I highly doubt anything new will be arriving on the m11x front as the r2 is pretty much the best you can get in this form factor. Aside from a GPU update which is speculated as 425m or 435m. I am however intrigued to hear news if there is any news. Personally Id love to see an ATI variant, but in all honesty Im waiting for the 2012 version that may have an ULV quad core.

    Nope.
Maybe during E3. I'll gladly sell my laptop fr an R3 if the performance jump is that great.

Check out the shot that shows the i330UM processor option... looks slated to replace the SU7300 R1, giving a clean i-based liineup.

Thankfully Dellienware didn't loose its mind and try to have a dual-M11x hotwired 3d option or some crap like that...

In some ways I'm relieved there's no new announcement. Because if the specs were sweet enough, I probably would've upgraded. But it's only now, 6-7 months after purchase that it feels like this thing is finally coming together with the Optimus fix, etc..

And I for one, kinda would like to feel like I got some real play time on my R2 and use out of it before I just ditch it for the upgrade.

So, Summer E3 does sound like a good time for an announcement, but who knows?

    ^^ True.

I see DavyGT has mod'd the M11xR1 chip and is now getting 2.07Ghz.
RigelKent, Nautis and others have created Nvidia Hybrid driver sets for the M11xR1.

It'd be rude not to savour these accomplishments for a little while longer.

In NZ, the Intel® Core™ i3-330UM processor (3M Cache, 1.2 GHz) has been available since the M11xR2 was released and the M11xR1 SU7300 was removed from sale.

Just hope r3'll be announced at E3 in June with significant improvement. ;)
This CES is kinda boring. Everything is about either tablets or SnB or Nvidia's new ambition.

A user posted a picture of a card at CES next to the M11x demo model that mentioned a Core i3, indicating that the SU7300 will be replaced by a Core i3. I wonder if it would really be worth returning my discounted R1 system to get the Core i3.

M11x R3 = had no chance of being announced at all at CES.

Intel wasn't gonna release any SB ULV cpus at CES - therefore, no M11xR3 till Spring at earliest.

I am almost positive that at least an R3 will appear with SB then, I am sure NBR will know about it months ahead...

I will have an R2 to sell then for a good price to some lucky fellow NBR member...!

Docsteel, where did you buy your M11x? Mine was supposed to come with 1066MHz RAM, but the RAM was only 800MHz. I'm okay with that since the system was discounted, but still curious.

Your RAM very likely is 1066MHz. 800MHz is a limitation of the UM chips we have.

SB ULV ships in February. And a couple of manufacturers accounced notebooks using them at CES (ie/Sammy). SB was never the key component for a new m11x anyway - it needs a GPU refresh as well (and the 5xx series may not actually fit the bill either). I don't expect an R3 announcement until E3 or later (and will put money on an CES 2012 announcement with 4-core Ivy Bridge).

As I understand it the DavyGT mod involved cutting a pinout from a voltage regulator to the CPU? I checked through the thread and this sounds non-trivial if you don't do the sort of thing and have the equipment ... have you done it, or is there some kind of soft mod I missed?

A full year and half between releases? Seems like a long time...

Just as long as the TME pin is connected to ground, it will work, either through cutting or soldering.
I merely tested Nando4's suggestion that cutting the TME pin would work, which it did, on my Aspire One.

The softmod for the ICS 355 does not work on the M11x's ICS 387 PLL.

I think it will come down to how well the GT525M performs. If it outpaces the 335, then a SB+525 refresh is logical - and it would make sense to announce at E3 (or earlier). If 525 isn't that great, then other new features like USB3.0, bigger screen, form factor redesign, etc, might make a refresh worthwhile even is there's no great leap in performance. Of course AMD could pull out a surprise at E3 as well.

the picture that engadget snagged wasn't of an i3-330UM. It was of an i3-380UM, which is not available in any market.
