Currently have Mcafee 1 year installed, and also have access to Avast! Internet Security Full paid version. I will be installing Malwarebytes anti-malware and Super anti-spyware later, however those two(MWBAM and SAS) will only be run during emergencies and will just be 'installed' on the computer in case I need them.

I'm wondering, would it be worth it to switch to Avast! over Mcafee? Because I'm looking for ways to increase performance of my computer without overclocking and stuff. Also, I was wondering if I were to run a game(ie WoW), will I experience better performance(maybe less lag) by using Avast over Mcafee?

Thanks for your time, PS what are other ways I can make my m11x faster? I just recently got it about 11 days ago.

MSE and Avast! are both free and both have a very small memory footprint (Avast! is slightly smaller but they're both so small I wouldn't go with it over MSE for that reason alone), so if performance is what you're looking for, I'd go with one of those.

McAfee is awful. The free version of Avast works fine, why did you pay for it?

Also, MBAM is good to have but you don't need to regularly run it. I'd advise putting on Spybot S&D as well for the passive protection.

I got rid of McAfee as quickly as possible and installed the free version of Avast. It's awesome and I highly recommend it!

I have also tried Microsoft Security Essentials and it is very good but I still find Avast that little bit better.

I second this - and I normally hate Microsoft, but we have put MSE on every computer in our house.

I have Avast Internet Security on my m11x and its great, you don't even notice it working in background, and if you put it in silent/gaming mode permanently it's perfect.
EDIT: Oh and to all the people suggesting MSE, yes it's a great small antivirus, but he said he has access to AIS, a paid antivirus with many more features.

I'm using Avira AntiVir at the moment.

I see with a lot of new Dell purchases you get 15months of McAfee with your purchase. That sucks as you're paying for something that's first on the list to be removed.

I can see myself having words with Dell about that! :D

I am a long time Avast user that just switched to Microsoft Security Essentials for the hell of it. Both are really good programs that do their job. Don't ever pay for Anti Virus.

Okay, I want to do a trial on Nod32 and Vipre antivirus, and was wondering which would run less resources, and have the least impact on gaming(WoW or etc.)

Which one uses the least amount of resources? Which one is better during gaming sessions? Nod32 or Vipre?

Also, was wondering if I should go Nod32 on m11x, Vipre on HP, inversed(nod on hp, vipre on m11), or both vipre or nod on the computers? Mainly seeking the top performance on the m11 btw. Tried researching on nod32 vs vipre and am getting no results... (I just want the fastest performance on the m11)

I have the Zonealarm Extreme Security Suite and it works perfectly on the M11x. I install it on every pc that i buy, i would deffinitely recommend trying it.

I'm currently using AVG free. MSE somehow kept my m11x from hibernating properly. I use the hibernate a lot in school.

I used AVG on my old computer, it was horrible, I switched to avast free a few months ago and now I have Avast internet security, but the free version of avast is still excellent, and anything is better than AVG

AVG stopped being good once it moved to 8.0. That was a sad day when my 7.5 was finally outdated.
