I did not realize that Sims 2 requires Directx 9 to run and my M11X R1 with Windows 7 comes with Directx 11. When I try to launch the game, I keep getting this error message:

"Failed to find any DirectX 9.0c compatible graphics adapters in this system! Please make sure you have a direct X9.0c compatible graphics adapter and have installed the latest drivers provided by the manufacturer. The application will now terminate."

Same error message when I tried to run the game under Windows XP compatibility mode. I tried googling for a solution but have come up empty so far. Can anyone help? There's got to be a way to work around this, right?

Alternatively, does Sims 3 run on the stock M11X R1? If so, I may consider getting that instead but I really would prefer to keep Sims 2 as I already have all the expansion packs.

Do you have an R1 or R2? The game is probably not detecting the nvidia gpu. If you have an R1, you need to turn on discreet, if you have an R2, you need to whitelist the game (and possibly play with other settings, like right-clicking on exe and selecting "run with graphics processors > high performance nvidia". DX9 games will work fine as they're all backwards compatible.

Edit: having said that, there's no reason why it shouldn't run on the intel chip.

I have an R1. Have tried launching the game with both the discreet and integrated graphics and still got the same error message.

Will try right-clicking and fiddling with the settings when I get home--thanks for the suggestion.

Has anyone here actually gotten Sims 2 to work on their R1 or R2 with Windows 7?

Try updating the sims game manually.

I had to install the directx9 DLLs from the microsoft directx web installer/updater package. This *might* be the link, but check it out and see if it's what you need. The package I used would install any version of directx and perform any updates available to it via the web.

Download details: DirectX End-User Runtime Web Installer

Thanks flanders! I tried doing that last night but it wouldn't let me because it said my computer has the newer version.

Unless you mean you manually added the directx9 DLLs to your system folders? If so, which folder should I be putting them in and what exact DLLs do I need?

I believe you just run the web installer and it will replace any missing DLLs on your machine with the latest, including directx 9. That's all I did to get them.

You got this ALL wrong, the GT335M doesn't support DX11, but it does support DX9 and DX10. Have you switched your Hybrid graphics? The Sims 2 isn't detecting your nVidia GPU. I have the torrent version, if you installed the game when you had your intel integrated graphics driver on,you have to change the Config, so reinstall the game, with your nVdia GT335M GPU driver ON. I got the same problem as you, so easier if I was standing next to you. Sorry for the bad explanation. +rep me if what I said worked. 100% it will.

Alien, it worked! I uninstalled the game, made sure my Nvidia card was ON, and reinstalled the game. Thanks so much--I repped you.
