and yes, I am talking about HDMI, NOT configuring my 3 analog ports to act as a 5.1 system.

I've read a few other forum posts where others have gotten 5.1 out of their HDMI ports using a HDMI reciever or really good tv that tells the laptop that it can receive 5.1. In my case I always use my 32" Low-end 1080p samsung that tells my m11x that it's only stereo.

Does anyone know of a good cheap receiver or pseudo-receiver thing that can extract/tell the laptop's HDMI port that 5.1 is an option?

So far i've come across receivers being $200~ cheapest or the Monoprice HDMI switcher which can extract the audio and output into toslink but I don't know if this option means 5.1...

My ultimate goal is to have my PS3, Xbox360, and M11x all input into a device that'll output the audio into toslink and output the video to my tv.

any input or suggestions (that are not using the analog ports) appreciated.
