I am actually interested in trying out WiMAX internally with my M11x. I read in another forum how someone mentioned that they installed a half height Intel 5150 WiFI/WiMAX card and got it working. They then disappeared with no updates and such on the matter.

I am just curious if anyone else has tried this with either the Intel 5150 or 6250 half height cards. Also if anyone knows of a reliable distributor for either. Hard to tell what is not an engineering sample and sometimes they do not specify when it's a seller from China.

I'm reviving this as my question is the same. Anyone have and use a WiMAX card? I know its use is subject to WiMAX availability in one's area. I'm just not sure if it's something that would be a decent long-term bet, or if I should just use my cell phone to tether as needed.

I have a wimax usb adapter from my employer. When connected with low signal strength, it is I'd say about 300k a second. Full signal strength gets me 12mbps easily.

I ordered the R3 to have a wimax card in it. It wasn't much more money, and I'm hoping I can find a decent monthly plan to make use of it.

I would think that either Clear or Sprint (which is pretty much Clear) would be a good provider for it

I think Clear may be the only provider for it.

I don't think Sprint will activate a device that wasn't sold explicitly from them, for their network.

Kind of irrelevant since sprint owns Clear I believe but ok lol

They are the only WiMax providers that I know of

Sprint owns Clear, but they are kept as separate entities.

Clear is its own company still, Sprint just owns the majority share of its stock.

They are completely separate companies on the books, and unfortunately act that way when it comes to devices/networks.
