protected (at least until I find a better replacement)

Thanks for the great pics. I have been debating about the m11x because of the glare issue and really wanted to see the Green Onion in action. Much props.
-
Mine came in a LARGE Fedex box today - could have fit 25 of them in this box, but oh well. Installation was a snap - using a credit card to smooth out the bubbles made it a breeze. All in all, my experience is pretty similar to Wheresmystuff and his great pictures. You trade glare for some graininess.
For me personally, I can deal with the graininess more than the mirror like reflection before. It's not as good as a true matte screen, but it's an improvement IMO.
The nicest thing for me is that I no longer get oil/sweat marks from my keyboard on my screen. Before, every time I opened my screen I had to wipe off vertical lines that were transferred from the keyboard. I'm sure they are still there, but it's not distracting with the screen protector. -
this sounds like a good option to protect the screen especially since many people seem to be having an issue with the keyboard contacting the screen and potentially scratching it
-
Thanks for the link
I just ordered one. The screen protector looks great and seems to be a perfect fit.
-
Hey guys, will this help with the eyes?
Because recently, my eyes have been hurting a lot more.
So I believe it is because of A. Small screen size(doubt it) or B. The glare. -
Only available in US
-
i took off my protector off after a week because it started becoming difficult to read fonts when the background was white, and it gave me headaches -
So basically, the screen protector won't help with eye strain?
Crap...I really don't wanna send my M11x back just because of the screen size! -
the green onions protector will make the eyestrain worse. i want to take mine off but i bought it mainly to protect the screen, not for the anti-glare. i'm pondering trying the 3 different brands on ebay (not all are anti-glare) but i know i'm going to spend money on ones that i probably won't end up liking.
-
It shipped yesterday. I'll let you know how it is once it arrives. -
omg i ordered the same one last night lol. i think i figured it out though, any of the anti-glare screen protectors adds grain to the screen. i didn't know this before so i'm trying not to clog up this thread. it's just part of the design they have to use in order to diffuse the light glare. one of the vendors on fleabay confirmed this.
i think any of the regular crystal ones are grain-free so i ordered the exim cus it's the most high quality looking one on fleabay. i was also looking at the kai brand one. -
When I'd finished installing mine, there was lots and lots of grain on the screen ... until I realised there was a pull-off layer on the front -
-
you're supposed to leave it on. it's a screen protector for the screen protector
-
-
-
-
(Mine is the SPUC model, so it doesn't reduce glare) -
-
There is a loss of quality, but I take that over not being able to work at all. -
This is a gaming rig, not a productivity rig... anything that results in a loss of image quality is diminishing one of the main purposes of this machine.

I spend alot of time in front of a computer screen and one of my biggest problems is eye strain. When I got the Green Onions anti glare screen protector, I was very annoyed at first because there was a definite texture. However, you get used to it if you're doing other things like reading, typing or gaming.
What I couldn't handle about the M11x initially was the reflectiveness of the screen. Unless you're in a close to completely dark room, there are reflections galore. Not only does it act like a mirror, it acts like a double mirror which is extremely distracting because your eyes are constantly trying to adjust its focus, resulting in eye strain.
Green Onion effectively eliminates that, and I don't spend my time focusing on the grain. In fact, after the first two days I stopped noticing the grain until I actually began thinking about it because I'm typing this to the thread.
If you want to reduce eyestrain, I suggest you adjust dpi to 116%, (the maximum dpi to get 6 rows of icons on your desk) and each web page you visit adjust the page with Ctrl + until you reach a font size (usually 125%) that is comfortable for your eyes. Squinting at small fonts is what is really going to give you eye strain.
Cheers! -
Really now -
-
the screen protector was such a hassle i removed it. i originally put it on and it have a few bubbles so i peeled it back to fix it. then some dust got underneath it so i removed it to fix that, then more dust and fingerprints so i decided to remove it entirely
-
someone post a picture of the SPUC protector on their M11x!
-
I don't have a camera, but mine finally arrived today, and I put it on minutes ago. The first thing I noticed is it doesn't cover everything. I expected it to cover the whole glossy section of the screen (i.e., side to side and below the lighted up alienware logo to above the webcam), but it just covers the display. I suppose that's all that really needs protecting, but if you're thinking about buying one, realize that is the case. It doesn't drop the screen quality as far as I can tell. It was pretty easy to put on, and supposedly you can take it off, wash it, and put it back on as necessary, so that's nice.
-
What brand?
-
the spuc one everyone is talking about
I spoke too soon, though. I decided to try washing it to get rid of a couple air bubbles that were the result of dust, and that made it useless. If you leave it alone to dry, the water leaves marks that you need to get rid of somehow. On the outer side, you can wipe them off once it's installed, but obviously you can't do that on the inner side once installed, and if you try beforehand, dust gets stuck on it.
I threw it away. I'm fortunate enough the keyboard doesn't leave marks on my screen, so I guess I'll go without a protector unless a good one is found. -

1. The whole point of installing an anti-glare cover is to reduce the huge loss of image quality caused by the glossy screen ! People are trying to make the screen better...
2. Your post reads like "image quality" is of more importance for gaming than productivity - but clearly the opposite is true -
-
for me the ability to play games can make it a "psuedo-productivity" machine lol!
Must finish work... Play the games.... lol -

30 bucks is a tad steep plus they are out of stock at many places. I don't really care about glare as I will be using my mx11 in dark environments but i would like to protect the screen from scratches..what about this? I realize it is Meritline and it is 3 dollars but is it worth a try? It says it won't leave a residue as it is static cling, I'm just scared it might melt to the screen since lappies get hot when you game. Tell me what you guys think:
http://www.meritline.com/laptop-screen-protector---p-36962.aspx
eh, nvm, upon closer inspection this thing would not actually cover the entire edge to edge piece of glass. When I get my Mx11 I will measure the screen to see the exact dimensions from edge to edge. -
I finally got my A2G Green Onions M11x Screen Protector and decided to put it on. I made a sheet of tape to remove dust from the protector and used the cloth it came with to wipe the screen down. Turned on the shower to hot and let it steam up before starting.
I honestly don't see any quality difference that people posted. Sure it's SLIGHTLY (by caps I mean very slightly) more blurry to the point where I wouldn't notice it was blurry if I didn't see it without the protector. It's thin enough to where the screen can still fully close, also fortunately my M11x isn't one of those that leaves keyboard residue and it still doesn't.
Anyway I tried to make the same camera angles when I took pictures. They might be slightly off I tried to line up the chair as best as I could.
